    Home Decor Provincial Style

Home décor is becoming a passion for everyone, especially women, these days. Everyone wants to be unique in his/her own manner. One wants its home to be classy, elegant and set in a pure decent style. To set up a dream house for themselves, people are following latest trends and fashions. Provincial Furniture is in trend from 17th and 18th century. It is elegant, shapely, textured, detailed and boasting an old world charm. These are the characteristics of the beautiful provincial look. Don’t mistake it for an overwhelming, heavily ornamental style. It is not. The genuine Provincial style is all about refinement, diversity and harmony and used as a way to enhance your home décor can make your guests say “oh wow” even in today’s modern era.

Here I would present some unique ideas to decorate your home with provincial furniture.

    • Focus on Details

Do not mess up your décor with detailed fittings and fixtures either. A few eye-catching, accurate ones suit a Provincial style much better than having your home look as ragged out from an historic residence.

    • Keep it Simple and classy

One or two antiquities or distressed painted furniture items used as feature pieces make for a great way to style your home in Provincial charm. The catch is to mix the old with the new and keep it simple not gaudy. An antique provincial Victoria table or chest of drawers next to a modern lounger or a fashionable metal bed is one way of adding appeal without going loud and extravagant.

    • Rustic Touch

If you love the rustic look, it’s easy to add in stuffs made from candid rustic materials into a Provincial-inspired décor. They sit well with the imperfection and quaint nature of this style as it provides room for a little vision if you love a rustic or country impact. Things such as stone, metal and timber can all be introduced. This light fitting, for example, adds colors to the décor without stealing the show. Distressed painted furniture can also make an appearance without causing offense.

    • Pastel and soft colors

When it comes to finding the right colors for your provincial interior, choose a neutral background palette and add splashes of simple, faded colors. Taupe, ivory, sage, grey and other calm descriptions are the way to go. Such a refined color palette is set off beautifully with an ostentatious chandelier is welcome in any room of the house. They will provide relax and calm air to your home. Provincial interiors look best with pastel colors such as peach, lavender, old rose, lilac or periwinkle.

    • Lightings and Accessories

Satisfactory lighting elements are the final touch desired to give provincial feeling to your home. You can use wrought iron brackets, table and wall lamps made of brass or other fleecy metals, crowned with glass or fabrics lampshades. Just as it is the case with colors, simplicity and old romanticism should be highlighted at all time.

To keep a provincial touch in your home, it is necessary to think all do’s and don’ts to keep your home chic, decent and modish.

Modern curtains: change your home’s look with curtains

    Modern Curtains

We all know the impact that window treatments can make in a room.  That being said, you want to make sure the impact is a positive one, and doesn’t take away from the design and aesthetic of your home.  Modern curtains are widely available these days, so finding a solution that beautifully sets off your interior architecture and decor shouldn’t be a problem.  The problem will likely be narrowing down your selection!  With the internet, even high end curtains can be affordable!

Love color?  Keep your foundations (wall color, etc.) neutral, and use curtains, pillows, artwork, and smaller accessories to add pops of your favorite color.  I love the unexpected use of a green curtain panel in this soft pink bedroom.

    More Ideas

Since I love white interiors and natural elements, I adore floor to ceiling white curtains like these.  They lend a sense of unpretentious elegance.  All of the architectural elements are allowed to take center stage because the curtains aren’t overshadowing them.  The black curtain rods help tie in the dark wood beams on the ceiling.

A child’s room or nursery is a place where you can let your hair down a little and really have fun with pattern or color. I absolutely adore these machine embroidered design panels with stars and a cityscape at the base. So cute!

You can also make curtains the focal point in a neutral interior if there is a pattern or color palette that you absolutely love but maybe weren’t able to bring in via wallpaper or a rug.  These roman shades really pop and add life to this elegant but otherwise quiet kitchen. Roman shades are a clean and tailored option if you think curtain panels are too fussy for a particular room or window.

Not only can you get creative with the actual curtains you select, how you hang them is also an opportunity to get creative.  I never would have thought to install a curtain rod over my front door in order to have added privacy from solicitors or nosy neighbors.  The effect is very grand and unique.

How cool are these curtains?  I love the star cut-outs that allow light to come in!  I’m sure kids would especially love these.  I’ve also seen them in black where the cut out is a cityscape.

    Beautiful Staircases

Staircases aren’t usually something one thinks of when thinking “home decorating.”  I thought it might be fun to dedicate an entire post to beautiful staircases and the beauty they can add to your home.  I’ve even found some inspiration for outdoor stairs, which aren’t as popular in the states as maybe external staircases uk, or Italy, and throughout Europe.

Moreover, considering a lot of staircases open to the foyer or entrance of a home, it is well worth considering the design and aesthetics of your staircase in home decorating projects. While spiral staircases aren’t as popular in the states, I saw a lot of them while living in Spain, an unbeknownst to me you can buy staircases online!

Below I’ve posted some staircase inspiration:

    beautiful staircases

How sweet is this white winding staircase?  I love the gray wide paneled floor and entry rug too. This winding staircase also adds some valuable storage space under it, great for adding a small desk or entry console for sorting mail.beautiful staircases

Wow. I would love to have built-in bookcases behind this graceful spiral staircase and a comfy seat for reading by the window. I also love the plants and lantern hanging in the center of the staircase.

    beautiful staircases

Spiral staircases don’t need to be antique and old fashioned.  There are a lot of modern options for staircases available these days, as well as space-saving solutions. I love the contrast this steel spiral staircase creates against the white room.

    beautiful staircases

A balcony garden with a pretty exterior spiral staircase!  This is a clever way to include more greenery in your outdoor space if it is limited.

    beautiful staircases

This winding staircase is truly a work of art.  The architectural details and the care that’s been taken in creating a beautiful curve is amazing.  Everything about it is so artful.  I love the planes of white surface and the interesting windows.

    beautiful staircases

Spiral staircases can really shine in lofts since they’re visible from most areas of the space. I love the eclectic mix in this loft of different furnishings and wood finishes.  The exposed beams and wood-paneled ceiling is gorgeous too!

Have you put thought into your staircase?  If so how do you have it decorated?  Is it an afterthought?  Are you lucky enough to have a staircase that had a lot of architectural details added?  We don’t have a staircase in our home – so I need to live vicariously through people who do!

    Summer Entryways and Foyers

There are your “traditional” elements that no entry or foyer should be without – but shoe storage and a key tray don’t necessarily make an entry way that makes you smile when you walk in the door.  Here are a few elements that do…

    Art with impact.

Entryway inspiration: fabulous entries and hallways

Entryway inspiration and hallway eye candy

We just got a new console for entryway, which was much needed considering I was using a wonky collapsible thing I picked up off someone’s curb a few years ago. So now that our console is in place, I decided to find some inspiring ways to decorate and organize it.

I want our entry console to act as a mail sorting area and a place to keep my purse.

    via West Elm

I think I’d like to have a small light on our console, like you see above.  If you put it on a timer so that it turns on right before you normally get home from work each day, it really makes your home feel welcoming!

white floors, black walls, a statement lighting fixture….I’m in love via Adore Home

I wish we had space for people to sit down and take off their shoes (we are a no-shoes apartment), but for now I’ll just have to keep it in mind for when I do have the space. I also like the large, dramatic piece of art at the end of the hall. It has a really dramatic effect.

Transitional interiors, a marriage of modern and traditional

Transitional interiors are my favorite because of their emphasis on clean lines. I think they also make for a happy marriage of both modern and traditional design.  It isn’t about fluff or frills. Transitional interiors focus more about quality finishes and furniture. That is a philosophy I can get behind!

It’s okay to take a breather.

Also, It’s a battlefield out on the internet these days, and everybody needs a happy place to breathe and decompress.  My happy place includes this eye candy – amazing transitional interiors.

    transitional interiors entryway

This entryway has so much that I love!  Between the dark hardwood floors, the oriental rug, gray walls with wainscoting, tailored drapes, and a velvet settee, I’m hooked. How about you?

Lastly, this shot is from Erin Fetherson’s home (okay, I admit I don’t know who she is).  It looks like such a romantic but sensible place.  Layers of texture gain visual interest in an otherwise staid palette.  How gorgeous is the fireplace?

  • Oh what a rug can do: Space transforming rugs

Oh what a rug can do: Space transforming rugs

I’m not getting tired of seeing the amazing ways designers are incorporating oriental rugs – both antique and modern spins, into homes.  Some trends I get tired of, but this one I can’t get enough of.  Granted, oriental rugs are a classic, so even if they fall out of favor for a little bit, I know they’ll be back.

This antique oriental rug makes this foyer.  The reds add so much warmth while the white furniture and walls keep the entryway fresh.

It’s not often one sees an oriental rug in pink, but isn’t it perfect in this bedroom?  A lot of modern reproductions combine traditional patterns in bright colors.

A small rug still makes an impact but still allows wide plank hardwood floors to take center stage.

Wow.  What an amazing island.  I love the gold fixtures with the warm wood.

Oriental rugs are also great for adding pops of color in white or neutral interiors.

Do you have any oriental rugs in your home?  We have one from Iran in our master bedroom that is perfect against our lavender walls.

  • Why you shouldn’t neglect your hallways

Why you shouldn’t neglect your hallways

It’s not a new idea to utilize your hallways and not let them be wasted space, but some – myself included- are still guilty of this.  Now that the weather is cooling we will be spending more time indoors, therefore freeing up time to show your halls some love.

A lot of the examples below are foyers, but entryways often pose similar design conundrums as halls, and similar solutions.
    via Pinterest

I love that this hallway is so glamorous but gets cheeky with the addition of a giant framed chalkboard.
    via Pic toViral

Our hallway is narrower than this one, no kidding.  Wainscoting and a lovely collection of framed art give this hallway a studied feel.

So, this hallway is all about amazing bones.  The vaulted ceiling is so pretty.  The horizontal shiplap creates a sense of length.
    via ?

I love a round table in the middle of an entry.  It boasts – “hey look at all the space I have!”  It is not a boast I can make.
    via Fresh Designpedia

If you have enough width in your hall to allow it, built-ins or shelves are a great way to display more than art or serve as additional storage.

    Traditional and pretty.

  • Modern Rustic Inspiration

    Modern Rustic Inspiration

Growing up on a farm, I feel at home in a rustic interior.  That being said, I also like interiors that are uncluttered and have very clean lines.  One doesn’t easily find a straight line in nature, so in my eyes blending straight, clean lines with natural organic elements is an art form.  Here are some interiors that I think perfectly blend modern with rustic.

Yes. Dark hardwood floors.  Tons of natural light. Textured wide wood plank ceilings. Sliding barn doors. YES.

via Pinterest via Tidbits and Twine

I think this is Meg Ryan’s kitchen.  Love all of the white and wooden beams.
    via DecorPad

You can also successfully incorporate bright colors in a neutral palette.  I’d personally use the brights as accents or pops of color.
    via Home Adore

Man oh man.  I’d be getting dirty A LOT just to spend more time in this bathroom.  Pepple tile on the floor, copper tub, wide wood plank walls, exposed brick….!!
    via Pinterest via BlogLovin

This bedroom is styled to the hilt but I’m a sucker for a pretty bed.  The headboard brings in texture and an organic sensibility, while the window casings and moldings create a tailored look.

    via Pinterest via HomeEdit

Are my stables just outside to the right?  That’s what I’d expect if this were my foyer. Exposed wood beams, stone floors, a mirrored wall..that amazing neutral and monochrome oriental rug!!
    via DecorPad

Tired of the same old wainscoting and paint and wallpaper?  Consider shiplap or wood plank walls for a unique and rustic look.  The straight diagonals, verticals, and horizontals keep this hall and staircase crisp and clean.

  • We’re loving Greek Revival – see why

We’re loving Greek Revival – see why

Of all the “fancy” styles, Greek Revival is probably my favorite.  Granted, it’s more of an architectural style than an interior decorating style.  I like that while it’s grand, it can also feel very intimate through the use of sumptuous fabrics,  furniture with gorgeous lines, and pattern.

Greek revival is also heavy on moulding, hardwood floors, and well-crafted architectural details, all of which I love.

Natural elements – the green walls and sisal and jute, mixed with formal moulding and casings, are a hallmark of Greek Revival style.
    via Pinterest via Elle Decor

Love the Mediterranean blue on the walls.

    Pinterest via Elle Decor

Colors in Greek Revival tend to be more neutral or washed out since Greek temples have faded interiors, but you’ll also find bright colors that are inspired by nature.

Those chartreuse drapes with the sisal rug? LOVE.
    via Pinterest via Traditional Home

Notice the baseboards and the door casing – so Greek Revival. The old wide plank hardwood floors don’t hurt either!

It’s not uncommon to see painted floors in Greek Revival too, though windows are usually kept simple and drapery is ornate.  I can see why they wanted to keep these windows though!
