  • Walls that Make A Statment

Lately my eyes have been drawn to some great rooms that are making a statement and I am loving it! Whether they are bold, classy, or just downright elegant, it is nice to see someone take a chance and make something beautiful out of it.

This wallpaper would not be an immediate first choice for me but it definitely does make you stop and stare! Seeing it in this room really makes me love it more!
A wall of windows is always eye-catching. The bold choice of black makes it stand out even more and I think it was a great choice.
Another non traditional wall paper in a room you wouldn’t expect! Since bathrooms are small I tend to do with less is more in these areas but since the wallpaper has a lot of white space it really works here! I also like the simplicity of the color scheme.
Upholstery tacks are often seen on furniture, seeing it as a wall decor statement is something I’ve never considered.

Layers of color: how to break away from monochrome and embrace color

Sometimes, you can describe what you mean – you need to a picture.  I think the following examples are a great way to describe how to layer different colors in a space to create a harmonious and memorable room.

Scared?  Start with the guest bed bedding to try your hand at mixing colors.  From their you can build the confidence to work with larger spaces?

Anyone here a master at mixing colors?  Or are you afraid?

  • Going Grey

    Going Grey

There’s something to be said about the color grey, especially in a home setting. It isn’t too feminine and it isn’t to masculine. You can pair it with almost any color, and it leaves such a crisp clean look to it!  I’m a long-time fan, hubby is a little harder to convince.  He thinks it’s boring…sigh…

In most cases, it goes great with keeping a room light and bright!

Taking A Minimalist Approach – clean and serene spaces

Sometimes I think we forget that simple can be just as beautiful as well decorated! With things so hectic in my life with the wedding right now, it’s nice to see such simple, clean spaces.  Spring is also a great time to clear out clutter – so be a little more ruthless when you empty out those closets this season.

This office space really inspires me to clear mine out a bit.  Less “stuff” means less distractions and therefore better focus.

I don’t think minimal has to mean bare, just well edited and thought out.  It also calls more attention to the objects you do display, so they can take center stage.

Minimal also doesn’t need to be white, light, or neutral. It’s all about lines and your ratio of positive and negative space.

    Windows That Make A Statement

The right windows can make a room feel warmer, cleaner, larger, or more luxurious! Natural light gives a room something most indoor lighting can’t match.  I appreciate natural light most in the morning, when it makes waking up a little brighter, and in the evening when it fills the house with golden light. Check out the windows that are making a statement in these rooms:

    Clean lines & calming curves.

I love this little nook of windows. A great space for a little kitchen table or maybe even a great book and a comfy chair!

Non traditional windows really give the room a modern, or historical look. This room feels so grandiose and industrial chic with floor to ceiling windows.

The lines of this room are clean and classic, but the wallpaper and bright green also make it fresh.

I like symmetry in design as long as the objects used are fun and unstuffy.

The colors in the rooms above and below are so lush…if I lived in a colder climate I would definitely use them.

Liveable rooms full of attainable glamor…

This light-filled kitchen stays humble but pretty with simple, classic cabinets, and simple light fixtures.

A dark neutral adds instant elegance

This room is literally brought to life with plants.

I ADORE this bedroom. The bedding adds a lot of glamor, which is kept down-to-earth with a neutral, solid rug.

This room is very mid-century mod, but it doesn’t feel overly gimmicky to me.

If you’re scared of bold color or pattern – do it in a small space like an entryway or powder room first. I tend to think “big impact” is more interesting in small spaces anyway.

A stunning modern (and elegant) farm house

This house by Kim Winkler is really unique. Rarely do you see such an amazing blend of dark, luxurious elegance paired with such rustic elements.

This picture has inspired me to maybe paint my bathroom black…. anyone here tried it?

    stunning

I would never think to pair those chairs with that table, but it works really well imho.
