    How to Decorate Your Sunroom

Decorating a sunroom can turn it into a beautiful and functional space that maximizes natural light and outdoor views. Here are some tips to create an inviting and stylish sunroom:

    How to decorate your sunroom

    Furniture Selection:

Comfortable Seating: Choose comfortable chairs, sofas, or loungers with weather-resistant fabrics.

Mix of Styles: Blend indoor and outdoor furniture styles for a cohesive look.

Flexible Arrangement: Opt for lightweight furniture that can be easily rearranged to accommodate different uses.

    How to decorate your sunroom

    Color Scheme:

Light and Airy: Use light colors like whites, creams, pastels, or soft grays to enhance the natural light.

Pops of Color: Add vibrant accents through cushions, throws, or rugs to create interest and personality.

    Textiles and Fabrics:

Durable Fabrics: Use fabrics that can withstand sunlight, such as outdoor or fade-resistant materials.

Layered Textures: Incorporate a mix of textures like cotton, linen, and rattan for a cozy feel.

    How to decorate your sunroom

    Flooring:

Natural Materials: Consider natural flooring options like hardwood, bamboo, or stone tiles.

Rugs: Add area rugs to define spaces and add warmth.

    Plants and Greenery:

Indoor Plants: Bring in a variety of indoor plants to enhance the connection with nature.

Herb Garden: Consider a small herb garden for a practical and aromatic addition.

    How to decorate your sunroom

    Windows and Treatments:

Minimalist Treatments: Use sheer curtains, shades, or blinds to maintain privacy while allowing light to filter through.

UV Protection: Consider UV-blocking treatments to protect furniture and fabrics from sun damage.

    Lighting:

Layered Lighting: Use a combination of ambient, task, and accent lighting to create a well-lit space.

Natural Light Maximization: Make the most of natural light during the day and use soft, warm lighting in the evening.

    Decorative Elements:

Wall Art: Add artwork that complements the sunroom’s theme and colors.

Mirrors: Use mirrors to reflect light and create a sense of space.

Accessories: Incorporate decorative items like vases, lanterns, and sculptures to personalize the space.

    Functional Additions:

Multi-purpose Furniture: Use furniture pieces that offer storage or can serve multiple functions.

Workspace: Consider a small desk or workspace for reading or hobbies.

    Outdoor Connection:

Seamless Transition: Create a seamless transition between the sunroom and outdoor spaces with similar decor styles.

Outdoor View: Arrange furniture to maximize views of the garden or landscape.

By combining these elements thoughtfully, you can create a sunroom that is not only aesthetically pleasing but also a comfortable and versatile space for relaxation and enjoyment.

  • Ideas for Expanding Your Home

    Ideas for Expanding Your Home

There is nothing quite like having your own home. Your house is your castle and you are free to make whatever changes you see fit. This allows for all sorts of customizations which add value to the house, but mostly make it more livable. Most people will remodel the kitchen or knock down walls, but why stop there? Adding new rooms or additions to the house will help give it a unique charm, expand interior floor space, and offer new customization options. Here are just a few ideas for ways you can expand your home.

    First: Consider Your Property Lines

Obviously, when thinking about making an addition to your home, you have to keep the property lines in mind. You do not want to completely obliterate the back yard, and even if that is your goal, taking up too much space can mean no more room to grow in the future. You will want to keep some space between property lines and your home regardless, as this provides room for contractors to work in. Not just builders, but any future contractors you may need to bring in for whatever reason.

    Second: Consult with a Professional

When considering an addition to your house, consult with a professional architect. They can take a look at the layout of your existing home and make recommendations to keep your addition aesthetically pleasing while delivering what you are after. Note that we cannot guarantee that everything you want is possible with your existing home, but if it is – a professional will figure it out.

    Start from the Back

The most common starting point for additions is to look into the back yard. Patios, pavilions, or a simple entryway in the back can help connect your home to the yard. In fact, depending on how you structure and organize the addition, you may even be able to create the sensation of your home spilling out into the yard. This can be an excellent addition for a kitchen – creating an outdoorsy space to enjoy your meal.

    Consider Building Up

This depends on your foundation and local building codes, but other than those there is nothing stopping you from building up. This idea can be especially good if you are running out of room to expand. You have a number of design choices available if you choose to add a second floor to your building. Balconies are popular additions once you have some living areas constructed. It can also be a way to feel on top of the world when working from a home office.

    Keep Function in Mind

When making any additions to your house, keep the function of these additions in mind. Having an idea of what you want that you do not have will inform your architectural decisions. Let your mind go wild when thinking of these additions, and only take the time to temper them down when it comes time to plan out the addition.

    Do Not Neglect the Basics

When you are planning an addition to the home, it can be easy to forget the basics. Remember that you want any comforts available now to remain available throughout the home. This means remembering the electrical systems, cable systems, and of course climate control. Speak with your service providers to get recommendations about how to make sure these services remain available with any addition to your home. This is especially the case with climate control – consider a mini-split system so you do not have go through the trouble of installing potentially expensive ductwork. Cable lines should be run to the new room if it is closed in, along with electrical outlets. Though obviously, an outdoor room might do better without if it is not water-tight – consult with your local contractors when thinking about your addition to make sure your new room is as comfortable as the rest of the house!

    Feminine Style

I love this girl’s style, I did a post on her office space awhile back.  You can see it here: gorgeous home offices.  So, it’s no surprise that her home was just as beautiful.  I am a sucker for feminine style.  Soft colors, lush textures and attention to the tiniest details for me make create an environment where one feels comfortable and pampered.

  • Beautiful outdoor spaces for every style

Pretty simple concept today – the beauty of the outdoors. And when you can spend time outdoors as comfortably as you can inside your home, why wouldn’t you?

A large table and plenty of chairs means room for good friends and good food.

This space is perfect for enjoying a lazy summer Sunday afternoon. I would catch up on my magazines and definitely leave the devices inside.  The canopy really makes this patio special.

The garden, the fireplace…I’d be out here as much as I could.

With a beautiful tree like that on the property you don’t need much more than a  simple table and chairs

Using clear trays as tables is such a great idea.  Love the fireplace too.

Small outdoor space?  Live it up – just get everything on a small scale to fit!

    Lake House Inspiration

It’s the beginning of vacation time! The sun is finally out and getting some time off to enjoy it is everyone’s goal. As you know we’ve been renovating and redecorating our home and I can just imagine others doing the same for theirs or even they’re summer homes. Today I am showing off some Lake House inspiration:
When I think lake house, I think wood, rope, burlap, and blue!
A room with a view is a must have. Doesn’t matter if it’s a bedroom, sunroom, kitchen, living space, as long as it has a view!
dustjacket attic: Interiors | Lake House
I love little touches of water life and the wrought iron makes me think of lighthouses!
Cozy rooms and bunk beds are definitely a must have in a summer lake house!
A simple cottage kitchen would be a lovely getaway space.
What are your must haves for a lake house?

  • Oh so glamorous and elegant interiors in white

Oh so glamorous and elegant interiors in white

I am super excited about this post because I always have, and I think always will, have a soft spot for white interiors.  Having a room based in white is great by itself, and it’s great for those who are afraid of color, because it lets you experiment with color in small doses, such as throws, pillows, and other accessories.

Aren’t the windows to die for?  The room could easily go gloomy with all of the dark wood, however, so white furnishings and light and airy fabrics keep it bright.

The dramatic slate gray walls in this SF showhouse really contrast beautifully with the white upholstered chairs.

This dining room has superb bones, and the white and neutral colors let them take center stage.
I think I’d go without the rug though.

I like the painted floors in this room, but I think I’d sill like a rug at my feet when I get out of bed.  The chandelier and furniture is gorgeous.

*swoon…a modern parsons desk, an antique ladder-back chair, a tribal stool..the white netting..what an unexpected but delectable quartet.

What do you think?  Do any of these spaces make your heart skip a beat?
