2024 Interior Design Trends: A Continued Focus On Sustainability and Showcasing Individuality

2024 interior design trends include continuing to prioritize sustainability, using natural materials, mixing eras, and flaunting what makes you unique.

Trends are fickle things, and I tend to give them little weight in my choices because of that. All that said, it doesn’t hurt to stay in the loop because trends impact the industry, and therefore the materials, products, and technology you will have to chose from when designing your ideal home.

    • Biophilic Design: Integrating nature into indoor spaces with the use of plants, natural materials, and sustainable design elements. Connecting occupants with the outside natural world has been touted to increase focus, creativity, and positive relationships between co-inhabitants.

    • Sustainable and Eco-Friendly Design: The focus on environmentally conscious materials, energy-efficient solutions, and upcycled or recycled furniture.
    • Neutral and Earthy Colors: A shift towards calming and earthy color palettes, including shades of beige, terracotta, and muted greens.
    • Multifunctional Spaces: The creation of flexible and adaptable spaces that serve multiple purposes, reflecting the changing needs of occupants.

    • Vintage and Retro Styles: A resurgence of interest in vintage furniture, retro color schemes, and nostalgic design elements.
    • Maximalism: Bold patterns, vibrant colors, and the use of diverse textures to create visually rich and eclectic interiors.

    • Technology Integration: Smart home technology seamlessly integrated into design, including smart lighting, thermostats, and automated home systems.
    • Wabi-Sabi Aesthetics: Embracing imperfections, asymmetry, and the beauty of natural aging in design, often associated with Japanese aesthetics.

    • Bold Patterns and Textures: The use of statement patterns, textured fabrics, and unique wall coverings to add visual interest to spaces.
    • Customization and Personalization: Designing spaces that reflect the personality and preferences of the occupants, often through custom furniture or personalized decor items.

  • Make Your Home Yours!

Certain days I like to say goodbye to what’s trending and hello to what my heart desires.
When it comes to home decor, most of us follow the trends and that’s fine, but it doesn’t hurt to do some digging around and find something that truly suits you.

When you pick home decor based on what moves you and brings you joy, you’d be amazed at how a space can come together and create something beautiful out of something so unexpected.

Since life keeps us changing and trends come and go, I love a good refresh every now and then.
Just looking at what others do can give you a brilliant idea for your own space.

Rearranging my where my desk in the room has been the biggest advantage I’ve made so far. I used to be up against a wall and now I am in the middle of the room.

  • Color crush: indigo and bold blues

So, I don’t usually jump on trends, but I have been seeing a lot of indigo and deep blues donning the walls of a lot of mags these days. I have to admit, I’m smitten!

I’m seriously considering painting our bedroom a color like this.  It is large with a high ceiling, and we have a very similar bed.  I think the contrast is really nice.

What do you guys think?  Do you like rooms painted in bold blues?

  • Kitchen Trends

Some of my favorite kitchen trends seem to come and go, but most of them always come back! Here are a few things my dream kitchen must have:

A must have is an island! I absolutely love the thought of an island in a kitchen, and especially one that stands out a little like this with the dark wood counter top.
What a great undermounted, farm style sink when paired with the countertops and cabinet styles.
There’s something about a farmhouse sink that makes me smile. I love under mounted sinks to begin with but I love the function of them as well as the look!

Another must have is a large gorgeous hood! I may not be a professional cook but in my dream kitchen there would be a large hood that makes a statement.
Seriously...why is this not the norm?
And last but not least, a must have is great storage! There’s no point in having a luxurious kitchen if I can’t easily find everything I need.
