A refreshing change for bedroom design
I’ve noticed a lot of bedrooms these days where the bed is placed directly under the window. What do you think of this look?Is it just the placement of the room and where the window’s fall or is there actually something to it that I don’t know?Did you know it was actually bad Feng Shui to put your bed under a window? It’s said that at night, your body needs protection and strong support to do it’s best regeneration. But what do homeowners with beds under there window have to say about it?Some say it’s the only way to balance out the room. Given the size or shape of their room, it’s the only place the bed fits.Other’s say it’s refreshing to wake up with natural light shinning on them. It seems to me, like that would be a lovely alarm clock!Would you put your bed under a window? If you already do and have other great reasons why, I’d love to hear in the comments below! -
Beautiful Beds
A well-made bed
Since having our second son Beau in October, and with an active 2.5 year-old, I don’t get to see my bed very often. Ohhhhh how I miss it. Maybe it’s some odd form of self-torture to be perusing the internet for pictures of beautiful beds, but that’s how I’m operating these days. Enjoy!
I tend to go for beds that are a mix of crisp and tailored but also cozy and layered. I don’t like a bed that’s too “shabby chic” or one that looks like the sheets will crackle when I get in them.
A lot of people might like this trend of losing the top sheet. My husband and I tried it, but we weren’t fans. It meant I was left with nothing when my husband stole the duvet from me in the middle of the night.
My recipe for a well-made bed:
- Fitted sheet
- Flat sheet
- Middle blanket (unless we are using our down comforter, in which case a middle blanket would make the bed too warm.
- Quilt or coverlet (the focal point of your bed unless you have a show-stopping headboard – Maharaja headboard from Wisteria anyone?).
- Throw at the foot of the bed incase your bed fellow manages to steal the sheet, middle blanket, and quilt.
- Pillows – I waiver on one pillow, two pillows, or a neck pillow.
Not crazy about the bedskirt and I couldn’t sleep on those pillows, but still a very pretty bed!
This bed looks so welcoming to me. I’m not usually super into monogramming, but I like it here. It brings in the accent color where otherwise the bed might look too stark.
This bed with linen sheets looks divine too.

Warm and rustic spaces to inspire you to cozy up for winter
Well, we’re expectinh highs of 78 here in Maryland, but we all know winter will be here in the blink of an eye. Whether you’re a fan of winter or not, these rustic cozy interiors will make evenings indoor a toasty treat.A glamorous modern chandelier and sleek upholstered headboard nicely contrast the dark wook paneling.
A really cool live edge wood headboard, and wool and fur textures make this the perfect cold weather retreat.
This ceiling has so much vision. I never would have thought to panel the ceiling in wood planks! All of the textures in the bedding are nice too!
How gorgeous is this hallway and staircase with wood beams?
This kitchen is AMAZING. Sleek cabinetry and square tiles paired with rough hewn beams, wideplank floors, and that island?!?
Just add a fireplace to this bathroom and it’s perfect for winter nights!

Style the perfect bed for Fall
Now that the temperatures are dropping (*tear), it means I’ve been pulling out heavier blankets for warmth during the cool nights. I thought it would be a good time to dig up some inspiration for dressing your bed for fall.
Just because you’re piling on layers doesn’t meed your be can’t be tailored. Go for crisp sheets and graphic patterns.
via Pinterest via FlickrI like the mix of elegance from the velvet stools and headboard mixed with the preppier pattern and color of the pillows.
via Gallerie BFolding over your flat sheet, topping it with a thin quilt, and then topping it with a warm duvet is a great way to have the warmth you need but ability to cool off a bit if you need to.
via Gallerie BGood bones in this bedroom and bold graphic bedding is the perfect combination in this black and white bedroom.
via ?Lots of pattern in pretty shades of blue make even this small bedroom welcoming.
via Apartment TherapyEven a modern black and white bedroom can look cozy with high contrast bedding.

Decorating with Velvet for a touch of luxe
I’m definitely not into frilly and fussy when it comes to my home decor, but sometimes a girl just needs a little luxury in her life. Especially as the temperatures drop and we spend more times indoors, it’s nice to have your home feeling a little more indulgent and comfortable.
Enter velvet, beautiful color, amazing texture, and when done right just the right amount of chic.
Here are some examples of velvet used in decorating that I love.
How beautiful is that blue velvet chair?
More is more with a chesterfield in velvet and a faux fur throw to boot.
For just a small touch of glamor try a velvet ottoman.
via Pinterest via Studio McGeeReally scared of going overboard? With velvet pillow you can’t!
This green velvet ottoman on the pink rug is a fun combination, and keeps the room from taking itself so seriously.
If you’re into more is more, nothing is more luxurious than a velvet headboard in royal navy!
Do you have any velvet in your home?

Bedroom Window
I’ve noticed this trend of putting a bed under a window and was wondering if there was a certain reason why people were doing this?Is it just the placement of the room and where the window’s fall or is there actually something to it that I don’t know?Did you know it was actually bad Feng Shui to put your bed under a window? Bedside Tables I Love
Almost every bed is paired with a bedside table, but don’t think you have to stick with something that matches your headboard or dresser set. Some of the best bedrooms are mix and match and these are just a few that I love:What kind of side tables do you love? Do you mix and match your bedroom furniture or buy matching sets? Glamorous but not over the top bedrooms
To me, the bedroom is potentially the most important room – though I know this is debatable. I sleep A LOT though so my bedroom needs to put a smile on my face. Here are a few bedrooms that do just that. Enjoy!
Love the wall color – could use a headboard though…
GORGEOUS
The quilt doesn’t look too hokey country because the rest of the bed is all white
I would never think to paint my bedroom chocolate but this is beautiful.

Gorgeous but small bedrooms that are creative with space
So, reader Kaylee propositioned me with a request to round up some tips and tricks for making a small bedroom work. So, hopefully, I’ve found something that can inspire everyone in someway – even if you have a big bedroom!
To save precious space in this bedroom, the TV has been mounted on a pivoting arm, and a shelf has been mounted above the radiator for plants.
For this SUPER small bedroom, a shelf has been mounted by the bed since there was no space for a nightstand.
An unusually shaped bedroom is pulled together with a matching pair of nightstand, and the projector is mounted above the bed.
Love big color but afraid it will make your small room look smaller? Try it out by painting just one wall – ideally behind your bed (usually the focal point of a bedroom). I love this turquoise wall in this tiny bedroom.
The upholstered white bench actually serves as pretty storage as the top opens as a chest. A small night stand and lamp gives you storage but still fits in the space
Another creative use of a small space. A narrow but tall dresser is vertical storage and a TV stand, and dog beds go under the bench. No dogs? Get some rectangular baskets to slide under the bench or bed for storage.
This is a studio apartment but this bed is a perfect example of clever storage. I also like the clever arrangement of framed photos behind it.
Isn’t the tiny chandelier adorable? And the wide windowsill is used as a surface.
Another bed with lots of storage items. I don’t know if the dresser at the end of the bed is a footboard or an actual dresser – but it’s a unique storage solution.
Instead of a traditional headboard – a tall and narrow console can act as a headboard visually but provide space for lamps, books, and other smallish items.

Unique but beautiful bedrooms
I’m off to Portugal for a long weekend so I won’t be back until Tuesday, but I leave you with some great eye candy. Have a great weekend everyone!
Love this headboard and the storage under the bed.
