Is this kitchen TOO glamorous? A dramatic kitchen renovation

Everybody likes a good before and after.  And this kitchen renovation is one of the most dramatic transformation I’ve see.  But is this kitchen makeover too over the top?  I can’t decide.  It is undoubtedly beautiful, but at the same time I feel like I just walked in to a high end designer shop where I shouldn’t touch anything lest I smudge it.

I do really like the chevron wallpaper, I’m just not sure if I like them throughout the whole kitchen.

The kitchen is the work of Lieve Saether, Owner at Turnstyle Design LLC.  The kitchen is her own.

Open shelves in the kitchen are a popular way to add more kitchen storage

I am not a big fan of the brass-looking top cabinets.  I do really like the soft greenish white on the other cabinets.

Saether’s strong suit is unexpected mixes of pattern, color, and texture.  She says the key is not too take them too seriously and follow your own creative intuition.
Below are some “before”shots so you can really appreciate the transformation.
What do you think?  For me, I do think the kitchen is really beautiful, and I would definitely say “wow” upon entering, but there is a bit too much going on for me.  I like more minimalist kitchens.

    Glamorous Industrial apartment

The apartment below is a fresh mix of industrial style meets glamorous.

It comes from Heart Home magazine

“From the studio of Jaime Beriestain, this renovated apartment celebrates its industrial roots but has more than a touch of added luxury thrown in. It was originally an office but after its sympathetic transformation into a sophisticated living space it now has a warm, timeless and contemporary ambiance. ”

    glamorous industrial

Love all of the natural light in this space, the neutrals are a breath of fresh air too.

    glamorous industrial

The kitchen is a bit dark for me, but I still appreciate it.

The clean lines and copper make this bathroom glamorous even though other elements are very industrial.

How great is all of that exposed brick?

    Glamorous Interiors

It is always such a treat when I’m introduced to an interior designer whose work I haven’t seen before. It doesn’t happen very often, which is why I’m really excited to share with you Schuyler Samperton. She’s an LA based designer with a cool modern twist on traditional decorating. If you love glamorous interiors, I’m sure some of you do know her work – and even if you’ve seen it before, I imagine it’s just as beautiful to look at the second…, third…, fourth time around…

Pops of pink and turquoise balance out the visual heaviness of the dark wood beams

I would never think to put together that rug that table, with those curtains and that striped chair.  It’s a very unexpected blend, and I like that it looks like the furnishings and decor was collected over time as opposed to items purchased just to match.

The two below images are from the home of model Carolyn Murphy, which was featured in March’s vogue!

    Those wood floors are heaven!

    A modern victorian house tour

Modern victorian, a match made in heaven.

I love the good bones and ornate molding of victorian homes, and the clean lines and fresh look of modern design.  The below is a remodel that honors the amazing high ceilings, intricate casework, and classic of the victorian home.  The owner’s improvements included altering the floor plan to make more functional spaces for today’s lifestyle.

What a dreamy bathroom.  Love the clawfoot tub, the sinks, and the herringbone floors.

The built-in closet adds so much character to the bedroom.

    modern victorian dining room

How amazing is the fireplace and built-in cabinets with lead glass surrounding it?

    modern victorian kitchen

The kitchen is probably the most altered.  Love those barstools and the industrial aesthetic they add.  The glamorous chandelier is a nice contrast.

Another shot of the dining room.  Sorry to say that while I like the table, I do not like the chairs.

Love the large subway tile backsplash behind the stove.

  • Why you shouldn’t neglect your hallways

Why you shouldn’t neglect your hallways

It’s not a new idea to utilize your hallways and not let them be wasted space, but some – myself included- are still guilty of this.  Now that the weather is cooling we will be spending more time indoors, therefore freeing up time to show your halls some love.

A lot of the examples below are foyers, but entryways often pose similar design conundrums as halls, and similar solutions.

I love that this hallway is so glamorous but gets cheeky with the addition of a giant framed chalkboard.
    via Pic toViral

Our hallway is narrower than this one, no kidding.  Wainscoting and a lovely collection of framed art give this hallway a studied feel.

So, this hallway is all about amazing bones.  The vaulted ceiling is so pretty.  The horizontal shiplap creates a sense of length.

I love a round table in the middle of an entry.  It boasts – “hey look at all the space I have!”  It is not a boast I can make.

If you have enough width in your hall to allow it, built-ins or shelves are a great way to display more than art or serve as additional storage.

    Traditional and pretty.

Mix and match pattern and color from Turnstyle interior design firm

Baby Leo isn’t in the mood to allow me to sit here and write for very long, so I have to keep this post brief.  These spaces from Turnstyle don’t need much said on their behalf – they speak for themselves!

I actually featured this glamorous kitchen recently following it’s reveal in Domino.

    Such a cool hip nursery!

Well, sorry I had to keep it brief. What do you think of Turnstyle’s interior design style?

  • You have to see this hip grand Chicago townhouse

This townhouse really evokes an unusual blend of old world grandeur and a modern, hip lifestyle.

A plush comfy armchair in the dining room – love it.

Tiled barrel vault ceiling?  Amazing.  This kitchen really evokes kitchens of the past.

The red carpet on the stairs and black and white contrasting tiles adds so much drama to the foyer.  I love that chandelier too.

The master bedroom is full of drama and glamour.  I love the deco lighting, dark walls, and canopy bed.

You can’t go wrong with silk drapes either.

A chic bachelorette pad in NYC

In NYC square footage may be small, but style is big.  This amazing make over was done completely over the internet too, via eDesign.

Even the little dining area is glam!
I never would have thought to pair the bold modern wallpaper with the traditional, muted palette of the rug.
Vertical storage like the bookshelves are a must-have in small spaces. Love the styling of the shelves too.
    The art is great, too

Have an impressive collection? Show it off!

I love the dark wall against the classic lines of the cream headboard.

The rug perfectly subdued and “noticeable” at the same time.
