Yay! A book giveaway!

0

It’s been too long since I’ve hosted a book giveaway?  So I wanted to make this one super good.  Just by commenting on this post – you’ll be put in the drawing to win the book Downtown Chic by Robert and Cortney Novogratz of Sixx Design

I’ve been flipping through this book on and off all day – they give some really good advice for making your home yours, and flea market shopping tips!

This is just a little nibble of the content:

How to Flea by Robert and Cortney Novogratz

• The great stuff sells before 6 AM; get there early, before the dealers snatch up the best things
• Get a large cup of coffee – it’s too early to be up on a weekend
• Negotiate. You can always walk away and go back later
• Be sure to bring the measurements of the spaces you are furnishing and a tape measure when shopping.

Don’t forget to comment on this post (scroll to the bottom of this post and right above “Labels” you will see a number followed by the word “comments.” Click on the word “Comments.” Or, you will see a link, “Post a Comment,” which you click on to comment)

If you receive posts in your email feel free to respond to the email noting that you’d like to be entered in the drawing.

Contest closes Thursday the 16th at 5pm. Good luck!

A little zen…

if you are in a frenzy today like me, take a moment to breathe…

zen doesn’t have to mean a Buddhist temple or complete minimalism. To me, zen is all about the relationship between beauty, order, and nature.

Super cute and charming kitchens…

0

So not all of these kitchens are tiny cottage nooks, but they aren’t the glossy granite and marble monstrosities you’d see in the high-end home decor mags either. Most are modest and give me hope that no matter how small the kitchen in my future rental, I can give it some charm and make it work for me…

Some vintage stools add coziness and floor to ceiling cabinets and creative storage solutions makes this small kitchen clever

Beautiful bedrooms with their own unique style

Look at enough home and decor mags, and you’ll be able to draw up a template for a pretty “designer” bedroom, but to come up with something that’s beautiful and truly “yours” is a bigger challenge. These bedrooms really give you a taste of the owner’s personality…

Love this mix of eastern, Victorian, and industrial influences.

Fabulous living rooms for every mood and taste

I’m not sure what you’d call the two styles above — modern eclectic? But I’m liking this style more and more these days. Since things don’t “match” you can use items you already have instead of buying new ones.

This living room – pictured above and below – is so unusual and luxe.  I ADORE the white media console and the huge white mirror…stunning

An otherwise dark and broody “club” like living room is brightened up by an interesting array of mirrors.

Love this space

The color of the china cabinet is perfect to add some interest to the space.

Two images above show the entryway.  The owners have used mismatched chairs in lieu of a console.

Great idea to remember – oversized prints hanging side by side in the hall

Perfect desk – plenty of surface area to spread out inspiration

LoVe that chair and the gorgeous view!

I don’t think I could ever do orange in my bedroom, but this wallpaper is beautiful. I could do it in my home office I think – as orange is supposed to boost creativity.

I am a magazine hoarder, because I’ve found that sometimes I’ll flip through a magazine from a year ago and something will catch my eye that didn’t the first time I looked through it. So perusing last summer’s magazine is sometimes like opening a brand new magazine. This bookshelf has the perfect sized cubbies to store mags.

A fresh spin on one of the best decorating classics of all time

We had them when I was growing up, but being a child I rarely gave them a second thought. And when I was a teenager and not as into “home decorating” I equated them to stuffy victorian style interiors.  But now – oh now I love them.  Oriental rugs is what I’m talking about, and lately I’ve been seeing them used in ways that are definitely NOT stuffy and really plays out their beauty.  Just fyi – because I wasn’t sure, I looked up what region a rug must come from for it to be considered “Oriental” –

Oriental rugs are organized by origin: Persian rugs, Arab rugs, Anatolian rugs, Kurdish rugs, Caucasian rugs, Central Asian rugs, Turkestanian rugs, Chinese rugs, Tibetan rugs and Indian rugs. via Wikipeia
