Beautiful homes in shades of blue

Rooms in shades of blue are popular for a reason – the color works in every room

Most of our house is painted in a light aqua blue.  It’s soothing, airy, and doesn’t clash with anything.  It just works.  It doesn’t try to make too much of a statement or chase the latest trend.

Below are other examples to serve as inspiration for blue rooms in every shade – from dark and dusky to light and bright.

Even different shades of blue as accent colors work when mixed together.  And how about those french doors in the bedroom!

Chango & Co, one of my favorite interior design firms and based in Brooklyn, created this amazing girl’s bedroom with a cheerful blue on the walls.

A textrured indigo on the wall ties together the bolder blues in the bedding and the settee.  I love the blue and white patterned bedspread!!

More indigo blue on textured walls.  So clean and airy, but also cozy and intimate

Blue can be glamorous also, expecially when used in a glossy finish and on upscale details like wainscoting.

Dark and dusky blue makes this dining room an intimate place to catch up with family.

    Beach Decor

Home decor should reflect where you’ve been, who you are, and what you love. If that is the beach, here is some great inspiration to make it a beach getaway indoors, even if it’s not outdoors!
These light fixtures are gorgeous and remind me of a lighthouse style!

It can be as simple as some beautiful beach pictures.

Vintage interiors and beautiful moody moments

Vintage interiors really shine when the craftsmanship and details of the past generations pair well with modern sensibilities of less clutter.  And, for simply the heck of it, I’ve added some shots that simply remind me that there is beauty in life to be had, though for personal reasons I might have trouble focusing on them right now.

A beautiful wooden armoire with birdcage wallpaper makes for a truly beautiful room.

    crystal mandela

I don’t know anything about crystals. But this crystal mandala in pink and golds is pretty enough to frame.

The golden hour, especially during spring, summer, or fall, is the best time to be outside.

    cabinet and framed map

Such a pretty, moody blue – brought all the way down to the baseboards.  The glass front drawers create a “cabinet or curiosity” effect.

You can’t beat a daybed for making use of an unusual space – like the landing at the top of a spiral staircase.

It’s Monday…ugh.  I need an interior eye candy pick-me-up.  Want to join me?

These absolutely stunning, elegant rooms are the work of Alexa Hampton.
    I LOVE this canopy fabric.

The hours I could spend on the sofas in this room perusing my art books.

The periwinkle of this room is such a pretty shade of blue.

This guest bedroom proves that little can still be luxurious.
Fantastic built-in bookshelves even line the hallways

How about that crown molding.  I really liked the tasseled drapes too.

    Beautiful Master Bedroom Inspiration

Sorry I’ve been MIA this week.  I think I’ve been fighting off a cold as I’ve been so tired it feels like I’ve taken one too many Benadryl. So what better room to honor than the master bedroom, a place that should be for relaxation, rest, and SLEEP.

As always love the neutral walls and white bedding with pops of colors from the royal blue accent pillows.  Those sconces in the headboard are amazing too!

So Parisian, so chic.  This master bedroom has a feminine and glamorous appeal.  The mirror and the wood headboard are my favorite part of this room.

  • Mixing Pastels and Brights

    Mixing Pastels and Brights

Usually when you plan out a room you know what color scheme you are looking for and if you are going for a more subtle look or a bold look. What if you wanted both?
I’m seeing a lot of pastels mixed with pops of color on my instagram feed and I am loving it!
Lovely colorful breakfast/ dining in the kitchen! Pastel blue banquette seating, Saarinen inspired table and blue painted chairs with a pop of brights in the art and light.:
The fun part about using accent pieces is that if you change your mind later, you can grab a few new pillows or a painting and have a completely different room.
Love how textures and prints are combined here, especially on the sofa - so many accents, but great together. apartment of Swedish designer Elina Dahl:
It is so fun when two unexpected things come together to make something so unique and beautiful.
This is my dream Lounge room, from the Mozi Cockatoo Lamp, Deer Heads and the Horse Canvas, everything just works, it's chic, and a bit kitsch. Just the right amount of colour, pattern and texture. ~Sarah Cockatoo lamp. I want one!:

2016 Interior Design Trend: Pretty Pastel Interiors

    Pastel interiors inspiration

If pastels are done right, I love them.  If not, I loathe them.  The need to be cool and sophisticated, not sweet and sugary.  Below is some inspiration I found for interiors that use pastels in a fresh and hip way.

The super soft and muted tones in the rug and on the walls are like a breath of fresh air in this LA home.

The blush panels in this dining room are made sophisticated by the sleek black dining room furniture.  The pinks and oranges in the rug are just different enough to keep the pastels from being too matchy matchy.
    2 images above via Domino
Pale blue and gold are always a winning combo in my eyes, and since no other pastels are competing, the landing doesn’t look like too sweet.
Usually the pink, sherbet orange and light blue together would be too much for me, but because the rug and settee have a time worn patina I think it works.
What do you think of the blue door?  I think the subdued purple in the rug helps tone it down.
    image above via Domino
This space might be a little too pastel for me, but I love that rug!

Do you use pastel in your decor at all?  If so, how?
