    Minimalist Interiors

Sometimes I think we forget that simple can be just as beautiful and well decorated! With things so hectic in my life right now, it’s nice to see such minimalist interiors that are simple and clean.  Spring and summer is also a great time to clear out clutter – so be a little more ruthless when you empty out those closets this season.

This office space really inspires me to clear mine out a bit.  Less “stuff” means less distractions and therefore better focus.

I don’t think minimal has to mean bare, just well edited and thought out.  It also calls more attention to the objects you do display, so they can take center stage.

Minimal also doesn’t need to be white, light, or neutral. It’s all about lines and your ratio of positive and negative space.

It makes me want to pick a room and see what I can do with it to make it as clean and uncluttered as the ones featured here.  Once we get back from our honeymoon – I think I will start with my office!

    Office Inspiration

At times we can get carried away with what we want in our home office. Whether it’s tons of storage or inspiring photo’s all over the wall, it can get a little overwhelming. A simple office space leaves your mind clutter free and ready to create a new masterpiece.

If you are a naturally creative person, you know that most times you don’t need much to be inspired! Sometimes it’s the blank wall that makes our mind imagine what should be there so we can create it.

Maybe the room itself doesn’t even matter. Maybe your view outside the window is what you need to get your brain moving.
Stick to the basic necessities. A chair, a table, a plant, a light, and a calendar may be all you really need.

  • Casual Elegance: Work from the Mandarina Interior Design Studio

It’s been awhile since I’ve landed on a design portfolio from and interior design studio that I’ve wanted to share.  So, I was excited when I found Mandarina Interior Design Studio.  Yes, the images below show these homes on their best, most tidy days, but they serve as beautiful inspiration.

LOVE this, and I try to use love sparingly in posts.  Our master bedroom is painted lavender and has an oriental rug in it, and I really like how the reds and blues pair with the lavender.  These walls are more pink but you still get the same effect between the colors.

Yes, that wallpaper is super cool – but so are the marble tile floors.  Wowza.

Those curtains and blue wall color with that vintage over-dyed rug?  Genius.  And painting the chairs white helps balance the wood tones of the parquet floors, wood fireplace surround, and traditional wood dining table.  I need to be bolder and start using more jewel tones, I tend to play it safe with pastels.

I’m envious of those leaded windows.  The modern Suzani upholstered bench cushion and graphic area rug set off the classic moulding and old wood floors.

Many times I have gotten questions for advise on how to deal with a lot of wood moulding and wainscoting.  Homeowners want to preserve the historic integrity of their home, but also don’t want to feel like they live in a drab outdated home.  This foyer strikes a lovely balance between modern and original by keeping the floors, banisters, and stairs in their traditional wood tones, while painting the wainscoting a fresh white.

I know it’s very unrealistic, but wow I love how clutter-free this place is!  I hate walking in my front door to a pile of mail, shoes in the doorway, and a laptop bag on the floor.  (I doubt my husband is reading this, but just incase)

Soothing lavender is a great color for a bedroom.  Surprisingly, my husband suggested it for ours and we both love it.

Now that I have a baby I’m a sucker for sweet nurseries.  This color is close to the light blue we chose for Leo’s nursery.  The playful pattern of the roman shade is perfect.

The wallpaper in this nursery is so sweet.  Yellow is such a nice, cheerful color for the little ones.

What do you think of these interiors by Mandarina Interior Design Studio?

    Must Haves for My Desk

It doesn’t matter how many times I clean off my desk and try to remove the clutter, there are always some desk must haves that stick around. Here are a few of my essentials to keep me going:

A cute pencil/pen holder is a must have. I need easy access to write or sketch out my thoughts and something simple like this is a perfect match for my desk.

Although I love sticky notes, sometimes the clutter of sticky notes everywhere gets on my last nerves! Having on spot to jot all my notes down is much easier for me, especially when I can close the notebook for the day and have a pretty cover to look at!
With most of my schedule and events kept in google calendar it’s not as necessary for me to have a place to write down what I need to do on a calendar but I love having one to look at just as a reference. I think sometime’s I’d be lost if I didn’t have a calendar staring at me!
    Pretty desk decor
And last but not least, I need something pretty to look at! Since I spend most of my days at my desk, I need it to be a spot that I love to be at. Sometimes it’s a picture, a plant, or even something as simple as a fun lamp. Anything to make me smile while I’m in the middle of working. I always have pictures of the pups in my life on pretty gold frames on my desk. You never know where your inspiration will come from.

The desk itself matters too.  I like a lot of clear surface space.
