The first step to re-organizing your walk-in closet is to clean it out. Remove everything from it and give it a thorough wipe down. Vacuum your floors and the cozy corners where dirt and dust are likely to amass.

My plans to completely organize my home, nay, my entire property from top to bottom this year is still in the works, just going much slower than I hoped. I’m blaming it on my 4 month old and 2 year old son. And my day job. Once thing I am doing to try to continue to keep the ball rolling is researching ideas. Below are some great ideas I found:

Jane Stoller’s book Organizing for Your Lifestyle: Adaptable Inspirations from Socks to Suitcases will be the book for you. While she sings many praises of Kondo, Jane’s ideas, tips, and methods are truly a breath of fresh air, and most importantly – attainable! I also loved that the book read like a chatty conversation between girlfriends.

My favorite section of the book is on caring for your clothing and closet organization tips (turns out I was wrong about what should be folded and what should be hung!). So, in honor of that section I found a lot of closet organization eye candy.

Tiffani Thiessen’s inviting modern Tudor home

I love how Tiffani managed to blend the clean lines of modern design while honoring the traditional bones of her 1923 Tudor home. See below in the house tour:

The kitchen is what originally caught my attention. It looks like a chef’s dream. And unknown to me, Tiffani actually has a show on the cooking channel called Dinner at Tiffani’s The wall of windows and white cabinetry was all custom. The counters are Silestone.

Love the mix of modern furniture with stained glass and woodwork from the 1920s. What do you think of the dark ceiling?

Look for storage in unexpected places! A chest or a shelf under the stairs would be a great place for shoes. Especially if it’s close to the door. They are more likely to be put away and less dirt tracked around the house.
