My dream first day of spring outfit

I’m sitting here watching another 18″ of snow fall on the 24″ we received here in MD on Saturday. I’m just itching for that first day when it’s 55 degrees – but I’ll still be out there in a t-shirt just to feel some sun on my arms. Anyway, it’s not going to be t-shirt weather anytime soon, but a girl can still dream!

I seriously might order those shoes – and that dress is adorable. What’s great is this stuff is all affordable! It’s also all from a really cute shop I just discovered (via Country Living’s Bargain issue), called Lulus.

A beautiful shabby chic Savannah cottage with some Scandinavian flavor

February is a great month for the home decor magazines. I had a stack waiting for me when I returned from Spain, and I’ve never used so many page markers! I thought I’d start off sharing all the things inspired me with this light and pretty Savannah cottage- which was condemned when the couple bought it for $29,000. I have a crush on Savannah so my ears always perk at the name!

I like the bedding and nightstand here, but I think all the objects above the headboard are a bit much. What do you think?

I really like flat(ish) weave, striped rugs. I really, really like them when they’re only $2.99 like the one above from Ikea.

Gorgeous poster designs to get your creative juices flowing

As some of you may or may not be aware, I have been a web designer (you can see some of the sites I’ve designed here) before I ever became interested in interior design, and it’s still the primary way I get the bills paid. Web Designers, like most creatives, well, like anyone in any industry I suppose, require fresh sources of inspiration and need to stay on top of what the market is responding to. Normally I don’t bring web/graphic design into Decorology but I thought some of these posters were so beautiful I just had to share.

Morocco Series: Peaceful, coastal Essaouira

Chris and I took a much needed, 2 day trip to Essaouira (about 3 hours by bus from Marrakesh. Essaouira offers a little rest from the non-stop pace of the medinas in Fes and Marrakesh. The medina in Essaouira is much smaller, and the beach and dunes offer beautiful views.

The city still looks like a fortress, and you’ll see many remnants (such as the forts and cannons), from the days when it was one. “During the 16th century, various powers including Spain, England, the Netherlands and France tried in vain to conquer the locality. Essaouira remained a haven for the export of sugar, molasses and the anchoring of pirates.” – via Wikipedia

The beach is a very popular place for windsurfers (the water is very rough), also dune buggies and camels. The island you see across the waves used to house a prison, but now it is a protected nesting ground for some type of falcon. (Correct me if I’m wrong about the bird)

I’m back on the farm in Maryland and we’re expecting 18-24″ of snow today and tomorrow! I was super indulgent today after all my traveling and slept till noon. (Naughty, I know) I’m a little late today but I want to send you into the weekend with a little eye candy. If you’re due for snow, hunker down with some homemade cookies and cocoa. If you’re not due for snow, enjoy you’re weekend anyway!

Beautiful, peaceful bedrooms

I’m heading “home” this afternoon after living out of a suitcase since Dec. 28th. It’ll be great to sleep in a bed and not a couch or a cot. I have gotten used to traveling and will miss it a bit, but a little time off the road will hopefully be recuperative and prepare me for my next round of travels! So, I thought some gorgeous bedrooms would be appropriate for today’s post!

Glamorous and chic interiors from Nest design

I actually discovered this firm because I was looking for some web design inspiration for an upcoming project, and ran across their site on a web design gallery. The firm is called Nest, and they’re located in Dallas, TX.

I love this conservatory – the mix of elegance brought in by the chairs and dining sets, with the roughness of the stone pavers and logs is a chic contrast.

Lighting inspiration and a chandelier I love!

All these beautiful photos are from Zia-Priven, a husband-wife duo who teamed up and got into the lighting biz in 1999. Marcia Zia-Priven, co-owner, introduced herself awhile back, and sadly I’m just now sharing them with you guys. Not only are their lighting solutions timeless, you can tell by the lovely gallery of lighting inspiration that she used to be a set designer. What do you think? Morocco Series: The intricate, breathtaking Ali Ben Youssef Medersa in Marrakesh

I’m not exaggerating – the Ali Ben Youssef Medersa was unbelievable. Every surface, nook, and cranny was adorned with meticulous stucco, or wood detailing. See for yourself.

Amazing detail!

This is a shot looking out of an upper level window – the detail extends all the way up to the roofs.

Beautiful views out the dormitory windows. The dorm rooms themselves are actually very modest rooms.
