A modern minimalist home that is also cozy!

A minimal interior that’s also cozy seems like a bit of an oxymoron, but it is possible.  And a space that manages to pull it off is ultimately much healthier.  It’s been proven – less clutter, less stress.

A key element in a minimal style home is clean lines.  There is no rules that clean lines need to be straight lines with hard corners.  The curved lines of the sofa and the arm chair create a sort of symmetry that lets the eye relax.

Carefully edited knick knacks and books create less opportunities for dust to settle, and makes cleaning easier.  If you have a lot of sentimental objects you like to keep displayed, then rotate them so you get to enjoy them but keep your space minimal.

Angular planes of the pendant are more restful to the eye than an ornate chandelier.  The panoramic window creates a tranquil landscape effect.

The entry is very important too to your homes health.  A stoop that is easy to keep clean means less dirt being brought into the home.

More proof that minimal can be cozy!  Tailored throw pillows make the living room warm and inviting without extra “fluff”

I’ve been working on moving more and more items off of my counter tops.  It makes food prep much easier, counter top cleaning much easier, and cleaner visually.  Obviously, I can’t stress the importance of keeping your home clean.  Most of our exposures come from dust, and even knowing this I am not vigilant about dusting.  If you have the means I highly recommend a service like Snapclean.

  • A Newly Renovated Farmhouse, Lidham Hill Farm

There’s something about renovating older homes that I adore. This little farm was newly renovated and proved to be a beautiful transition keeping some of the old and incorporating some of the new.

Would you love to live on an old farm?

  • Revamping the Fireplace

    Revamping the Fireplace

With Fall around the corner I am thinking of all the things I’d like to get done before the weather get’s too cold! One of the most obvious things that stuck out to me was revamping the fireplace!
Giving it a new face lift and making it the centerpiece of the room is a great start.
This is also a great time to get it check out, cleaned out, and ready to go! You might even get a great discount if you go ahead and schedule maintenance now before the rush comes.
I also love the look of fresh firewood by a fireplace. Even if you aren’t a fall decor kind of person, this definitely fits the cold weather theme!
And last but not least, arranging your furniture to display all your hard work!
    Are you excited for fall?

Fresh and clean – interiors that scream spring

Finally – the weather is starting to warm up and the sun is coming out!  While my home is still a construction zone – it is nice to imagine and gather inspiration for how I will decorate once all of our new flooring is down!

  • Timeless transitional

Transitional can take so many leans, I guess that’s why I like it so much. It also has a timeless appeal, and timeless equals good taste.

  • Luscious Neutral Spaces

I think everyone can agree that there is definitely elegance in simplicity. Simplicity can by reflected by your decor, textiles, or in the examples below, through a restrained use of color.

  • Warm inspiration as it starts to get cold

Warm inspiration as it starts to get cold

Now that the weather is starting to cool, I’ve been thinking about unpacking our winter throws, accent pillows, and down comforters. One of my favorite winter comforts is my faux fur throw. It adds luxe, glamour, and coziness to my sofa.

Winter is also a great time to swap out cotton and canvas pillows for textured pillows.  Mixing up different textures like mongolian lamb or yarn always looks inviting.
Pack up the linens and sheers for heavier velvet or silk drapes.  Not only do they look gorgeous, they will actually help keep the chill out from the windows.
Obviously visually warming up your space isn’t enough to keep your home warm…as much as I love the old look of traditional radiators in a home, there are some pretty cool modern ones I’d never seen before!

I love that the one above doubles as a console as well! I would love to curl on the couch and read next that warm radiator! Some perks of these modern radiators? If you are looking to heat up a small space such as a bathroom or an office, you can use a low wattage radiator which can save you so much in price as well saving energy! They also are very quick to heat up unlike a heater which can take some time to get going and will cost you for all that extra time you have it running to get up to the desired temperature. Also if it is not a portable heater it has a very low risk of house fires which makes it a safer alternative.

Not to mention designer radiators are pretty cool looking these days! There are a ton of different styles, shapes, sizes, and colors to fit in with your home decor. For example, the one above also comes in yellow, brown, and blue!

If you still like the look of the older covered radiators you can just do a quick update to a more modern one that can save you space and be more efficient. In small spaces a smaller radiator can make a world of difference!

  • Getting cozy inside when it’s stormy out…

Getting cozy inside when it’s stormy out…

As I’m sure you all know by now, here on the East Coast we are all bracing for Sandy to hit. Schools are closed, offices are closed, and transit is at a halt. There’s no where to go but to stay home, and why not make it as cozy and comfy as possible?

I’d love to know where this house is
We were without power for a whole week this summer, so we’re bracing for the worst this time, and have gathered up all of our candles and filled all of our pots with water.
Nothing says cozy like marshmallows and cocoa.
And of course, park yourself in front of the fire if you are lucky enough to have one…
    How do you get cozy?
