It’s nothing new that we are spending more time in our homes than ever. Due to social distancing, working from home, and quarantining because of COVID we are out and about less. It also makes sense that with all of this time spent in our home, we want to make our abodes as beautiful and as comfortable as possible. This means it’s time to make some luxury upgrades for your home! For some of us this might be easier than others. Between watching my kiddos the first half of the day and then working the second half, I can barely keep up basic home-keeping.
Some of you might have a little more time on your hands after working for the day. You no longer have to slog through a commute or other activity that would normally keep you out of the house. If this is the case, be grateful! Read below for a few tips on how to make your small or average-sized home feel like a little slice of luxury-living.

1. Create a grand entrance
You know the saying about first impressions right? Well homes are no different than people in this respect. Creating a beautiful entrance to your home will make you feel like an VIP every time you step in and out. Even just to fetch your mail! It also makes you feel like your home is being well kept and maintained. Even if the back flower beds might be overcome with weeds. And there is no need to adorn your steps with ornate glass railings like those from glassrailings.ca (unless you want to!). Potted plants on the front steps or small statues are easier and more affordable to swap out with the seasons or holidays.
2. Add a statement piece in your bathroom
When selling our first home I remember being told “kitchens and bathrooms sell homes.” Even if you aren’t looking to sell, this philosophy can really improve your day-to-day satisfaction with your home. Now, I’m not saying you need to install a top of the line indoor pool and solar water heater for pool . Though let’s be honest, how amazing would that be? Depending on your budget this can be something as small as using something decadent and unexpected for your sink, like an urn. Or spend a little bit more money and buy that bathtub you’ve been dreaming about. After all, less time going out to happy hours after work means more time for long soaks in the tub.

3. Make a bed fit for royals
This tip is one I’ve really been wanting to do for myself for a long time. I just need to commit. Scour your normal inspirational sources for beds. Then, compile a list of what you consider to be the most beautiful beds. Once you are set on your favorite look and feel of your dream bed, go to work! Source the materials that will make your bed absolute heaven. Euro pillows? A pillow top mattress pad? Silk pillowcases (yes please!) Once you do this you might find you want to do this in your kid’s rooms, the guest room, a live in companion room, the inlaw suite, you name it!
