Balancing a simplistic but eclectic style
If you have a tendency to collect beautiful things and want to show them off, that doesn’t mean your home can’t be simplistic as well. Here’s some great inspiration on pairing the two styles together: -
Small Spaces done right
It’s difficult to create a roomy feel when you are limited on square footage. Here are a few examples of different spaces that I think are done well for limited space.A bedroom doesn’t have to be large to be glamorous. You also don’t need a lot in a bedroom to make it a bedroom! A bed and a side table will do just fine since this is a room for sleeping. Keep is simple with a touch of your personality to make it homey.Laundry rooms can be extravagant or simple but making the most of the space you have is what makes it stand out. This simple closet doesn’t look like much but it has everything you need.An office doesn’t require a room, a little nook or corner will do just fine! I love when paint is used to separate a space like this. Keep it simple and clutter free so it doesn’t matter where in the home it is!Closets are so personal. Everyone has different priorities for them and different needs whether it’s shelving, hanging space, or shoe storage! When the closet is small sometimes you can feel limited to how you can design it to fit your needs, but this picture proves that you still can!Sometimes a dinning room room table or a kitchen table aren’t a necessary! If you don’t have a large family, a dinning room might be a waste of space. This kitchen nook is perfect for small spaces and the extra storage on the side is a great bonus.Powder rooms tend to be small, but what do you do if you have a tiny powder room? This one is done so well! With a skinny sink to give youroom to walk and a bold pattern behind the toilet, this space looks well designed even though it’s super small! -
Industrial Eye Candy – using just a dash or go all out
Spring is the time for cleaning out our homes and bringing in new fresh design. It’s all the season of yard sales, festivals, and fairs which can bring some seriously great finds for your home! Here are a few ideas of what you can do with those industrial style finds:
via funkyjunkinteriorsI love the industrial style shelving here, even if you can only find the pipes there are plenty of tutorials on how to create your own shelving with them!
via bhgIt could be something as simple as a light fixture that gives you a little extra in a room or some great baskets to use on open shelving. The great thing about industrial finds is that they are great for mixing and matching. You don’t necessarily need to have an industrial theme in order to make a piece fit into your decor. It can stand on it’s own and look amazing. -
Office Space Eye Candy
Some office eye candy to get through the day. It’s a great idea to make sure you love your work space. It makes being there each day not as daunting! Since I’ve been so overwhelmed with wedding planning keeping my space organized has been really important to my sanity.

Instead of a cork board to serve as a pinboard/inspiration board, clipboards are a great way to organize inspiration by project. Your space is a little more limited on a clipboard, but it also makes your inspiration portable, and keeps your wall space from looking too cluttered (which always happens with my corkboard)

Decorating for the later years
As we grow older, there are many things we need to consider. From what we’ll do with our time, to how we’ll stay fit and healthy, the options at our disposal are endless and that can leave us a little unsure about what to do.In particular, how we approach decorating our homes can be a tricky thing to manage. It may seem relatively unimportant in the grand scheme of things but the appearance of our home can have a profound impact on our attitudes, emotional health and general well being. No one wants to spend their retirement staring at four unsightly walls and here we look at a few tips for decorating your home in your later years.via houseandhomeShelf for successFrom books and ornaments to films and music, you’ll undoubtedly have a lot of need for storage in your home. Wall-mounted shelves should be at an accessible height and not contain anything too heavy. Anything you require regular access too should be stored at a comfortable height on freestanding bookshelves or display units. You can always arrange items by color for something artistic and playful.via toddanderinSpare a thought for cleaning and maintenance of these though. Depending on where you live, you may be able to get some help with this. For example, retirement property for sale from leading firms like McCarthy and Stone offer domestic cleaning services with some of their developments.via shanty2chicGet it framedWhether you’re a proud grandparent who wants to show off pictures of their beautiful grand kids or someone looking to take a trip down memory lane through old photos, it’s important you get them framed. There are many styles to choose from but popular favorites include collage frames which display multiple photos in a large frame or single frames arranged in a symmetrical or eclectic pattern. This set-up can also be applied to artwork as well as to personal photographs.via lolalinaGo minimalistAccessibility is an important buzzword as you age so make sure your decorating takes this into account. Keep walkways clear to prevent the risk of falls and embrace minimalist styles that promote clean layouts and minimal furniture. Combine natural woods with light, neutral colors for a stylish contrast.via bhg -
Necessary Nooks
Everyone needs a spot in their house where they can “get away” from it all. My favorite homes have little nooks and cranny’s where you might not originally know what to do with the space, it may just become the perfect oasis!

Make your tiny bathroom gorgeous AND functional!
I think it’s just my fate to always have a small bathroom. Even the master bathroom in our home is small, even for a regular bathroom…. We make do though, and the best solution I’ve found is to use vertical space to create storage options. We have a cabinet installed over the toilet, and the towel rods are installed on the back of the door. Here is some more inspiration for fellow endurers of small bathrooms. You can find cubbies and shelves in all sizes nowadays, and don’t overlook even the narrowest sliver of wall as a possibility for storage. If you can maintain a clean organized look with your items out in the open, open shelves will be fine. If not, look for cabinets with sliding doors or drawers. If you have a little extra space that you can put in a built in, that’s always the way to go if you can swing it. This space looks especially sophisticated because the crisp lines of the toilet really matches the style of the moulding and shelves.I really like all of the artwork in this bathroom. The shelves our great too – just make sure they aren’t deeper than the toilet tank or it could make visits to it a bit uncomfortable!I wouldn’t use the built-in shelves in this bathroom for books – but the bathroom sure looks cute!LOVE the perfume shelf!
via PinterestMaking use of the storage you already have may be the best solution! adding a shelf to your door and finding the right storage accessories for your under the sink space can add a ton of storage solutions if you are lacking any extra square footage. There are some great accessories at ltdcommodities for storage needs that could really step up your space.Organizing junkies will love these little stick-on bins…myself included! -
Bedroom Storage
You all know how much I love light and beautiful bedrooms. Today I wanted to share with you what I think can be a tough obstacle for a bedroom – storage space.I feel like every time I move, the amount of possessions I have to find space for doubles. It’s important to me that I have a way to tuck some of these things away and hide them so my bedroom can stay clean and serene.
If you’re like me, and can’t afford built-ins, a clever way to “fake” it is to find a piece of furniture that can mimic a built in. The white credenza in this room sits under the window and is white, just like a built in would be if it existed in this room. You can also find a lot of storage solutions that double as decor, like old trunks.
2 above via Covet GardenOne space you never want lacking in storage is the closet! I love built in style closets because they feel so luxe and it makes it really easy to store and find items. Not having enough storage space in a closet results in random boxes on the floor or above where you can’t reach them or end up not using the contents because it’s such a pain to get to them!
via Finsahome.co.uk via PinterestWhen everything has a spot your less likely to keep things you don’t need and it’s going to save so much time in your day not having to “find” all those missing things!via House Beautiful
Keep it simple – sometimes, all you need is a few beautiful baskets to create the storage you need. A guest room may only need a few extra pillows and blankets and baskets can be a beautiful and functional way to fill that need.
Another options is to a bed with built in storage in it! Something like a double storage bed is a great option if you are having trouble finding space to create storage in your room or you just need that extra space.
The built in storage under the bed gives it a more flush and clean look – I personally don’t like to put things under the bed, so it’s a great option if you are like me.. There are plenty of different styles of double storage beds that you can choose from. Some have a similar look to multiple drawers or cubbies you can put fabric bins like under the window seat.
The most important factor is not only that the storage is functional, but that you like it, so sometimes it takes a bit of hunting to find a storage solution you like. You want your bedroom to be relaxing and clutter is the last thing that’s going to achieve that! Find a storage solution that doesn’t distract your eye or take away from much needed rest! -

Help a reader with a decorate a condo-to-sell question! Pretty-please!
I have a tough question for you guys!
“I’m decorating our friends condo that he just purchased…for resale purpose. My decorating style is modern but has to be comfortable, uncluttered especially for resale. He has to tear out the old drywall because Florida had a problem with Chinese drywall. He wants to add architectural detail to the living room before hanging the drywall. What can be done to a typical condo living room to add interest but without closing it off? How can he make his condo look different than the other condos in the complex so that when a buyer walks in it screams, buy me.”This one is tough as I have very little (okay – no experience), with this sort of thing. Below are some ideas I have dug up that I think might work.
A. This would be for after the drywall is rehung, but “Another way to play up (or fake) architectural detailing in a room is with light. It’s a good idea to incorporate a mix of light sources, so if possible, try to bring in overhead lighting as well as floor and table lamps. If you’ve got a focal wall, washing that wall with downlight can add a lot of drama to the room, as can picture lights or lighting installed inside cabinetry. If you can switch out flush-mounted ceiling lights for a pendant or chandelier, do. Adding sconces might require some electrical work, but if you’re able to add the proper wiring, it can be worth the trouble. ” – via ehow (click to read the whole article)
B. “Don’t forget to look up. It’s common to leave ceilings white and paint or paper the walls, and there’s nothing wrong with that. But why not think beyond the walls and brighten up your ceiling with paint or wallpaper? Use the same color as the walls for a seamless look, or try something different; I like a glossy ceiling or a contrasting color or pattern. Depending on the style of your home, metal ceiling tiles can be a great, classic, yet modern look. They come in a range of styles, from simple to more ornate designs.” –via ehow (click to read the whole article) With this tip, remember to pick a “buyer friendly” paint color.
C. Since you’re style is modern – you may want to avoid moldings, wainscoting, and/or bead boards. One thing that really works for me is shelving – you can get very affordable modern shelving from places like Ikea, West Elm, and Crate & Barrel. Artfully adorn them with beautiful objects – nothing too large and distracting.
This image also shows another treatment – adorning one wall with wallpaper. Just make sure it’s a wallpaper design that is not too extreme in anyway – modern – but clean, as you want all potential buyers to like it.
via House to HomeThis is a great overall example of modern, but still livable decorating. Also keep in mind window treatments! I don’t know what your living room has in the way of windows – but treatments (hard/and or soft) can make a huge impact.
via Domino Book of DecoratingI love the modern but cozy look of this room – the lighting and spine bookcase are very memorable.

The two above images show how shelving and built-in nooks with lighting and make a big impact.
