Fabulous living rooms for every mood and taste

I’m not sure what you’d call the two styles above — modern eclectic? But I’m liking this style more and more these days. Since things don’t “match” you can use items you already have instead of buying new ones.

This living room – pictured above and below – is so unusual and luxe.  I ADORE the white media console and the huge white mirror…stunning

An otherwise dark and broody “club” like living room is brightened up by an interesting array of mirrors.

  • A peak inside the home of Shabby Chic’s Rachel Ashwell

A peak inside the home of Shabby Chic’s Rachel Ashwell

In the Aug/Sep 2010 issue of Lonny Mag they gave us a sneak peak of Ashwell’s London flat. The flat came furnished and she kept all the furniture, just converting it to her needs as opposed to buying new furniture.

I think that coffee table is an old door!

    I want that rug…

From her new store in London

So…I’m a little embarrassed to admit that I did not know until I read the article that Shabby Chic filed for bankruptcy in 2009. Since then, Rachel has come back with products that address the new style of cleaner lines and less “fluff,” as opposed to the chintz and flowy slipcovers she’s famous for. What do you think? Do you think Rachel can adapt to the changing times with her new line? Were you sad to see Shabby Chic go or were you over it??

  • A super easy DIY that makes a great Mother’s Day gift

A super easy DIY that makes a great Mother’s Day gift

The new home networking site – Link My Home, was awesome enough to publish my post today on turning a Mason jar into a soap pump. Link My Home connects home owners globally to chat, share inspiration, and buy/sell – check it out.

Below is my post and DIY

Decorology DIY: Turn a Mason jar into a charming soap pump – A great Mother’s Day gift too!

    via Country Living

I’m far from the first one to present this idea, but it’s really great and perhaps some of you out there have yet to discover it. All you need is a soap dispenser pump (reuse one from your last soap bottle or purchase one from a supplier like onedreamdesign.com), a mason jar, and the jar’s lid. It is also helpful to have a drill, as you will need to create a hole about half and inch wide to accommodate the soap pump. Other supplies you may want to have on hand include scissors, a marker to mark where you will drill the hole, and some 2 part epoxy to seal the cap of the soap pump to the jar of the lid.

    (via Apartment Therapy)

    Directions:

    1. Use marker to measure and mark a circle in the lid of the mason jar the width of you soap dispenser pump
    2. Drill hole where you marked in lid of mason jar
    3. Mix epoxy and apply to the lower rim of the soap dispenser pump
    4. Insert the pump dispenser through the jar lid (if the tube is too long for the jar, just snip it to size with some scissors)

    5. Let the epoxy dry according to the instructions
    7. Fill with your favorite liquid soap – and enjoy!

Here are some examples of what you can create:

If you don’t have a Mason jar they are pretty easy to find at thrift stores.

So cute right? I think I’ll be making a couple for my mom for Mother’s Day!

    O M G – Best house tour ever!

I don’t know how to make your Monday better, because if this house tour doesn’t leave you high off the beauty I don’t know what will. It is simply gorgeous.

The house is registered for film and photo shoots – so no one actually lives here. Still, it’s beautifully done. Seriously, I would consider giving my left hand for this house. And I’m left handed.

Sheryl Crow’s 1926 Spanish Colonial hacienda in Hollywood Hills

Usually I hear “Hollywood Hills” and I think, not really my style, but 1926 Spanish Colonial sounded nice, so I decided to take a peak at Architectural Digest’s tour of Sheryl Crow’s LA estate. I was really impressed, not just with the historic home, but with the property itself.

Love the arched doorways and that antique coffee table.

    Original tile on the steps.

Original sink and tile in the bathroom, the rug is a nice touch too.

    Isn’t the landscaping great?

Happy weekend! An eclectic San Francisco house tour!

I’m sure some of you are familiar with Victoria from SFGirlByBay, her lovely blog. Her style is a blend of eclectic, modern retro, and vintage. See below.

By the way, this house tour comes to you from a great new online mag called Rue – check it out!

A Divine house tour mixing elegance, peacefulness, livability, and vintage elements

These rooms blend so many nice elements and styles. Even though the feeling is luxury – I also get a sense of peacefulness. The colors are muted but not monotone.

What a great style mix – the tufted sofa with the retro dining set.

The bedroom has a rustic, country feel

The below are actually from another home I think..

    Great table…

I’m usually not a fan of something so modern as this bedroom, but the simple lines and clean design work really well in a bedroom.

    LOVE that window!

  • As promised – another beautiful book giveaway!

As promised – another beautiful book giveaway!

Lucky you guys! I’m reviewing two amazing books recently released by Country Living, Restore. Recycle. Repurpose and Aged to Perfection And one of you will win Aged to Perfection! All you have to do for your chance to win is leave a comment on this post. The chance to enter ends on 12/16, at 5PM EST. I will draw a winner at random and announce the results the next day.

PLEASE leave a way to contact you on your comment-an email address will work, or link your name with a way to contact you.

So, here are some lovely pics from Aged to Perfection which one of you will win. This book is great for the shabby chic and wabi sabi enthusiast. It features many white interiors, wonderful patinas, antiqued linens, and creative texture combination ideas.

The back jacket reads “Create a New ‘Old’ House. New houses offer modern conveniences, spacious rooms, and efficient infrastructures. Yet they often lack the charm that makes older homes so much more appealing. Now, through hundreds of photographs, ideas, and tips, Aged to Perfection shows how easy it is to give any contemporary home a gracious, rustic feeling.”

I adore this living room! Unfortunately my dogs think that they’re doing me a favor by letting me sit on “their” couch, and this couch would not be white very long.

    Love this chest of drawers.

What a great collection of canisters.

    One of the dreamiest bathrooms
Aged to Perfection can be purchased here on Amazon.

The second book is Restore, Recycle, Repurpose. Here’s a description: “

Renovation that’s eco-friendly…AND economically smart. From Country Living contributing editor Randy Florke (Your House, Your Home) comes a gorgeous guide to decorating sustainably and inexpensively. Providing inspiration as well as instruction, Florke shows how everyone can achieve a look that’s both harmonious with the environment and beautiful.

Color photographs show examples of rooms, all radiating country charm, created on a budget, and designed with the three “R”s in mind: restore, reuse, and repurpose. Florke clearly explains why going green is so important, how to use what’s already there, find a focus for every space, and determine what makes something environmentally friendly. Anyone hoping to transform a home from ordinary to extraordinary will find eco-friendly, thrifty, and stylish ideas.” via Amazon

I can’t get enough of the couch upholstery – the pattern is illustrations of old furniture. You can click on the photo for a closer look.

A good mix of patterns is achieved here through a unified color scheme.

This book also has a great section in the back full of green and eco resources. It can be purchased here on Amazon.

Comment away for your chance to win!

disclosure: I received these books as a sample
