A refreshing change for bedroom design

I’ve noticed a lot of bedrooms these days where the bed is placed directly under the window.  What do you think of this look?
Solid neutrals mixed with patterned accents and shapely antique nightstands make the perfect case for how wonderful mixing and matching can be.:

Is it just the placement of the room and where the window’s fall or is there actually something to it that I don’t know?

Did you know it was actually bad Feng Shui to put your bed under a window? It’s said that at night, your body needs protection and strong support to do it’s best regeneration. But what do homeowners with beds under there window have to say about it?
Some say it’s the only way to balance out the room. Given the size or shape of their room, it’s the only place the bed fits.
Other’s say it’s refreshing to wake up with natural light shinning on them. It seems to me, like that would be a lovely alarm clock!

    Modern Curtains

We all know the impact that window treatments can make in a room.  That being said, you want to make sure the impact is a positive one, and doesn’t take away from the design and aesthetic of your home.  Modern curtains are widely available these days, so finding a solution that beautifully sets off your interior architecture and decor shouldn’t be a problem.  The problem will likely be narrowing down your selection!  With the internet, even high end curtains can be affordable!

Love color?  Keep your foundations (wall color, etc.) neutral, and use curtains, pillows, artwork, and smaller accessories to add pops of your favorite color.  I love the unexpected use of a green curtain panel in this soft pink bedroom.

    More Ideas

Since I love white interiors and natural elements, I adore floor to ceiling white curtains like these.  They lend a sense of unpretentious elegance.  All of the architectural elements are allowed to take center stage because the curtains aren’t overshadowing them.  The black curtain rods help tie in the dark wood beams on the ceiling.

A child’s room or nursery is a place where you can let your hair down a little and really have fun with pattern or color. I absolutely adore these machine embroidered design panels with stars and a cityscape at the base. So cute!

You can also make curtains the focal point in a neutral interior if there is a pattern or color palette that you absolutely love but maybe weren’t able to bring in via wallpaper or a rug.  These roman shades really pop and add life to this elegant but otherwise quiet kitchen. Roman shades are a clean and tailored option if you think curtain panels are too fussy for a particular room or window.

Not only can you get creative with the actual curtains you select, how you hang them is also an opportunity to get creative.  I never would have thought to install a curtain rod over my front door in order to have added privacy from solicitors or nosy neighbors.  The effect is very grand and unique.

How cool are these curtains?  I love the star cut-outs that allow light to come in!  I’m sure kids would especially love these.  I’ve also seen them in black where the cut out is a cityscape.

    Calming color

I think lavender is a surprising calming color that doesn’t get a lot of attention.  So here’s a little spotlight on lavender –  I hope you find it inspiring!

A lovely rug or throw blanket can do the trick if you are the person who loves to change up colors often. This shade of lavender is so pretty
Using lavender in a modern application can help the space from feeling two feminine.  This shower curtain might be purple, but it has a modern indie vibe to it that won’t scare off the men folk.
This bedroom is so pretty and comfortable looking.  And it was designed for a (very lucky) teenage girl!
The lavender used in this entryway and stairs is soft and unobtrusive, but you still notice it.
Are you a fan of lavender?

    Away from Home Office

Since I work from home, I tend to love posting pictures of inspiration for home offices. A few of my friends have rented space or work in a shared office setting and were struggling with ideas to make it feel more like home!
Hang a piece of gridded wire above your desk to keep pictures and inspiration visible.:

So what’s my advice for making it feel more like home? Find great additions that aren’t permanent that create the ambiance of home. Pictures and desk accessories are an easy budget friendly addition.
    Estacoes de trabalho fantasticos:
If you can add some plants and a couch. Bring home to you! An area rug, a lamp, pretty much anything can make you feel more at home.
Think outside the box! Get a desk that suits you instead of just using something more traditional or what the office already has. Bringing small pieces of furniture of your own for shelving, storage, or just simply decoration can make it unique to you.
Work it Out: Using Feng Shui in the Office Because we spend so many hours at the office, it’s important to incorporate feng shui health tips (not just productivity tips) into the office layout and décor. Here are some other ideas to complete your successful feng shui office space.:

If you are bound to what’s available, get away from the wall! Put your desk in the center of the room so you don’t feel like you are boxed in.
Make it inviting! Add some curtains, a blanket, a throw pillow! Anything to give the room some comfort and charm.
What would you do if you had your own office space away from home?

  • Taking ombre to the next level!

Taking ombre to the next level!

Ombre has been a major must do when it comes to hair this past year and even though it’s slowly fading away I am seeing it pop up in places I wouldn’t expect.

It wasn’t too long after the hair craze, that diy ombre cabinets started popping up all over the place.
Followed by ombre curtains and other home decor.
Ombre wall... stunning! I think I need one. Ombre is becoming big in 2013 in clothes nails, hair and even walls

But something much bolder and much newer caught my eye. Ombre walls!?
Could you picture a room in your home with ombre walls?

    Truly fresh and inspired spaces

I strive for a home that is thoughtfully decorated and put together, but at the same time not so styled and polished that it doesn’t look like anyone lives there.  It can be a hard balance to strike though, but if you take the time to pick out pieces, colors, and textures that are meaningful to you and fit your lifestyle, your home will feel beautiful to you even if there are shoes left by the door and mail piled on the counter.  Here are some spaces that I think are really beautiful, but have enough personality to shine even if someone really lives there!

Even though this space is small, seating is ample for a family, just scaled down to fit in the space.

I don’t iron my sheets either, though this be is prettier than mine with the gorgeous emerald shams and quilt!

This space reminds me of the courtyard rooms in Morocco.  What a treat to have that skylight!

  • Mustard Yellow

Although not a typical color of choice for home decor – it surprisingly packs a punch! Check out some of the inspiration I found:

  • Patio Inspiration

    Patio Inspiration

Where we live, it’s not uncommon for the deck to be off the second story and there be an open space or patio with a walk out basement. What to do with that open space can be a struggle for many!

Here are a few ideas to get you inspired to use that extra space instead of wasting it:

One of the most common reasons for it to not be used is because it’s constantly shaded and depending on when the sun gets around to it, sometimes it’s just plain dark and dingy. Adding a fireplace can make this unused space a go to for some warmth and comfort. This will also extend the life of your outdoor space!
Screen it in! Keep the bugs out and enjoy some shade for a change. This will also open up the choices you can make decorating and furniture wise for the space!
Make it a party space! Set it up for some great gatherings. This also doubles as a back up plan for outdoor parties in case of rainy weather.
Add some storage. Make the space have usable storage for all your outdoor needs. Whether it’s under the stairs or along one wall, most outdoor spaces could use a little extra storage.
Light it up! Take advantage of the beams and the under side of your deck and make it the ultimate setting. Whether you simply add curtains from the beams and or string lights, this place can go from drab to romantic in minutes.
