    Divine Kitchens

I think kitchens can really tell a lot about a person. Do they cook a lot, are they messy or neat, modern or traditional, are they collectors or purgers…, etc.. Below are some lovelies I’ve pulled together…

I’m not usually a big fan of modern, but the rug and sheers adds softness.

Love the light fixtures, love the backsplash.  Kitchen tiles and flooring tile is really something that makes a huge impact and can’t really be faked.  I’m sure when I’m lucky enough to design my dream kitchen, and floors, I’m going to try and look into every possible money saving option, like buying wholesale tile, click here for an example.

White is my favorite for cabinets.

Wow! 3 chandeliers, that wallpaper, that green island!  It all makes for one pretty and cheerful kitchen.

    Sleek and efficient.

I don’t think I’ve seen a kitchen with this much exposed brick.

Definitely the kitchen of a fun-loving, quirky chef.

What does your kitchen say about you?

    Kitchen Love

I cook a lot more in the fall and winter, so I’ll be spending a lot more time in the kitchen.  I imagine that in some homes, the kitchen is the most popular room in the house.  Our kitchen is a small galley kitchen, so it’s not suitable for hanging out in, but one day I hope to have a kitchen that opens up to the living room.

This kitchen is simple, but white is my favorite cabinet color, and the light is really nice.

If you are very good at keeping your items tidy, open shelves can be really attractive, and the open backs don’t hide the eye-catching backsplash.

Talk about amazing kitchen design, all those windows would make you feel like you’re cooking outside year round.

  • A home full of vintage treasures

A home full of vintage treasures

Have you ever visited a friend’s home and everything in it catches your attention? You end up perusing bookshelves or admiring a collection of ceramics more than chatting with guests.  I actually love this when it happens because it means I am inspired – and by a REAL LIVED-IN home!  A home decorated over time with objects of meaning or history is almost always a joy to be in, because you get such a strong sense of the owner.  This home below displays how you can bring any home to life when your décor is selected over time and out of a true emotional connection.

The antique mirror is an instant focal point.

Flea market finds can keep a home office from looking drab and stuffy.

Of course, make sure you protect your possessions with Home contents insurance. Also remember to stop and think of how a vintage furnishing you love could be repurposed for some other function… turn an empty frame into a serving tray, etc.

  • Need to get away?

    Need to get away?

I need a vacation in the worst way….unfortunately I don’t see one in my immediate future. The one I’m imagining is on the beach in the Outer Banks, far from crowds, with a book and my dogs, just sitting on the sand everyday, doing…..nothing. ahhhhhhh. Okay, back to reality. Whether or not a vacation is in your immediate future – these photos are sure to give you the travel bug.

Next time you do decide to travel, maybe instead of a generic hotel, try checking out apartments for rent in the area where you’re going.  When my boyfriend and I went to Paris and Switzerland we stayed in apartments instead of hotels and we really, really enjoyed it.  I get tired of eating out, and it’s nice to go to local markets and bring them back to the apartment and do a little of your own cooking.

Below are some examples of what you’re missing when you stay in a hotel:

How about a little time in North Italy?

    Or a  Paris pied-à-terre

Or this view out of your Barbados bedroom…yes please!!!

    A swanky Detroit studio

or, some authentic New Mexico digs….

What do you think?  Ready for a vacation?

Interested in renting one of these properties?  I got all of these image properties from Inhabit Vacations  – your “Travel Curators”

Bright, airy, and beautiful spaces to brighten up your Monday

Ugh – I’m feeling this Monday pretty hard. I’d love to just layout in a chaise on my balcony and read and nap. I thought these white and bright images might be a little pick-me-up…

    How pretty is this hammock?

Two fashion designers, two different homes…

I love checking out house tours from other designers. Since they have similar needs, and these two happen to work from home like me, I always get some great ideas for improving my workspace. Enjoy!

I love that this space is super feminine, but the brick walls balance it out with an industrial element.

I really want a dress form – I’m finally going to have space to have a dedicated space for my sewing machine, too.
