    Handmaid’s Tale Set

    Whether or not you were a fan of Handmaid’s Tale, the use of color in both costumes and the set are amazing.  The house is perfectly on point for the show as well.  I actually wish I had been able to find better photos from the set, so if these wet your appetite I recommend watching the show just to see the home.

    The commander’s office is very masculine.

    The lighting in the set is also on point as you can see.  It’s dusky and secretive.  Furnishings are traditional which also speak to a major theme of the show.

    The wives wear teal and that is really the only pop of color you see used in the commander’s home.

    The kitchen and dining room are my favorite areas of the home, and probably the rooms you see the most of.

    I wish I could have found better images of the kitchen for you.  The exposed brick is homey but it also has a slightly industrial feel.

    Jennifer Aniston’s Manhattan Brownstone in “Bounty Hunter”

    I wanted to show you what in my opinion was the only decent thing about the 2010 movie “The Bounty Hunter.” Sorry to anyone who liked it, but I felt that this was one of those films studios just release to meet a quota or something…

    The only part of the movie I really paid attention to were the scenes that took place in Nicole’s (Aniston) Manhattan brownstone. I didn’t think an investigative reporter could afford a Manhattan brownstone, but hey, if Carrie Bradshaw could afford that spacious Upper East Side “studio,” an investigative reporter can afford a whole brownstone I guess. ?

    Anyway the character’s home is super bright, cute, and cheerful. Maybe a teensy bit too “whimsical” for my taste at times, but definitely worth a close look (hint: if you click on the images a larger version will pop up)

    The kitchen obviously.  The cabinet backs painted to match the blue walls was something I haven’t seen before.

    The home is covered in really cute wallpaper that manages to be quiet but noticeable.

    A LOT of pattern in both upholstery and wall paper, a bit too much for me, but it’s really fun to look at.

    Love those sconces, and the modern bookshelf against the crown moulding.

    With the curtains this is too much pattern for me.  If they were just white I’d like it better.  I thought it was interesting that the couch is slipcovered.  It makes me wonder if that was a conscience decision by the designer or if they were like, “This character would put a slipcover on her sofa…”

    Victory Ford’s casual chic apartment in Lipstick Jungle

    I don’t know if you guys remember the show Lipstick Jungle from a few years back.  It was written by the same author of Sex and the City, but Lipstick Jungle only ran for two seasons I think.  I watched it on DVD awhile ago with some girlfriends and my favorite part of the show was the character Victory Ford’s apartment.  They changed it a bit throughout the show, but it was always a pretty and chic space.

    This shot is the apartment in the second episode.  Notice the green room behind them, and the blue room behind that one.  In following episodes, the green room becomes the kitchen, painted light blue, and the room behind that one becomes Victory’s design studio (she’s a fashion designer in the show).

    I really love the colors in the apartment.  There are a lot of combinations I would never think of, but once you see them you’re like…”wow – that really works!”

    Victory is now in the kitchen, which used to be the green room that you see in the first image.

     More of the living room..the two shots above were “night time” shots, so I had to really up the brightness so you can see details.

    Some detail shots.  I think they subdued the purple in the living room after the first episode.

    The enchanting victorian home in Practical Magic

    I own the movie Practical Magic, I like the story, but mostly THE HOUSE.  If you haven’t seen it, these pics will convince you to grab a copy and watch it ASAP. The house is truly magical.

    The house, which was actually built on a platform because the site is a protected Indian burial ground, and no digging is allowed. The house is empty on the inside, and was taken down after filming. The interior was all sets in LA. Though the book takes place in New England, the house was built in San Juan Park in Washington, where the weather is better for filming.

    Along with the attic, my favorite room is the conservatory, with all the herbs and glass vessels.
