Beautiful and clever small closet ideas

In older homes and small apartments it’s hard to find great storage and closet space solutions. Don’t let the words wardrobe and armoire scare you though! There are some seriously great designs to choose from that give you the storage you need.

When it comes to hanging your clothing, if your space is lacking a built-in closet, a stand-in wardrobe can be just as effective. By adding in shelving, baskets, shoe racks, drawer units and even pin-boards for outfit inspiration, you have a custom closet solution tailored to your personal needs.

There are simple, modern, sleek ones that let you close all the doors and not notice any clutter. Most of these have great options for how you can stack and shelve things as well!

Don’t neglect small accessories – they need a designated place too. Having these guys piled up in a corner or shelf can really make or break the feeling of chaos.  Clear acrylic boxes or no-frills baskets are a good way to organize small items if you don’t have a drawer.

Your walls are your best friends when you live small.  Hang as much up as you can and save precious surface, drawer, and rail space for items that can’t go on walls.

A simple traditional look with more storage necessities than you could ask for! Although this lacks hanging space it can be a great addition to a small closet, or a place to organize craft supplies. Check Plumbworld’s article if you need more space in a bathroom.

    A Touch of Wicker

There are certain southern styles that I adore. Barn doors, throw pillows, blankets, and baskets are just a few that you could find in my home. But I wicker never really struck a cord with me. I love the look of wicker furniture out on a porch, but I am surprised at how much I like the look indoors!

    Fresh Flowers, Books, and Candles

One of my favorite things about decorating a home is the little touches that go on table tops. I like to keep it simple and stick with similar decorations throughout the house that vary just a little.
Fresh flowers are my favorite. They can be changed out during the season, kept neutral, or add a touch of color to a room.
For larger tables, a simple runner with a vase of flowers is beautiful!
Books are amazing! You can choose them by color and design or just put out some of the ones that mean the most to you!

  • Make Do with A Small Closet

Make Do with A Small Closet

Most of us dream of large walk in closets with plenty of hang up space, storage, places for our shoes and bags. In reality, we mostly live with small closets! Here’s a few tips to help you make do with that small closet and keep on loving that home you live in.
How to Build a Closet to Give You More Storage. She makes it look easy (and I love the closet organizer):
Never doubt the power of a built in. Utilizing a storage space in between hang up can also help the floor clutter! It can define separate spaces for shirts, pants, and dresses and also give you some much needed drawers.
Get out all the unnecessary junk from the closet! If it’s not clothing related get it out! If you have spot to put jackets and shoes, don’t put shoes in your closet. If you can find a different place to put bags and belts, get them out too! Limit what you put in there.
Most under the bed solutions are not suitable for every day use and are not the best at storing things either! This one may change your mind. Easy to get to, on wheels so you can pull it out, and drawers for wonderful storage solutions!
Keep it clean. If you buy a new outfit, consider putting an older one you haven’t worn away. Keeping your closet less cluttered will make you love it more!
Look for storage in unexpected places! A chest or a shelf under the stairs would be a great place for shoes. Especially if it’s close to the door. They are more likely to be put away and less dirt tracked around the house.

Having a defined area to fold laundry is something I personally love! It’s also nice for storing things that you use constantly like laundry soap.
Having a place to hang up your clothes as soon as you pull them out of they dryer is nice! Having a hanging area that doesn’t take up much space is even better!
Keeping laundry storage clutter free is not easy. Baskets are a great idea to hide all the clutter but keep everything easily accessible.

  • Adding the finishing touches to our newly renovated space

Adding the finishing touches to our newly renovated space

Our house is almost done. so close…. and baby is due in 3 weeks.  Hubby has been working tirelessly for four months now to make our house our home.  I don’t even begin to know how to thank him!  And now the fun part begins – decorating! While we do have many pieces we are going to keep, there are some things we need.  I’ve been scouring flash sale sites to try and get good stuff at a good price, but you have to check often and move fast – which can be tough if you’re undecided.  Here’s what I’ve found today that would look gorgeous in our space:

Now that we have a breakfast bar – we need stools.  These would be a great contrast to our white upholstered dining chairs.

We just bought a gorgeous silvery taupe sectional, and this color would be so great with it!

Two large baskets are needed by both doors for shoes.  We don’t have room for any entry way furniture like a shoe cabinet, and I will never train hubby to put his shoes in the closet.

Calling all organization junkies: Making the most of small closets

Our house has a fair amount of small closets, but we lost one in the renovation, so now we have to be even more organized in the closets that we have.  So, I’ve been gathering up ideas and inspiration for how to make the most of what we have.

The secret seems to be bins and compartments designated for like items.

We will definitely be utilizing the back of doors, so I really had my eyes peeled to see how people utilized their own.

Maybe not as aesthetically pleasing, but clear bins can help you spot things more quickly.

Shelf dividers make it easier to grab items as opposed to pulling something from the bottom of a tall stack.

Little people have little things, so smaller bins will help keep little socks and hats in order.  You could also add another rod between the top one since their clothing is not as long as adults’
