    An Elegant Touch of Vintage

An oldie but a goodie here…I’m under the wire today so I’m recycling a post back from 2015 that I thought was fun.  The vintage shabby chic look is not my style anymore, but I thought all of these photos were examples of great design.  Enjoy!

Adding a simple elegant touch to your decor, using vintage items, may not seem as easy as it sounds. Here are some great pictures to help you get inspired:

It can be as simple as adding an older piece to your current home decor, or mixing great finds together to create a room filled with a vintage feel.

Don’t feel rushed to find the perfect pieces, sometimes it takes a lot of shopping around, thrift stores, and flea markets to find that perfect one.
Mixing modern with vintage may be more of what you are looking for.
The fun thing about a vintage touch, is it is completely up to you! Add a few pieces, or make it a whole room of vintage decor.

  • Living with Less

    Living with Less

As most of you know, clutter can make your overall home decor design seem a little off. If you feel like the amount of things in your home are not showing the true value of the design that you want in your home, maybe it’s time to live with less.
Decluttering can be a huge task that seems quite overwhelming, especially for those who have a hard time letting things go. My suggestion for those who are struggling is to do one room! It’s amazing how one room can boost your motivation and really show you what decluttering can do.
First, start with a plan! What is your style, your color scheme, and your purpose for the room. Now take everything out of the room. If you need to paint or do any big changes, now is the time. Once the room is exactly how you want it empty, add one piece at a time.

Just because you want a simpler room, doesn’t mean it can’t be fun! Make sure you add your personality in it, but do it in a way that doesn’t involve a lot of small pieces that will need to be cleaned, dusted, moved, and rearranged later.

You might be surprised when you feel like the room is complete, how many pieces you have left! Here’s the decision you’ll have to make. Either get rid of everything you didn’t put back in the room, or go through it and decide what to keep and what to throw or give away. But whatever you do – don’t put it back in the room you just finished!
For rooms that require a lot more things to be kept. Consider closed storage with drawers and cabinets that you can’t see through. It will create that sense of less clutter while maintaining the items you need to live.
Do you think you can live with less?

    Office Inspiration

At times we can get carried away with what we want in our home office. Whether it’s tons of storage or inspiring photo’s all over the wall, it can get a little overwhelming. A simple office space leaves your mind clutter free and ready to create a new masterpiece.

If you are a naturally creative person, you know that most times you don’t need much to be inspired! Sometimes it’s the blank wall that makes our mind imagine what should be there so we can create it.

Maybe the room itself doesn’t even matter. Maybe your view outside the window is what you need to get your brain moving.
Stick to the basic necessities. A chair, a table, a plant, a light, and a calendar may be all you really need.

Some times we all need a little inspiration – and for me, that couldn’t be more true. I’ve been feeling particularly unmotivated and I can’t really put my finger on why.  When the weather is beautiful all I want to do is be outside, so that’s understandable, but otherwise, I’m not sure where my malaise is coming from.
Hopefully you’re not in the same boat, but regardless I hope you enjoy these beautiful home offices!

    Functional over frills.

When you talking about home decor some would assume that it’s more about the fun of decorating than the functionality. That is where I disagree. Decorating isn’t all about the frills, its about function too.
     :
There’s no point in spending money on a room just to decorate it without considering how it’s going to function and if it’s going to need the need of the person using the space.

When a room gets overwhelming to me, the first thing I do is take a few things out. Sometimes simply clearing the space can refresh me.
That can happen with more than just decor items. Sometimes colors and textures can be overwhelming too and just taking one piece out can help you find that balance.
