    Working from Home

A lot of people ask me how I handle working from home. As you can imagine, it can be very distracting if you aren’t prepared for it! With house chores looking right at you, all your favorite things to do during your down time within eye sight, and no one checking on you to see what you’ve gotten done, it can be a bit overwhelming. Here’s a few tricks I use to stay on track:

    1. Have a dedicated work space.

Even if you are sharing the room with another space, dedicate a wall or a section of it to your work space. You need to have a defined area so when you “step into it” you can be in the work mode and not “see” all the distractions around you.

    2. Get dressed and create a morning routine!

You don’t have to be in fashion, in style, or dressed to the T, but taking a shower and getting out of your jamies can seriously motivating! Also sticking with a morning routine can make you feel ready and prepared for the day.
    3. Set dedicated work hours, and give yourself a real lunch break!

Working off hours can really hurt your body and your routine of working. Overworking can also wear you down and make you less effective at what you are actually doing. Set dedicated work hours and be sure to give yourself a break, just like you would at any out of home job!
    4. Use those extra hours wisely!

If you are like me, clutter and unorganized mess can be seriously distracting. Use the time you’d be commuting during an out of home job to do the cleaning around the house! Get everything set so the next morning is dedicated to your routine and work load.
    5. Have fun with your office space!

Decorate it nicely, keep it organized, and have fun with it! After all, you will be spending most of your time at home here. Why not love it?
  • Make Do with A Small Closet

Make Do with A Small Closet

Most of us dream of large walk in closets with plenty of hang up space, storage, places for our shoes and bags. In reality, we mostly live with small closets! Here’s a few tips to help you make do with that small closet and keep on loving that home you live in.
How to Build a Closet to Give You More Storage. She makes it look easy (and I love the closet organizer):
Never doubt the power of a built in. Utilizing a storage space in between hang up can also help the floor clutter! It can define separate spaces for shirts, pants, and dresses and also give you some much needed drawers.
Get out all the unnecessary junk from the closet! If it’s not clothing related get it out! If you have spot to put jackets and shoes, don’t put shoes in your closet. If you can find a different place to put bags and belts, get them out too! Limit what you put in there.
Most under the bed solutions are not suitable for every day use and are not the best at storing things either! This one may change your mind. Easy to get to, on wheels so you can pull it out, and drawers for wonderful storage solutions!
Keep it clean. If you buy a new outfit, consider putting an older one you haven’t worn away. Keeping your closet less cluttered will make you love it more!
Look for storage in unexpected places! A chest or a shelf under the stairs would be a great place for shoes. Especially if it’s close to the door. They are more likely to be put away and less dirt tracked around the house.

  • Filling in Spaces

    Filling in Spaces

When decorating a home, sometimes there’s a wall that just stumps you. It’s either an awkward size, a really large wall, a corner, or just a space you’d like to give a little more character. Either way, there are a few tricks I use to fill up a space that needs some love:

You can never go wrong with a large wall print, a plant, and a console. Extra storage and something pretty to look at it are my first attempt at filling an empty wall.

Corner’s can be more difficult! A collage of pictures is a great idea, a ladder with blankets, a corner table with a plant, or maybe even a beautiful basket could be a great solution to a corner problem.
For an entry way, I love a bench seat where you can sit down and take off your shoes, and there are some great ways to fill up a wall with DIY wall art that won’t break the bank!
I love the look of shelving as a wall filler on your way or in a kitchen. Using things you already have around the house and fresh flowers is a great filler.

Remember this is a room where you are sleeping, not spending your day!
For a kids room, storage is key! Kids come with a lot of miscellaneous things and a small room doesn’t leave much floor space. Make sure everything has a place.
Add a mirror or a pop of color on one wall. Painting the whole room might make the room feel smaller so limiting it to one wall helps define the space but keep it from feeling closed in.
It won’t be long before you hear yourself saying that a small bedroom isn’t so bad after all!

  • Making Cozy Comfortable

    Making Cozy Comfortable

How can you make a room that’s labeled as “cozy” be comfortable? With minimal space and few options to fill that space, how to make it look like you actually want to spend time in there?
Here are a few tips I have for making that transition from tiny to lovely.
6 Gorgeous Small Bathroom Ideas That Will Have You At Hello!
Take the room you have and add simple touches to make it feel like a home. A plant, a rug, a picture. Start small.
Dedicate space for what you love. We spend so much time making our home look like magazines but if it isn’t what you want in your home or isn’t useful, don’t buy it! Buy what you love and what you need.
Buy smart. One piece of furniture that you love, that fits the room is better than piecing together multiple pieces that may or may not work. Make smart choices that leave you with the best square footage and still comfy.
Be creative. Find pieces that have duel purposes and that provide you with more options, but also add character to the room.
Small spaces can be fabulous, as you’ll see in these tiny balcony garden spots with moods that range from city sophistication to pure Zen.
Keep it clean and fresh. Fresh flowers and clean blankets really can make a difference.

  • Best Flooring Options

    Best Flooring Options

When you consider your flooring options it can be overwhelming on what the right choice is. It’s something you are going to see and step on every day, it’s not always cheap depending on the square footage you have, and in most cases you might worry about the durability!
My suggestions are pretty simple, choose what you love. Find a hue or design that you would be happy waking up to everyday.

Sometimes we put too much into the resale value of our home and never really pick what we would choose if we had no limitations. Fall in love with your wood floors!

Don’t be blindsided – go in with a move able budget. It’s okay to pick where you’d like the price point to be but don’t let that stray you from the best option.

Go with a company that will talk to you in your terms like gohaus! If you have no idea what you are doing looking for flooring, find someone who is willing to explain everything to you the way you need to hear it.
  • A Little Luxury Goes A Long Way

A Little Luxury Goes A Long Way

Taking a room to the next level of luxury isn’t all about high priced items. It’s about making it stand out from the rest and feel glamorous.
Highlighting the great points of your room are key. These lights really stand out and make you look at the height of the room. It helps that they are gorgeous as well.
Although this room looks huge, it’s deceiving. The way it’s painted features the height and the view takes away from the fact that this is an average room size.
Be smart about the materials you choose. Great tile work does not have to be costly. A cheaper version of it can still look like a million bucks.
Looking to take your office up the next notch? Clear out all the clutter and keep it organized. A clean office looks more expensive and taken care of. A fun chandelier wouldn’t hurt either.
Updating a kitchen but don’t have teh budget for all the bells and whistles? Concentrate on the things you’ll notice the most. Cabinetry and counter top! The rest will be fine.
What would you do to make your room more luxurious looking?
