A refreshing change for bedroom design
I’ve noticed a lot of bedrooms these days where the bed is placed directly under the window. What do you think of this look?Is it just the placement of the room and where the window’s fall or is there actually something to it that I don’t know?Did you know it was actually bad Feng Shui to put your bed under a window? It’s said that at night, your body needs protection and strong support to do it’s best regeneration. But what do homeowners with beds under there window have to say about it?Some say it’s the only way to balance out the room. Given the size or shape of their room, it’s the only place the bed fits.Other’s say it’s refreshing to wake up with natural light shinning on them. It seems to me, like that would be a lovely alarm clock!Would you put your bed under a window? If you already do and have other great reasons why, I’d love to hear in the comments below! -
An old Portland Library turned into a beautiful home!
Jessica Helgerson Interior Design turns a former library into a client’s dream house.
The project was a complete remodel of the small public library in Portland’s Sellwood neighborhood. It was then used as a church meeting hall. The designers really wanted to preserve the feeling of the big open space of the library and converted it to a great room.
The remodel was kept traditional with modern decor and furnishings used as a nice contrast.
Jewel tones are also used via the furnishings and art.Bookshelves were added throughout to keep in theme with the library.
The great room is comprised of the kitchen, dining, and living areas.
The art is by local Portland artists Anya Spielman and Jocelyn Rahm. How beautiful is that chair?
The ladder is a nice nod to the house’s original use as a library.
The entry and powder room was originally an open front porch that they enclosed.
The bedrooms were quite small so cabinetry was built in wherever possible.
What do you think of this home?

Tiny bedrooms that are absolutely amazing
A tiny bedroom might mean you have to live without some storage space, but by no means does it mean you have to live without style and beauty. See below for the proof!
via My DomaineGo for impact! With an iron canopy bed as dramatic as this one, no one is going to notice the lack of square footage in the this elegant bedroom.
Go for illusion. The crisp vertical lines in this room – the drapes, and stripes on the fabric – all draw the eye up to the amazing ceiling, and give the illusion of an airy space.
Go for cozy. Layer fabrics and textures and paint the walls a warm, saturated hue. This will make it apparent you wanted to embrace your small, intimate bedroom.
via YazineazizGo for light. A mirrored wall might make some shudder, but give it another look. Mirrors give you double the light effect when placed correctly because they reflect it so well. I always try to place a mirror on the opposite wall from the windows when I can. Imagine waking up in your bedroom filled with morning sunlight!

Go for multifunctional. An old trick but a good one. A headboard that also acts as a book shelf provides more opportunity to add style and function to a small bedroom. -
Bedroom Window

Make A Small Bedroom Work
With downsizing comes small rooms. If making it all fit terrifies you, don’t worry! There are some simple tips to make it work that will change the way you look at your small bedroom.Think outside the box. Make a larger bed work in a small room with some creativity!Remember that it’s just a bedroom and get rid of the extra unnecessary things. All you need is a bed, side tables, and maybe a dresser depending on storage!Remember this is a room where you are sleeping, not spending your day!For a kids room, storage is key! Kids come with a lot of miscellaneous things and a small room doesn’t leave much floor space. Make sure everything has a place.Add a mirror or a pop of color on one wall. Painting the whole room might make the room feel smaller so limiting it to one wall helps define the space but keep it from feeling closed in.It won’t be long before you hear yourself saying that a small bedroom isn’t so bad after all! What would you do with a small bedroom? -
Gorgeous but small bedrooms that are creative with space
So, reader Kaylee propositioned me with a request to round up some tips and tricks for making a small bedroom work. So, hopefully, I’ve found something that can inspire everyone in someway – even if you have a big bedroom!
To save precious space in this bedroom, the TV has been mounted on a pivoting arm, and a shelf has been mounted above the radiator for plants.
For this SUPER small bedroom, a shelf has been mounted by the bed since there was no space for a nightstand.
An unusually shaped bedroom is pulled together with a matching pair of nightstand, and the projector is mounted above the bed.
Love big color but afraid it will make your small room look smaller? Try it out by painting just one wall – ideally behind your bed (usually the focal point of a bedroom). I love this turquoise wall in this tiny bedroom.
The upholstered white bench actually serves as pretty storage as the top opens as a chest. A small night stand and lamp gives you storage but still fits in the space
Another creative use of a small space. A narrow but tall dresser is vertical storage and a TV stand, and dog beds go under the bench. No dogs? Get some rectangular baskets to slide under the bench or bed for storage.
This is a studio apartment but this bed is a perfect example of clever storage. I also like the clever arrangement of framed photos behind it.
Isn’t the tiny chandelier adorable? And the wide windowsill is used as a surface.
Another bed with lots of storage items. I don’t know if the dresser at the end of the bed is a footboard or an actual dresser – but it’s a unique storage solution.
Instead of a traditional headboard – a tall and narrow console can act as a headboard visually but provide space for lamps, books, and other smallish items.
