Some eye candy that is guaranteed to brighten up your Monday…

Friday I flew back to the states from Spain and it is good to be back. I forgot how green everything can be in Maryland this time of year, and it’s absolutely beautiful (and allergy inducing).

Regardless I still spent most of this weekend outside, just soaking in all the spring growth and chirping birds. I think these pics embody the season and the desire to be outside –

could easily spend all day reading in this little nook

I would be happy in this little cottage…hopefully there is a sandy beach right behind it…

so pretty!  I love paths and lanes lined with trees

So, tomorrow morning I am flying back to the states after living/working in Spain for the last 4 months, so I won’t be posting — have a great weekend!

Tired of the same old? Home accessories with modern and clever design!

So, I try not to bombard you guys with too much sale info, but some of them I think would be just cruel not to share. If you are into modern unique design, or know someone who is – share this with them…

This very cool stuff is on sale, but you have to sign up before you can shop (don’t worry it’s free to sign up) I have an invite link for you… www.ideeli.com/invite/decorology

lightweight, but beautiful pin-up picture frames

I really want one of these mirrors…great to put by the door to get a final look at yourself, and it can hold your keys, phone, etc.

These “vases” slip over a wine bottle to make it more beautiful

A peak inside the home of Shabby Chic’s Rachel Ashwell

In the Aug/Sep 2010 issue of Lonny Mag they gave us a sneak peak of Ashwell’s London flat. The flat came furnished and she kept all the furniture, just converting it to her needs as opposed to buying new furniture.

I think that coffee table is an old door!

I want that rug…

Rachel’s decorating rules. (click on the image for a bigger view)

From her new store in London

So…I’m a little embarrassed to admit that I did not know until I read the article that Shabby Chic filed for bankruptcy in 2009. Since then, Rachel has come back with products that address the new style of cleaner lines and less “fluff,” as opposed to the chintz and flowy slipcovers she’s famous for. What do you think? Do you think Rachel can adapt to the changing times with her new line? Were you sad to see Shabby Chic go or were you over it??

Venice: the famous attractions, but also the true beauty- intimate canals and charming old facades

Venice needs no introductions. This summer was my second time in Venice. The first time I went it was winter and we only had time to see the main attractions, so I left feeling unsatisfied. In my humble opinion the real beauty of Venice is in the residential areas – narrow canals, 1 person wide bridges, and laundry hanging over the canal to dry. I’m still going to show you the famous sites, but the last images are where I found the charm.

The one and only Grand Canal

St. Mark’s square. A place where people try to touch pigeons they would otherwise find disgusting. Unfortunately Basilica San Marco was covered in scaffolding at the time we were there, so I’m including a picture from my fist visit below.

Souvenir shops abound

Street parking can be hard to find

The bridge is the famous Ponte di Rialto, which was so packed when we arrived that we could barely walk. If you don’t like crowds or tourist traps don’t linger here.

On the larger, commercial canals you can find beautiful and varying architecture

Gorgeous!

Now for my favorite parts of Venice – heading into the narrower canals

The facades on the back streets show wear, but combined with the lovingly tended flower boxes and laundry hung out to dry it creates a charming scene of life in Venice.

Sunset over a canal.

Have any of you been to Venice? What was your favorite aspect?

Bathroom love – lavish and luxe

Right now I have been sharing a teeny, tiny bathroom with 5 other people while living with my boyfriend in Spain (we live with two other couples). I’m heading back to the states on Friday, where I will stay with my parents until my boyfriend and I go apartment hunting in DC in August. My parents just beautifully renovated their bathroom and I can’t wait to go back to using that one for a little while!

This tub looks so wonderfully deep – and the chandelier above it is a great idea…

I don’t know if I’ve ever seen a tub positioned in a corner like that, but I love the view from the windows and the blue on the wall

Maybe one day…home offices I only dream about…

Some of you might of caught on that when I’m a bit stressed out or have a looming deadline, that I go a little home office “crazy.” As a freelancer working from home, however, it’s sooooo vital to have a space set up in a way to keep you focused, efficient, and to foster creativity.

Once I settle down and am no longer so transient – I’m determined to have a home office closer to one of these beauties…

Okay. This, to me, is home office PERFECTION. Okay – just add a settee or comfy reading chair and you have the office of my dreams. Two separate work surfaces, (a desk and a table), an abundance of area to pin up inspiration, a generous bookcase, and great light. *sigh…one day.

*Deep breath – dreamy and serene spaces to inspire peace

I have the biggest deadline of all time looming on what is my biggest project of all time as a freelance web designer – so I’m a bit stressed.
