    Gorgeous porch inspiration for spring

First day of spring, and it’s been snowing here in Maryland for 6 hours. Hopefully this is the last hurrah for winter. This year, I am determined to have some sort of little container garden on my front porch, so I’ve been collecting some inspiration.

We don’t have space or a roof for a swinging sofa, but how awesome would that be?

I love more “wild” looking containers.

…but I also like the symmetrical look.

I really like pots cascading down the stairs…just not the green orbs.

    My Plans For Spring

I keep telling myself it won’t be much longer until spring! With a week’s worth of snow on it’s way I might be dreaming but at this point I am hanging on to my dreams. I’m trying to decide what I’d like to do with my curb appeal this year and I’m thinking simple might be the way to go:

  • Industrial Eye Candy – using just a dash or go all out

Industrial Eye Candy – using just a dash or go all out

Spring is the time for cleaning out our homes and bringing in new fresh design. It’s all the season of yard sales, festivals, and fairs which can bring some seriously great finds for your home! Here are a few ideas of what you can do with those industrial style finds:

I love the industrial style shelving here, even if you can only find the pipes there are plenty of tutorials on how to create your own shelving with them!

Love the #industrial and #rustic feel of this #bathroom, especially that mirror! @Better Homes and Gardens

It could be something as simple as a light fixture that gives you a little extra in a room or some great baskets to use on open shelving.

The great thing about industrial finds is that they are great for mixing and matching. You don’t necessarily need to have an industrial theme in order to make a piece fit into your decor. It can stand on it’s own and look amazing.

Spring and summer mantel decorating ideas

My favorite part of decorating the house is bringing in small personal touches that make me smile each time I look at them, or showing off a collection I’ve grown over time. A great place to do that is the mantel, because nothing is permanent! You can change out a mantel like you would a shelf and make it the centerpiece of a room.

Here are some great ideas to welcome spring via your mantel:

    Love the mantle and pouffe

If you are really open for change, painting your mantel and fireplace surround in a warm white is a great way to brighten it up for spring. Just make sure you are really committed if your surround is brick, as stripping paint off of brick is pretty darn tedious.

Loving this very clean and simple mantle with the white and gold accents.

You can’t go wrong with a quote. Make it something you want to remember each day or your latest mantra!  Got a cool set of pottery or ceramics? Showcase it on your mantle.

Adding a chic mirror above your mantle is a great way to make the most of precious natural light and makes a stunning focal point.  The coral on the mantle is also a nice homage to summer.  I always like to decorate with natural objects whenever possible.’

Use your mantle as a revolving art gallery.  I have way too many prints and little pieces of art from my travels to have all hanging at the same time, so I rotate them every few months.  The mantel is a great place to do that.

  • Inspiration for your outdoor space (if Spring ever gets here!)

Inspiration for your outdoor space (if Spring ever gets here!)

We are officially four days into spring, and even though we’ve barely felt the warm temperatures around here, I can’t help but daydream of what I would love to be doing to our outdoor space! We moved into our home last year mid summer and didn’t really get a chance to enjoy spring. Here’s some inspiration I’ve found that I’d love to incorporate in my outdoor area:

How gorgeous is this outdoor space?! I love this so much. I can't wait to design our deck ... It will be so fun to pick out outdoor furniture.

I like the idea of having some of outdoor space covered for really hot days so I can still enjoy the outdoors in the shade!

    love this

Although we aren’t near the beach, I love the driftwood used as decor, and the big throw pillows for a homey feel.  And check out that giant clamshell planter!

The huge potted plants are stunning in this space. It makes a great sense of privacy for the table and chairs while also being beautiful.

This space doesn’t need a lot of words, that outdoor kitchen…dreamy

Love the container gardens…I just wish I had the luck to keep them alive.

I really like outdoor spaces that feel like the indoors.  This space is like an outdoor living room.

Wow. Just gorgeous! I'll take the whole shebang

There’s something about large outdoor curtains that scream luxury to me! The bring a little of the indoor out, great for privacy, and creating shade when you need it.

What plans do you have for your outdoor space this season?

  • Ideas for using pattern in your decor (especially if you’re afraid of it)

Ideas for using pattern in your decor (especially if you’re afraid of it)

While I’m transitioning my house from winter to spring, I keep seeing all these fun prints I want to incorporate in my home decor. Here’s a few that have caught my eye:

I love to mix and match accent pillows and since these are the easiest and most budget friendly way to change up the colors in your home, they are on the top of my list.

    unknown

A pattern in neutral colors like the checkers on the floor means you don’t have to be married to one color palette. You can swap out different accent colors through out the year.

Don’t be afraid to go bold! This rug is eye catching and I like that it stands out a little since rugs tend to hide behind the rest of the home decor.

I love the look of these chairs. Between the studs and pattern only being on the back side. It give sit a glamorous yet fun look to it.

The entryway is a great place to try a little pattern because there isn’t a lot of space to be overwhelmed.  It also creates impact right from the start since it’s usually the first area of your home someone sees.

  • Bring in green (and clean air) with houseplants!

Bring in green (and clean air) with houseplants!

As we struggle to make it through this long winter and prepare for spring to come, bringing some plants into your home may be just what you need!

There are some great indoor plants that not only bring a little life into your space but also give you a little extra something to brighten up your day. Plants improve the air quality in your home by filtering things like dust, allergens, and toxins and release oxygen.

I don’t know if this little lotus is easy to grow – but how gorgeous is that?

If you are the kind of person that struggle to keep plants alive , there are some great choices that need little attention! Some examples are the kentia palms, spider plant, myrsine, and bamboo. These plants make it carefree and easy to have plants indoors. The only plants I’ve managed to keep alive are spider plants and palmes.
Smaller plants can add a little something to the room without being too distracting. If you are starting out with plants in your home, this may be the way to go so it’s not too overwhelming!

Working from home just got a little more pleasant. Plants are said to reduce stress and create a calming work environment which can produce productivity! Having a dedicated space to work is amazing but having a place that is going to enhance your work day is a great plus!

The biggest issue in my home is not having the windowsill space for plants that need sun, so be sure to do a bit of research so you know what will work best in your environment.

If you have an empty space in your home your not sure how to fill, pulling in a plant could be a great way to complete the room! There are plenty of choices to choose from to fit your needs and very beneficial to a home.

Are you a fan of indoor plants? Any green thumbs out there?
