Beautiful Solid Wood Tables by Scott Alan Ewine

    Artisan Live Edge Tables

Some of you might remember the work of Scott Alan Ewine, which I featured on Decorology before. I wanted to share some of his beautiful solid wood tables with you guys again. I visited him just a couple of weeks ago at his Frederick, MD home and studio and really enjoyed looking at all of his gorgeous live edge tables. The wood he uses is all from locally-sourced wood, and he knows which tree every piece came from!  Check out his latest pieces below.

This bookmatched black walnut dining table with turquoise inlays was recently sold, but don’t worry – Scott takes custom orders!

I love the patterns in the wood and how Scott adds the turquoise in natural voids of the wood.

Another favorite piece of mine is the white oak dining table below:

Isn’t this white oak table gorgeous?  Another great aspect of his work it that he knows the story behind the wood that he uses. The tree was almost 200 years old, and had to come down as part of an overpass built on US 15 on the north side of Frederick.  It was taken down in July 2015 and has since been cut into slabs and kiln dried and has yielded over 30 nice slabs up to 40″ wide and over 11″ long.

    Scott’s Studio

It was really fun to take a tour of Scott’s studio and learn about his process! His studio is in his basement where he can work on 6-8 pieces at a time.

Handcrafted furniture – beauty, quality, and history

One of my favorite local artists is furniture maker Scott Alan Ewine. I was lucky enough to find him years ago when I was looking for a handmade, live edge coffee table.  He’s still busy in his Frederick, MD studio making gorgeous tables from locally-sourced wood.  Check out his latest masterpiece below.

    About the table

This large white oak tree, almost 200 years old, had to come down as part of the new overpass being built on US 15 on the north side of Frederick.  The tree was taken down in July 2015 and has since been cut into slabs and kiln dried and has yielded over 30 nice slabs up to 40″ wide and over 11″ long.  I have started working through the stack and have made some large dining tables with turquoise inlaid in the natural voids in the wood.

Not to miss house tour for mid-century modern fans

I am a big fan of mid-century modern furnishings and interiors, except when it’s done in a cutesy, trendy way. I think this home is a beautiful example of mid-century modern as the furniture is restored or reupholstered with contemporary fabrics, and integrated into the home amongst contemporary accessories – lamps, artwork, textiles, etc.

Fabulous table and chairs – and what do you think of the lamp being on the table?

The chair is mid-century modern but the upholstery is now, keeping it from being cutesy.

Another great set of table and chairs. I love this room, it looks like such a peaceful place to have breakfast.

In the top left corner of this picture you’ll notice a photo overlay and in the scene you can see this console. It still looks great arranged with salon-style artwork and a modern rug.
