How To Decorate When The Christmas Decor Is Put Away

    Transition Your Decor For Winter

Feeling uninspired when it comes to how to decorate when the Christmas decor is put away?

Decorating after Christmas can be a great way to transition your home decor from the holiday season to a fresh and inviting look for the rest of the winter – all while keeping it cozy! Here are some ideas for how to decorate when the Christmas decor is put away:

    • Cozy Textiles:
      • Add warm and cozy textiles like throw blankets, pillows, and rugs in rich textures and colors.
      • Choose fabrics in cold-weather materials such as faux fur or knitted blankets to create a snug atmosphere.
    • Candles and Warm Lighting:
      • Use candles and warm-toned lighting to create a cozy ambiance. Consider flameless candles for a safer option.
      • Opt for string lights or fairy lights to add a touch of sparkle and warmth to your space.

    • Nature-Inspired Decor:
      • Bring the outdoors in with natural elements like pinecones, twigs, and evergreen branches.
      • Consider creating a centerpiece with winter foliage or a bowl of pinecones as a simple yet elegant decor piece.
    • Transitioning Holiday Decor:
      • Keep some elements from your holiday decor that can easily transition, such as silver or gold accents, neutral ornaments, or winter-themed figurines – I leave out my deer statue and pinecone candles until spring!
    • Seasonal Artwork:
      • Change out any holiday-specific artwork with pieces that represent winter or the upcoming season.
      • Consider prints or paintings featuring snowscapes, winter landscapes, or seasonal motifs.

    • Muted Colors:
      • Transition from the vibrant holiday colors to more muted tones. Think about incorporating soft blues, grays, and earthy tones.
    • Organize and Declutter:
      • Take the opportunity to declutter and organize your space as you transition from holiday decor. This can give your home a fresh and clean feel.
    • Potted Plants:
      • Introduce greenery with potted plants like winter-friendly varieties or succulents to add life to your space.

Warm and rustic spaces to inspire you to cozy up for winter

Well, we’re expectinh highs of 78 here in Maryland, but we all know winter will be here in the blink of an eye.  Whether you’re a fan of winter or not, these rustic cozy interiors will make evenings indoor a toasty treat.

A glamorous modern chandelier and sleek upholstered headboard nicely contrast the dark wook paneling.

A really cool live edge wood headboard, and wool and fur textures make this the perfect cold weather retreat.

This ceiling has so much vision.  I never would have thought to panel the ceiling in wood planks! All of the textures in the bedding are nice too!

How gorgeous is this hallway and staircase with wood beams?

This kitchen is AMAZING.  Sleek cabinetry and square tiles paired with rough hewn beams, wideplank floors, and that island?!?

Just add a fireplace to this bathroom and it’s perfect for winter nights!

  • An Extra Rug

    An Extra Rug

The cold weather creeps in this time of year and the beautiful hardwood and tile floors make walking around barefoot almost impossible!
This is when my extra rugs come out! For most season, I tend to leave the gorgeous hardwood floors uncovered and enjoy how beautiful view but this time of year, my rugs make an appearance!
Even layering rugs can give you that extra comfort and coziness you are looking for!
My personal favorite place to add a rug is the laundry room! It may be the one place we all don’t want to spend our time, but the warm dryer and a nice warm rug underneath my feet aren’t so bad in the winter!

  • Spring Cleaning in Winter

    Spring Cleaning in Winter

I’m not sure what it is about the new year and cleaning but it feels like spring cleaning in here! It might be the sense of purging things I don’t need as a way to get a fresh start, but whatever it is, I love it.
I take everything off the shelves and out of the cabinets, reevalute when the last time I used it and if it’s worth keeping and freshen up the shelves. Here’s some inspiration if you are feeling the winter cleaning buzz:
One of my favorite things to do is sometimes rearrange some stuff. Move one basket you had in one room to another one. It’s amazing how refreshing it can feel simply by being moved. But, if you have lots of random items which you need to move out or rearrange, you can take advice from simplymaids sydney and they always go an amazing job.

  • Great indoor plants to consider!

    Great indoor plants to consider!

One of the things I love the most about spring and summer is the fresh air and green everywhere! In order to keep that going through the fall and winter, I bring the green inside with indoor plants. Here are a few that I recommend.
4 Best Plants For The Great Indoors:

The Fiddle leaf fig is one of my favorites. It’s so whimsical and fairy easy to care for. It needs filtered light, so keeping it by a window is a great idea and the soil loves to stay wet. Just a quick glance at the soil will let you know if it needs more water or not.

Succulents are my second favorite! They come in all different shapes and sizes and are a great small way to ease yourself into indoor plants. They need a lot of light, but can get burned if they are too close to a window. Keeping them next to a window but not on a window sill is my suggestion! Since succulents are dormant in the winter they don’t need much water. Once every two weeks is good enough!
Herbs! Some herbs are better than others at keeping indoors during the winter. Some of the better herbs are oregano, parsley, thyme, rosemary, and chives! Most of them need 4-6 hours of sunlight and most of them need water when the soil is dry except chives I would suggest twice a week.
best house plants - Snake Plant - yes! I sooo agree! I started with one, now have 6 and have killed everything else1:

Snake Plant! This beautiful think is a great indoor plant. It removes toxins from your home that you use in cleaning products and more. It loves low light and humidity so if you have room in your bathroom, it would love it there!
My new absolute favorite is this water lily! This will be on my desk this year. Hardy dwarf water lilies do the best indoors. They need tons of light! The sunniest room would be the best option and you’ll just need to keep the water filled at least two inches under the container you choose.

    Welcoming in the warmth

Trying to make it through this last hump of wintery weather with some warm and inviting spaces! I hope you enjoy:

Living Room - The cool blues of this space are quickly warmed up by the bright reds. The corner window enlarges, the cozy cushions invite, and the unique accents lure you to explore their individuality. I am especially in love with the turquoise metal side table and the blue seat with star-shaped wooden back.

    Wood Touches

In the winter I seem to struggle to keep the house feeling fresh and warm. Adding a touch of wood in a room is a great way to bring the outdoors in and give it that feel of warmth. Here are some beautiful ways to get you inspired:

  • Martha Lights Up America

We are so excited to share these amazing new lights by Martha Stewart that you can find at Home Depot!

We had the opportunity to try out these news lights for ourselves! We are slowly getting ready for the holidays and decided to try out these new lights to see how they looked. As much as I love them, I need to run to the store and buy some more to finish the look:
They pair greatly with our other decorations.

I’ve had a traditional wreath for so long now, I am even considering getting a different one that fits with the snowflakes in the new lights!

One of my favorite things about the lights are that they are battery powered so you don’t have to worry about plugging them in, and they have a timer on them!

They were really easy to hang. We bought some 3M hooks and lined them up along the post.

Do you like traditional lights or non-traditional? Are you putting up lights for the holiday season this year?
*Disclaimer – I was given these lights as a sample but the opinions are my own!

Absolutely love this set up, there are so many pieces here I’d easily take home with me if I could!
For one this lamp is gorgeous! I love how simple it is and could go in any room but it’s glamorous enough to shine!
These colors just coordinate so well together!
These vases would be perfect for so many rooms in my house. A touch of gold is an amazing way to brighten up a room.
Don’t be afraid to go bold either!
