    Beautiful Dining Rooms

I’ll be honest with you, it took me awhile to find even these 6 dining rooms that really knocked my socks off.  Maybe I’m just getting pickier, or maybe beautiful dining rooms are a shortage these days?  Whatever the cause, I hope you find at least one that speaks to you, and I tried to find them in a variety of decor styles.

    beautiful dining rooms

I found the above dining room to be really unusual, but I thought it merited a share.  The glass table and wood chairs is a really interesting choice.  I feel like this dining room could also double as a space to be really productive if you chose to work from home.

    beautiful dining rooms

I LOVE this dining room and that it is a small intimate room dedicated purely to sitting and enjoying a meal, board game, etc.

    beautiful dining rooms

I’ve been seeing settees, banquette, and other comfy seating more and more, which is nice because it means families are hopefully focusing on more time gathered around the table in each other’s company.

Aren’t those chairs cool?  The round table is STUNNING too.

    beautiful dining rooms

What do you think of all the mixed seating?  I like dining rooms with a lot of natural light, as I need it to feel awake in the morning.

    Elegant Dining Rooms

Lush velvet chairs evoke glamour and comfort, charcoal walls and a gold pendant add edge.

Fun artwork and modern foil wallpaper keep this space from being stuffy.

A circular table is instantly cozier than a rectangular one, while the details on that amazing settee scream sophistication.

This dining room is a hybrid home library and eating space.  Not a conventional pairing, but I love it.

A velvet upholstered banquette and a Saarinen table?  Yes please!

Modern traditional dining furniture in an industrial loft makes for quite a cool space for dining.

Dressing Rooms: Tips for creating a superbly glamorous dressing room

    Dressing Room inspiration

Jane, a Decorology reader, wrote me asking for inspiration for a 9×9 room she wants to turn into a “fit for a star dressing room.” So I’ve done my best to compile some super glamorous dressing rooms. I’ve also found a few “glam dressing room” essentials and where to find them. Even if you don’t have a dressing room, I hope you enjoy this eye candy!

One of my favorite dressing rooms – the dressing room of JCrew Jenna Lyons as seen in Domino.

Another one I like -I guess I really like the windows with natural light, which is good for makeup.

I think the mornings would be easier to face with a beautiful wall of beautiful shoes.

Here are some items I would use to create a starlet dressing room.

Top left: A staple of any glam interior – a chaise or settee. This one is from Montauk sofa.
Top right: Chandelier, like this one from Graham and Greene
Center: A tufted ottoman, this one is from Serena and Lily

Bottom right: A pretty little table like this one from Oomph Online

  • What’s up with Anthropologie?

    Stuff I’m loving from Anthropologie

So I’ve been really out of the loop when it comes to EVERYTHING since Leo was born 1 year and 2 days ago!  Slowly I’m starting to come out from the first-time mom rock and live a bit of my own life again.  This includes dedicating more time to Decorology (a new Decorology is coming soon!), checking in with old blogger friends, trying to make new ones, and seeing what my favorite home decor stores have been up to.
While I do like Anthropologie their style isn’t exactly mine to a T, but an Anthropologie piece mixed in here or there throughout our home would be amazing.  Problem?  Monies.  But I dream.

How beautiful is this house?  The very cool rug and Moroccan wedding pouf are Anthropologie. The house is Sarah Schneider’s. Does anyone know who is this Sarah Schneider from Love, Sarah Schneider?  She obviously has lots of monies, and seems to feature A LOT of Anthropologie stuff, but I can’t find any info on what she does other than being a “wifey” “mommy” and blogger.  Not that there’s anything wrong with that.  She seems immensely talented and I’m just wondering if she was a stylist or event planner before that.

As always whimsical patterns and bohemian flair abound in Anthropologie’s rugs and upholstery.

The hand carved lotus bed is beautiful.  I’m also loving that bedding.  Anthropologie bedding is gorgeous, but I can only afford sale prices and then you can rarely get a matching set.

Mixing two goodies!  Lucite and brass.  I really like the palette in this photograph.

The spaces they shoot in are just as gorgeous as their furniture.  I love that coffee table.

And that settee…and that rug.  I’ve missed you Anthropologie.

Do you like Anthropologie or have any of their home goods? How’s the quality?

*This post is NOT sponsored nor have I received or been offered anything from Anthropologie.

  • Furnishing a small space

    Furnishing a small space

When furnishing a small space it doesn’t mean you have to keep furniture sparse and be left with a sterile, cold room.  Rather, think scale, reflect, and “through.” Let me explain.

In the photo above, the space is small but doesn’t feel cramped, even with all of the furnishings.  A large mirror reflects light, and furniture has narrow legs allowing you to see through to the walls or floor of the room, or furniture is glass or mirrored.  You can even see through the lamp on the side table!.

Scale: Don’t get the mammoth sectional for your cozy living room.  Get a settee or a smaller sofa with narrow arms and petite legs that take up less visual and physical space.

Reflect:  Don’t neglect or waste the natural light in the room.  Place a beautiful mirror on the opposite wall of your light source, and/or get mirrored or metallic furniture and decor with reflective properties.

Through:  Find furnishings and/or decor you can literally see through.  This means furnishings with narrow legs, backless bookcases, and glass or lucite tables.

This room features a settee instead of a sofa, an armless chair, two small tables instead of a coffee table, a mirror, and a bench with narrow legs.

Lucite is great for small spaces
Below are examples of pieces that would help keep a small room looking open and inviting:

An open back and delicate frame keep this bookcase functional but visually unobtrusive.
    Get it here.

Another example of furniture you can see through. Get it here.

Lucite and metal chair found here.

Hair pin legs and a low profile make this coffee table stylish and light.
    Get it here.

I’m a sucker for unique mirrors like this one found  here

  • Our first home!

    Our first home!

I am so excited today, we decided to buy the house in Gaithersburg, MD.

We weighed pros and cons and did some back and forth and decided to take the leap! As soon as I agreed I knew we’d made the right decision. I’ve easily seen over 15 homes in the area, and this one just had a feeling right away – only the first house I saw and this one could I ever see myself living in. It has some quirks and character, but nothing we can’t work with. Our settlement is late May.

As you can imagine I already have a smorgasbord of ideas for the home. Here are the listing photos:

A summer shot of the front of the house

Unfortunately the adorable German Shepherd puppy doesn’t come with the home… Behind the wall with the TV is the kitchen, which we plan to open up and turn into a breakfast bar…

Master bedroom.  We also plan on having hardwood throughout – my allergies can’t handle carpet.

     Guest bedroom

Another bedroom, which will be my office

One of the two full baths…

The backyard is what is really special to us.  It by far and away is the largest and the mature trees give it a secluded feeling.  It needs a little love, but we’re excited to get started!

It even has an outdoor fireplace!

    I’ve already started my wishlist:

I’d love to have a settee or something like this in the bedroom,  since it’s pretty spacious compared to what we’re used to.

We’re going to need some additional rugs now that we have more than two rooms

The lighting throughout the house is not our style, so we’re going to be replacing it all

4 items above via Joss and Main

I would like something similar for the diningroom, but perhaps a little crisper than this.

    Love the end table.

  • You won’t believe where these beautiful rooms are from!

You won’t believe where these beautiful rooms are from!

I was shocked – really – when I opened up the most recent issue of the Ballard Designs catalog. They’ve really upped the ante on their styling. It’s relaxed and glamorous at the same time. (Click on each image for a larger view)

    Love cream and light blue

I like the Moroccan style rug in the picture above. They have it in a couple other colors as well.

I like their home office setups
