Herein, we share valuable interior design tips and tricks to help you make a homely Airbnb.

    Understand Your Target Audience

Think about your target audience before you call in an interior designer. Factors like the location of your property and the type of guests it will attract will come into play. For example, adding a kids’ play area to a family-sized retreat will make the place look better.

Go for neutral colors to create a timeless and calming atmosphere that appeals to various guests. You can add throw pillows, sculptures, and artwork on the wall to bring in more appeal and add color. Designing with visitors in mind will enhance their experience during their stay.

    Versatile and Functional Spaces

Versatile and functional furniture allows the guests to customize the space to their needs. Instead of adding regular sofas, why not go for a sofa bed and foldable chairs? This works well for tiny homes with limited space.

While you’re at it, invest in high-quality Airbnb amenities and furnishings. You don’t have to go overboard with the amenities keep it simple with the necessities. Most people will carry their snacks and toiletries, so you don’t have to overstock.

    Ample Lighting

Ambient lighting will elevate your Airbnb, especially if you can get natural light to flow in during the day. Work with an interior designer to create a mix of ambient, task, and accent lighting to create a warm and inviting atmosphere.

You can add in mirrors on the walls to improve natural light flow into the rooms. Placing a mirror opposite a small window will double the light in the house. Besides boosting light flow, mirrors also make the rooms look bigger.

    Regular Maintenance

Maintaining your Airbnb on a regular will attract more clients. No one wants to spend time in a house with broken window panes or paint peeling off the walls. Ensure that all of the appliances are in good condition and working.

Items like shower heads and power sockets can wear out quickly if you have guests over most of the time. Schedule maintenance routines with an expert to check everything is working well. Also, ask clients to report any appliances or parts that need repair.

    Final Thoughts

Converting an extra room into an Airbnb can be a nice way of earning passive income. The tips shared in this guide will help you create a perfect retreat that will leave your guests impressed. You can go the DIY way with interior design or hire a professional for a touch of elegance and class to the furnishings. Thanks to iGMS for consulting.

  • An Elegant Touch of Vintage

    An Elegant Touch of Vintage

An oldie but a goodie here…I’m under the wire today so I’m recycling a post back from 2015 that I thought was fun.  The vintage shabby chic look is not my style anymore, but I thought all of these photos were examples of great design.  Enjoy!

Adding a simple elegant touch to your decor, using vintage items, may not seem as easy as it sounds. Here are some great pictures to help you get inspired:

It can be as simple as adding an older piece to your current home decor, or mixing great finds together to create a room filled with a vintage feel.

Don’t feel rushed to find the perfect pieces, sometimes it takes a lot of shopping around, thrift stores, and flea markets to find that perfect one.
Mixing modern with vintage may be more of what you are looking for.
The fun thing about a vintage touch, is it is completely up to you! Add a few pieces, or make it a whole room of vintage decor.

Elegant interiors need not mean gaudy ostentatious interiors.  True elegance lies in class, understatement, and boatloads of taste.  The spaces below epitomize what I consider elegance.  Enjoy!

That creamy blue gray, the elaborate moulding, and those aged hardwood floors?  Heaven!

The perfect blue wall that’s not too bright or too dull, and a timeless piece of quality wood furniture make this room perfection.

This room for me is just on the cusp of being too “rich”, but the modern art keeps it from being too much luxe.

Wowsa.  Those rugs and the aged floors bring the mouldings on the wall down to earth.

The playful pink velvet pillow provides a needed break from jewel tones.  I never would have thought to put those curtains with that wall color, but I really like it.

    Murphy Beds

The idea of a murphy bed is a great option for those who are lacking in space, but it’s hard to find one that actually looks comfortable! After doing some digging around, I actually found a few I might use:

This one feels open and elegant, but also looks like it would close up to look like gorgeous storage!
I love the two tone wall to make it look like a different space, and the indents in the side for shelving use!

Wall Inspiration: Walls that Make A Statment

    Wall Inspiration

Lately my eyes have been drawn to some great rooms that are making a statement and I am loving it! Whether they are bold, classy, or just downright elegant, it is nice to see someone take a chance and make something beautiful out of it.

This wallpaper would not be an immediate first choice for me but it definitely does make you stop and stare! Seeing it in this room really makes me love it more! If you can’t commit to a whole wall in wallpaper, consider some wall decals or smaller wall decorations from a resource like https://americansignletters.com/.

A wall of windows is always eye-catching. The bold choice of black makes it stand out even more and I think it was a great choice.

Another non traditional wall paper in a room you wouldn’t expect! Since bathrooms are small I tend to do with less is more in these areas but since the wallpaper has a lot of white space it really works here! I also like the simplicity of the color scheme.

Upholstery tacks are often seen on furniture, seeing it as a wall decor statement is something I’ve never considered.

    Minimalist Interiors

Sometimes I think we forget that simple can be just as beautiful and well decorated! With things so hectic in my life right now, it’s nice to see such minimalist interiors that are simple and clean.  Spring and summer is also a great time to clear out clutter – so be a little more ruthless when you empty out those closets this season.

This office space really inspires me to clear mine out a bit.  Less “stuff” means less distractions and therefore better focus.

I don’t think minimal has to mean bare, just well edited and thought out.  It also calls more attention to the objects you do display, so they can take center stage.

Minimal also doesn’t need to be white, light, or neutral. It’s all about lines and your ratio of positive and negative space.

Lush velvet chairs evoke glamour and comfort, charcoal walls and a gold pendant add edge.

Fun artwork and modern foil wallpaper keep this space from being stuffy.

A circular table is instantly cozier than a rectangular one, while the details on that amazing settee scream sophistication.

This dining room is a hybrid home library and eating space.  Not a conventional pairing, but I love it.

A velvet upholstered banquette and a Saarinen table?  Yes please!

Start your week off right: Elegant interiors with historic drama

I grew up in an early nineteenth century telescope house on the eastern shore of Maryland, so I LOVE homes with old bones and details that only existed when we had time for details.  The interiors below evoke the same nostalgia for me.  Enjoy!
That ceiling with those herringbone floors and green walls?!

Definitely Mediterranean.  The doors of Spain are works of art.
The floors and wainscoting are a bit dark for me.  But I love the wide doorways and the view into all of the rooms right down to the ornate fireplace surround.

Knotty hardwood floors, exposed beams, a chair that also serves as an objet d’art.

THIS really reminds me of the house I grew up in.  Colonial style furnishings, and chandelier lined hallways with rooms lined up one after the other.
The patina of the walls and the old hardwood floors are dreamy.

When a room gets overwhelming to me, the first thing I do is take a few things out. Sometimes simply clearing the space can refresh me.
That can happen with more than just decor items. Sometimes colors and textures can be overwhelming too and just taking one piece out can help you find that balance.
