  • Kitchen Trends

Some of my favorite kitchen trends seem to come and go, but most of them always come back! Here are a few things my dream kitchen must have:

A must have is an island! I absolutely love the thought of an island in a kitchen, and especially one that stands out a little like this with the dark wood counter top.
What a great undermounted, farm style sink when paired with the countertops and cabinet styles.
There’s something about a farmhouse sink that makes me smile. I love under mounted sinks to begin with but I love the function of them as well as the look!

Another must have is a large gorgeous hood! I may not be a professional cook but in my dream kitchen there would be a large hood that makes a statement.
Seriously...why is this not the norm?
And last but not least, a must have is great storage! There’s no point in having a luxurious kitchen if I can’t easily find everything I need.

These super adorable prints are from liberty heritage fabric but they are found on decor8blog which I absolutely love. Holly is so creative and such an inspiration.

Maria Killam has an amazing post out about using ceramic tile to make a space eye catching. I love the different patterns and options she shows off and how much character they can add to the home.
This fabulous kitchen which uses the two toned cabinets. I’m also in love with how simple and chic it is! Providence Ltd Design took my breath away with this one!
And last but not least, Pink Wallpaper is making me want to spend a little more time outside enjoying the weather this summer!

Inspiring ways to use subway tiles

Sometimes the simplicity of subway tiles really makes me happy. They are simple, can be dressed up or dressed down, and always budget friendly. They are also a classic… but I’m interested to see what you think about them! Would you put subway tiles in your home?

  • Small Kitchen Inspiration and Ideas for adding space

Small Kitchen Inspiration and Ideas for adding space

Working within a small space is a hard job, especially in a kitchen when you love to cook! There are some really creative ways to work in a small kitchen and one of them is a small island. Sometimes you just need that extra work space and it can make a huge difference, and also look pretty awesome.  I have also found that once I get my small kitchen organized, it can actually be easier to cook in because everything is within an arm’s reach!

An island is an obvious solution and for good reason.  They can add surface/work space and storage underneath.  And these days, you have your pick when it comes to island style, size, etc.

I don’t think the island has to match your cabinetry, but I do like them to be tied into at least one other element in the space, like this island does the hood.

Keep it clean and sleek looking and it will help keep the small space from looking cluttered. Dress it up with a vase and flowers when you have company over.
Buy one with wheels so it can roll away if you need it to! Some kitchen’s need that extra work space but it’s not convenient to have around all the time.  We actually have this exact same island from Ikea and it’s going strong 4 years later.
  • Fun Kitchen Projects

    Fun Kitchen Projects

Making your kitchen your own can seem a little daunting since most homes come with the basic builder kitchen materials. Here are a few ideas to bring a little of your personality into your kitchen!

Picking unique door knobs and pulls is a great way to add a touch of you into your kitchen. I’m loving the sink faucet that goes with the rest of the pulls!

This clean white kitchen brightens up with turquoise and yellow accents.

Changing out your back splash is a great way to add some character to your kitchen. There are so many different options these days that it’s easier to have that unique look in your home and depending on the size of your kitchen, this could be an easy weekend project!

    grey cabinets

Go bold with color cabinets that contrast so great with the rest of the light tones in this home! Find a color you love since this is a much more time consuming project! A good test run would to be to paint one drawer or cabinet door to get a feel if you like it or not.

Colorful Kitchen Islands. LOVE this! and those pendant lights?? NEED!

Not interested in painting every cabinet in your kitchen? try just the island! I love the color of this one! I also like how they used the pop of grey on the hood range.

Inside back of cabinets painted with Sherwin Williams Urbane Bronze. Love this

Another idea would to be paint the insides of the cabinet and add some glass doors. This is a great way to show off your best dishware and add another dimension to your kitchen!

Have fun bringing in a little more you into your home decor!

Inspiring ways to use a neutral palette

It’s no secret I’m a fan of grays, whites, and other cool neutrals.  Using neutrals really allows me to experiment with different accent colors via pillows, throws, and accent colors.  That means if I end up not being able to live with a green or purple I loved last month, it’s not like I wasted a ton of money on a sofa I no longer like.  However, done right – with layering textures and patterns, neutrals can stand all on their own as a gorgeous palette.

I’m really liking gray and brown lately too, like the gray door and the wooden mirror frame.

    dustjacket attic: Manhattan Apartment (lonny)

Drooling over this kitchen.  I don’t know if I dust enough to ever have such dark floors, but they are gorgeous when contrasted with the white cabinetry.  And that Moroccan inspired tile? Don’t even get me started.

A bit warmer tones than I normally go for but this is still working for me.

Kitchen Inspiration! Open up those shelves

I keep seeing open shelving in the kitchen and I’m starting to love the look. It’s a great way to open up your kitchen since bulky shelving can take up a lot of visual space. This is also a great way to keep yourself organized since you don’t want your shelves looking messy!

open shelves and subway tiles. Yes to the white cabinets and counters, too. Make the shelves white.

    via peoniesandbrass

If you aren’t sure whether open shelves works for you, consider taking out one or two just to see how it goes!

There's nothing in this kitchen that I don't love. I love the brick accent wall, the oversized chalkboard message, the open shelves, the white cabinetry...

    via lizmarie

Not only are they great for storage but it’s a great way to add a little decor to your kitchen as well!

    Open shelves

If you need larger shelving space going with large open cabinets may be what you need! It still gives you the visual open kitchen but doesn’t lack in storage.

Love all the jars labeled for organizing dry goods.

There are so many different styles of shelves, have fun with it and find a shelf that matches your style and home decor. Of course, if you know there’s just no way you can keep your stuff tidy, stick with cabinets…

    Lovely Eye Candy

To get you in the mood of falling in love today, here are some rooms I’m falling for these days:

  • Tips for bringing a touch of red into your home

Tips for bringing a touch of red into your home

With February right around the corner and Valentine’s Day coming up soon, what better time to experiment with that powerful and passionate color: red

Artwork is a great way to test out red.

Or a great statement piece of furniture.

If you already use a color in your home that is complementary with red, adding a few accents will be easy and look thought out.

Throws and lampshades are great budget friendly ways to bring a little love in the room without breaking the budget.

A new piece of wall art can change up the room and adding a few pillows and a bench seat or stool can tie it all together!

Do you use red in your decor?

  • Ready for that room – or whole home makeover?

Ready for that room – or whole home makeover?

It’s easy to dream about the home you’d create if only you’d have the time, and even if you are savvy and a talented decorator, sometime you still need help – or at least to partner with someone to help you keep on track and avoid mistakes that might have been avoided if you’d only had that second set of eyeballs checking dimensions or price tags.  Or, if you don’t have the confidence to do it yourself, there are service out there to help you bring you ideas to fruition.

A lot of furniture stores offer complimentary design services, so remember to inquire if you make a purchase.

There are also many companies that will help you with the layout and design of your kitchen like Wren Living. Some of them will even install most of it for you!

There’s also places like Wren’s Living that will do every step with you. They help you plan, design, custom fit things in your space, install, and even go on to extend your care afterwards in case there are any mishaps. What ever company you go with, be sure to familiarize yourself with their warranty and guarantee information.

So if you aren’t comfortable trying to figure out a space on our your own don’t hesitate to ask for help! Sometimes having a designer there to walk you through things can make the process a lot smoother, and give you lots of little tips and tricks you wouldn’t have thought of on your own.
