Dream home: Lots of natural light, architectural details, and beautiful colors

A pretty and polished home from Studio McGee

This house is pretty darn close to my dream house.  The large windows that pour in natural light, the molding, the palette in neutral cool tones with pops of color here and there. …sigh….

The three images above show the formal living room.

The kitchen and kitchen nook feature white and gray cabinetry and gorgeous marble backsplashes.

This is the kitchen nook.  That herringbone backsplash is so beautiful.

I like the mix and match chairs in the dining area.  I’m not always a fan but I like it here.

The dining room opens up into the beautiful great room.

I really, really like the clean lines of the furniture used throughout the entire home.

Lots of beautiful decorative pillows add softness to those clean lines a

The color palette is so pretty!

How amazing is the desk in the home office?  It also looks like I need to upgrade my office chair for a white leather high back beauty!
I also like the contrast of the dark built-ins and the modern brass chandelier.

  • Is this kitchen TOO glamorous? A dramatic kitchen renovation

Everybody likes a good before and after.  And this kitchen renovation is one of the most dramatic transformation I’ve see.  But is this kitchen makeover too over the top?  I can’t decide.  It is undoubtedly beautiful, but at the same time I feel like I just walked in to a high end designer shop where I shouldn’t touch anything lest I smudge it.

I do really like the chevron wallpaper, I’m just not sure if I like them throughout the whole kitchen.

The kitchen is the work of Lieve Saether, Owner at Turnstyle Design LLC.  The kitchen is her own.

Open shelves in the kitchen are a popular way to add more kitchen storage

I am not a big fan of the brass-looking top cabinets.  I do really like the soft greenish white on the other cabinets.

Saether’s strong suit is unexpected mixes of pattern, color, and texture.  She says the key is not too take them too seriously and follow your own creative intuition.
Below are some “before”shots so you can really appreciate the transformation.

What do you think?  For me, I do think the kitchen is really beautiful, and I would definitely say “wow” upon entering, but there is a bit too much going on for me.  I like more minimalist kitchens.

  • Small Kitchen love: fantastic galley kitchens

My kitchen isn’t a galley but it is small.  And I love it.  Everything is close at hand and very efficient.  Since I don’t have extraneous storage space, I don’t have extraneous possessions cluttering up dark corners of cabinets I rarely open.

Love all the pops of color and the herringbone backsplash!

Keeping as much of your counter surface clear is really important when it is limited.

The wide plank floors and exposed brick is a nice contrast with the modern cabinets and appliances.  Because the cabinetry on the left side is white, it really visually opens the space up a bit.

Loving the wood counter.  And check out the vertical wine storage to the left.  If you can keep cabinets tidy, class front cabinets will add depth to a narrow space and reflect light.

This galley kitchen has a grandeur to it that doesn’t make it seem small at all.

These owners embraced small and intimate with dark tile floors, moody lighting, and slate gray walls.

All of our love to Paris

My thoughts have really been with Paris this week.  I’ve had the pleasure of visiting twice, and cannot wait to return.  Keep them in your hearts!

Here are some gorgeous spaces done in the way only Parisians can!

Super clean lines in the furnishings allow the amazing bones of this place to really shine.

  • Brilliant backsplashes

    Brilliant backsplashes

I guess it’s pretty common when going through a remodel that other projects that weren’t a part of the original plan creep in. One such project in my case is a backsplash. Currently our kitchen is painted in a vanilla colored flat paint, which makes cleaning above the stove a nightmare. Are there any good reasons not to have a backsplash?

This is pretty close to my dream kitchen.

    Love these cabinets too.

This blue is a nice contrast to the white.
