    Small space organizing tips

My plans to completely organize my home, nay, my entire property from top to bottom this year is still in the works, just going much slower than I hoped.  I’m blaming it on my 4 month old and 2 year old son.  And my day job.  Once thing I am doing to try to continue to keep the ball rolling is researching ideas.  Below are some great ideas I found:

How amazing is this craft station?  Created from what looks like two ikea shelves.

How GORGEOUS is this pantry??  Unfortunately I only have a lazy susan cabinet as a pantry – but this is definitely what I would strive for in a pantry.

Under the sink is usually a lot of wasted organization opportunity, bus this shelving system really makes the most of it.

  • Why LED Lighting is Soon to Become the Norm for Indoor and Outdoor Use

Why LED Lighting is Soon to Become the Norm for Indoor and Outdoor Use

A lot of people have already started upgrading their homes and businesses to using LED lighting rather than old, incandescent bulbs or compact fluorescent lighting (CFL). While the early adopters of home LED have already seen the benefits in terms of dramatically reduced energy costs, the upfront costs of the bulbs used to make the switch a fairly big commitment for your whole home and all of your outdoor lights.

LED Bulbs Are Now More Affordable

Now, however, thanks to advances in manufacturing technology and processes and market demand for more cost-effective, greener bulbs, LEDs have come down dramatically in price, meaning that switching to LED has become an option for just about everyone. With so many benefits, it is no surprise that uptake is growing hugely, especially as most people don’t even need to change their light fittings to install LED bulbs.

LED has made Compact Fluorescent Lights Redundant

In fact, such is the superiority of LED that General Electric recently announced they were going to cease production of CFL lights. CFL lights never really won the hearts of consumers despite saving energy compared to incandescent bulbs. People felt they looked unappealing, gave an inferior lighting effect compared to incandescents, and they also took a while to light up. LED offers no such problems and, in fact, offers just about any lighting effect you want – colored lights, warm and cool tones of white light, and any brightness from interior mood lighting to outdoor floodlights.

    LED and the Future

The advantages of LED bulbs apply to just about every home or workplace in the world. They last for tens of years, they use 85-90% less electricity to give the same lighting as compared to conventional bulbs, and they give you so many more options in terms of the effects you want to create, whether you want color changing LEDs in your shower or outdoor security lights. They can be made in all kinds of different shapes and styles, and have become the best friends of interior and landscape designers, making whole new looks possible and inexpensive.

With more companies like https://www.voltlighting.com/ offering LED products at remarkably low prices compared to just a few years ago, it is very likely that the huge upward trend in uptake is going to continue, and within just a few years, LED will have completely taken over as the standard way of lighting homes, public spaces, and business premises.

This is good news in terms of carbon emissions. It will also mean reduced energy costs across the board, allowing businesses to reduce overheads and households to save a considerable amount of money over the year.

While light bulb technology may not be the most glamorous shift in how we use tech in the 2010s, it is certainly an interesting one. It’s also one that will bring a lot of benefits to a lot of people. If you don’t already use LED in your home, it may be a good time to get on board!

    Pantry Inspiration: beautifully organized pantries

    Pantry Inspiration

A beautifully outfitted and organized pantry is something every busy man, woman, and/or child should have. Ample shelves, bins, and drawers are a must.  Ours, unfortunately, leaves a lot to be desired. Our pantry is a lower corner cabinet with a lazy susan. Crouching down to find things can be a hassle, especially at 7 months pregnant.  Below I’ve found pantry inspiration examples of what I would build if I had free reign to create my dream pantry.

Wowsa.  Space for small appliances, cookbooks, everything within a glance.  I would be happy here. Very happy.

More canister inspiration.  I do have a lot of my dry goods in glass canisters, but they have to live on the counter for lack of cabinet space.

This pantry is a stunner – simply put.  Looks like it’s dedicated purely to small kitchen appliances…

Not really a pantry but I thought this open cabinet display was too pretty to leave out.

Super love this.  This pantry is designed to look more like a gourmet grocer than a space in someone’s home, and you get to show off your pretty cookbooks.

  • Fresh home office inspiration

    Fresh home office inspiration

I’ve been kicked out of my home office since my husband started working from home two days a week. I love having him at home, but working from the dining room table has lost it’s novelty.  I figured getting some inspiration by finding some home offices that are beautiful and functional would help motivate me to move back into my office.

For me, I need a crisp, well-organized space in order to focus and get started on the project at hand.  It looks like the curtains can close and hide the shelves if needed.

An office in the pantry!  For a chef or food blogger this is genius!  It would be dangerous for me to work so close to food.A nice view is really important to me too!

Whether decorative or utilitarian, storage is important no matter what you do.If you’re a creative type, objects you find beautiful are really important to have around your workspace.  For me, flowers are always inspiring.

Crisp and minimal is a great place to start if you tend to have trouble getting into the “zone”
