  • Mixing Pastels and Brights

    Mixing Pastels and Brights

Usually when you plan out a room you know what color scheme you are looking for and if you are going for a more subtle look or a bold look. What if you wanted both?
I’m seeing a lot of pastels mixed with pops of color on my instagram feed and I am loving it!
Lovely colorful breakfast/ dining in the kitchen! Pastel blue banquette seating, Saarinen inspired table and blue painted chairs with a pop of brights in the art and light.:
The fun part about using accent pieces is that if you change your mind later, you can grab a few new pillows or a painting and have a completely different room.
Love how textures and prints are combined here, especially on the sofa - so many accents, but great together. apartment of Swedish designer Elina Dahl:
It is so fun when two unexpected things come together to make something so unique and beautiful.
This is my dream Lounge room, from the Mozi Cockatoo Lamp, Deer Heads and the Horse Canvas, everything just works, it's chic, and a bit kitsch. Just the right amount of colour, pattern and texture. ~Sarah Cockatoo lamp. I want one!:

  • Make Your Home Yours!

Certain days I like to say goodbye to what’s trending and hello to what my heart desires.
When it comes to home decor, most of us follow the trends and that’s fine, but it doesn’t hurt to do some digging around and find something that truly suits you.
    //:
When you pick home decor based on what moves you and brings you joy, you’d be amazed at how a space can come together and create something beautiful out of something so unexpected.

  • Chairs that have caught my eye!

Chairs that have caught my eye!

I don’t know what it is about chairs, but they seem to catch my eye! I feel like they are an easy thing to switch out and although some are quite pricey, you can find great ones in any budget. They can create a cozy environment, add extra seating, or just give the room something special.
There’s something about a unique chair that gets me every time.
Even if it’s a chair that’s meant to not be seen! It adds a little something extra to the room.
They can be bold and make a statement.
Or tuck inside a special space, but still be beautifully designed.
Almost every room can use a chair. You can’t say that for most items in each room of your house!
What kind of chairs do you love the most?
  • Buying Handmade

    Buying Handmade

These days it’s all about buying handmade and supporting the small businesses. I absolutely love it and enjoy finding unique home decor items to fit my home.

There are so many reasons why I would choose handmade over store bought. It is truly one of a kind because it’s not mass produced, each item is completely unique.
But even better than that is knowing that you are supporting someone who has dedicated their lives to making these beautiful unique things.
I recently was introduced to this beautiful group of artists called Ephraim Pottery who brought all of their skills together to create these beautiful works of art.
“We are motivated by ideals from the past that have taken on new significance in our modern world. We see a return to working together/collaboration; hand-crafting beautiful objects that have longevity; and taking notice of the small details in the natural world as lifestyle values that have important implications for the ways we live now and in the future.” – Ephraim Pottery
Seeing a group of artists coming together and providing each of their best skills to create a piece of art that brings joy really resonates with me.
Let’s keep this movement on the rise and take the time to appreciate the handmade community who are changing the way we buy art and home decor. Check out Ephraim Pottery to find all the pieces pictured above and learn more about the artists and what they do.

  • A little texture can go a long way!

A little texture can go a long way!

You may hear designers talk about texture as one aspect that really makes or breaks a room. Visual texture, when done correctly, can transform a simple room into a unique eye catching space.
The brick walls, with wood floors, a comfy couch, and a woven rug all give you different textures that combined well together. Each one touches your senses in a different way but when brought together can create a truly unique feel.
Mixing wood, tile, and granite really makes this room feel that nostalgic sense of home with a modern twist of luxury.
There’s something so unique about wood grain and mixing that with painted cabinets, glass, and stone really makes each item stand out!
Texture doesn’t always have to come from major home upgrades. It can be as simple as adding wood to an already great cabinet and pairing it with wicker baskets and a fun rug.
How do you use texture in your home?
  • Not Your Traditional Nightstands!

    Not Your Traditional Nightstands!

Sometimes using an item that’s not originally for it’s intend can be a great surprise and fun feature to your room! I’ve found a few alternatives to use for your nightstand that you might find inspiring. Take a look around your home now, I bet you could find a few pieces you already own that would make a great nightstand:

Wooden crates are not something new, but I love how they incorporated a light in it and made the boxes able to turn. This piece is definitely makes a statement!

A trash can turned upside down. Simple and Genius.
Reusing cinder blocks to create a nightstand is pretty brilliant!
Making your own nightsand out of something you might have lying around the house. This is seriously creative and a great way to hide clutter in the suitcase itself!!
Who would have thought to use a barrel as a nightstand? I love the spray painted black, you could do so many things with a barrel.
Cutting a table in half? It’s the perfect way to make an interesting nightstand out of something that you may already have.
  • High Point Global Views for the Holiday Season

High Point is bringing you great finds from Global Views to add to your home that just premiered this fall! Touches of ink blue and camel with the copper are the perfect way to warm up your home for the coming season.

Here is an interview with Erin Davis Smithson of the Global Views product design and development team about the items we featured here:

“These droplet jars are modern, versatile and perfect for any room. You can make a fun terrarium in them, hold your bath soaps or keep kitchen essentials encapsulated in Style. Inspired by 1960’s genie jars, the clear glass version makes them fun and functional for today.”

Inspired by a cuff bracelet, the copper finish makes this truly jewelry for your home. Copper is on trend for this season, but timeless for any interior. The scratched texture makes it unique. The side table is more versatile being smaller and can add the whimsy to many rooms as a side table or put out in multiples for a larger seating group. The Cuff Cocktail Table also comes in silvery-white nickel finish, pictured below.”

“The Bezel border rug pattern is inspired by an early 20th century air vent register. Menswear inspired color story, the Orange and ink blue update the rug for today. Available in many sizes, you can have this sophisticated rug in any room.”

You can find all of these pieces at a Global Views retailer near you! Which one is your favorite?

  • Smart Home Designs

Upgrading your home has always been a toss on whether you want to do something just for the joy of having it done the way you always wanted it to and what has the best resale value. These days it seems like many of us don’t stay in one place very long so it doesn’t seem smart to invest much into it when you won’t be able to enjoy it for what it’s worth.

Here are a few home designs for those of you who are like me, and plan on being around for a while! Why not enjoy it?

  • Charming chairs chosen for form and function

Charming chairs chosen for form and function

Finding the perfect chair may not seem as easy as picking from modern or traditional! I love chairs not only for there intended function but because of the cool sculptural quality some of them have. There are some seriously unique designs coming out of the wood works to make your space one of a kind.

Instead of decorating your room and adding chairs in, think twice about using your chairs for the decorative pieces. These tall gorgeous chairs are a VIP in what makes this room so gorgeous…

If you are using it in a small space and don’t want the chair to be overwhelming, choosing a piece that has cut-outs or isn’t one big solid block won’t add too much visual weight, and won’t clutter up the appearance of space. This wire chair also looks pretty interesting too… Finding unique chairs isn’t always easy, but taking the time to search through the right stores can help you find that perfect piece. Of course, chairs can be pricey, but more and more manufacturers are making nice options that allow you to buy more than one!

Looking for something to go with a piece you already have but not blend in? This curvy chair matches the same theme of wood with black sleek lines but it definitely stands out on it’s own making it feel unique and gorgeous.
Maybe comfort is more your thing. You can find a really comfy chair that doesn’t scream granddad’s recliner. This one of a kind looks super cozy but is also really chic.  I could definitely get a lot of work done in that chair – and stay warm too!

If you are looking to mix and match, finding similar color or height chairs is a great way to keep the look of the room cohesive but still let your good eye for style and love of chair design shine.
