Beach House Decorating Ideas and Inspiration

Yay!  Our much awaited OBX vacation is almost here.   And after spending this past year working and taking care of a 3-year-old and baby, I really, really need a vacation.

How does a week at the beach house or at the lake house sound to you?  I wouldn’t need anything this fancy to get my fix, but it is beautiful.

Warm sea air and ocean breezes on this beautiful porch would be an amazing way to spend the evening.

A beach house should be bright, open, and airy.  To better integrate it into the beach setting, opt for natural materials like sisal and jute.  White and blue is a fresh clean palette the makes a not to the ocean.

At this beach house a neutral palette with pops of orange make the space more energized.

Notice a trend? A lot of beach houses use a lot of white, and slipcovered furniture makes for easy sand removal!

Even in the bedroom we find natural elements in the form of a sisal rug.  The decorative pillows remind me of the colors of shells.

Daybeds are a great idea for beach house decorating.  I love the freedom to nap or read whenever I want on vacation.

This beach house bedroom is light and airy.  The linen curtains allow ocean breezes through the space.

This kitchen is amazing.  I like that the island is a different color than the cabinets, it really warms up the space.  The pale blue subway tile backsplash is amazing too!

Unfortunately we don’t have a beach house, we aren’t even looking at beach house rentals this year, and we don’t even have a vacation planned.  And after spending this past year working and taking care of baby, I really, really need a vacation.  So for now, I will just have to settle for beach house eye candy.

    Warm, understated elegance

These spaces combine elegance and sophistication with warmth and homeyness.  Not easy to achieve, but so gorgeous.

    Lake House Inspiration

It’s the beginning of vacation time! The sun is finally out and getting some time off to enjoy it is everyone’s goal. As you know we’ve been renovating and redecorating our home and I can just imagine others doing the same for theirs or even they’re summer homes. Today I am showing off some Lake House inspiration:
When I think lake house, I think wood, rope, burlap, and blue!
A room with a view is a must have. Doesn’t matter if it’s a bedroom, sunroom, kitchen, living space, as long as it has a view!

I love little touches of water life and the wrought iron makes me think of lighthouses!
Cozy rooms and bunk beds are definitely a must have in a summer lake house!
A simple cottage kitchen would be a lovely getaway space.
What are your must haves for a lake house?

The fairy tale beautiful Lake Como, Italy

Lake Como was our final destination in Italy last summer before heading to Switzerland. The pictures speak for themselves to the beauty of this one-of-a-kind playground for the lucky people who get to call Lake Como home -or one of their homes…

A little about Lake Como, courtesy of Wikipedia
“Lake Como has been a popular retreat for aristocrats and wealthy people since Roman times, and a very popular tourist attraction with many artistic and cultural gems. It has many villas and palaces (such as Villa Olmo, Villa Serbelloni and Villa Carlotta). Currently, many celebrities have or had homes on the shores of Lake Como, such as Matthew Bellamy, Madonna, George Clooney,[2] Gianni Versace, Ronaldinho, Sylvester Stallone, Richard Branson, and Ben Spies. Lake Como is widely regarded as being one of the most beautiful lakes in Italy.”

    just a humble lake house…

Pictures don’t do the grand villas justice

A view of the mountain tops from the ferry we took to tour the lake.

…just the local swimming hole. I steered clear of the water because in 2007 the bacteria levels in the water were deemed too high for safe swimming.
