We’re back! A new year, a new Decorology to welcome 2017!

Let’s welcome 2017 as a new year of health, kindness, beauty, respect for the planet, reverence for our bodies, reverence for our souls, accepting others and embracing our differences, and PEACE.  As cliche and naive as it may sound, why can’t we all be “humble and kind,” as Tim McGraw’s “Humble and Kind” pleads?

Below are images I’ve found that illustrate and inspire my goals this year to have a beautiful home, healthy body, clean food, meaningful relationships.  I hope you enjoy!

    modern kitchen

Details like stunning pull ring fixtures, an ornate  backsplash, and brass fixtures make this kitchen.  The wood front fridge and farmhouse sink keep the space from looking too polished.  And those windows.

    beautiful strong fit yoga

It’s all about fitspiration for me not thinspiration.  Fit individuals age much better than thin individuals.  My goal is to stay strong.  I mentioned to my son’s physical therapist that ever since I had him, and spend a lot more time on the floor that my hips and knees have been hurting.  She recommended yoga to keep joints flexible and open.

We cannot eat, breathe, drink, and be nourished by money. No matter what or who the cause of changes on our planet, it’s care and wellness should be a top priority.

Another big goal for me this year is to continue on my path to live simply and minimize.  I’ve continued going through all of our possessions and trying to donate or sell everything that has no functional or sentimental value.  It’s an ongoing, long process, but we’ve made good progress and I love what it is doing to our home!

What are your goals and what inspires you this year?

A touch of vintage: Rooms full of history, beauty and character.

So I discovered a new (to me) blog, The Vintaquarian, that I love.  I cannot stop looking.  Below is just a taste of the beauty to behold there.

A gallery wall of mirrors, a daybed sofa with tassel fringe. swoon.

What an amazing view from a cozy window seat.

I really like the large windows in this dining room.

A little vignette of succulents and crystals.

This chair is a work of art.

The mirror and rug are my favorite part of this room, but I like all of it.

    A cozy home library.

Best Built-ins: Inspiration for adding beautiful functional storage

When I hear built-ins I usually envision more expensive custom built homes.  However, when you consider the cost of quality furniture, or any furniture for that matter, you might be surprised at the bang for your buck custom built built-ins provide.  Also consider the value it will add to your home, and that you have a storage solution perfectly suited to you and your lifestyle.

This large built-in with shelves and cabinets is wonderful because not only does it provide space to house books, but kids crafts and games can be kept in the cabinets beneath.

A dream kitchen workstation.  A desk in the kitchen would be very useful for us, but we just don’t have the space.

Built in jewelry storage?! Yes please! Not only does built in jewelry storage keep baubles untangled and dust-free, everything is visible at a glance.  Imagine being able to get out and put away your baume and mercier watch without having to wonder where it is or where it goes!

Built-ins in bedrooms aren’t as common, but I think these are a great way to store books, and showcase personal or sentimental items

This custom built-in desk is special because it’s designed in a way so it doesn’t block the amazing windows, therefore maximizing natural light.

  • Bedroom Seating

    Bedroom Seating

Decorating a bedroom doesn’t seem that difficult but decorating one with a joined seating area can sometimes get tricky! Finding the right pieces that compliment each other aren’t always easy to come by.
Picking tones that blend well together and using accent pillows to tie them in is a great start.

For rooms that don’t necessarily have  dedicated seating area, a bench at the end of the bed is a great alternative!

It’s important to decide if you want the seating area to stand out or the bed. Which one do you want your eye to gravitate to more?

Sticking with comfort and serene is a great idea since this is your bedroom, you do want it to be a place that creates a calm atmosphere.

A window seat does double duty! You have a great seating area with plenty of storage underneath!
  • Super dreamy, never-want-to-leave home libraries.

These pics make me oh so jealous…but I just can’t turn away.

Comfy seating and good light are a great foundation to start with.

  • Adding a Bench Seat

With the cold weather coming, I’ve been in the mood to cuddle up around the house and have been looking for new spaces to find where I can have some sunshine and relax a little.

I always wished I had places like these to do homework and hang out when I was a kid.

I love how creative some of these spaces are, even if you don’t think you have room for one, you might be surprised!

A home that will truly brighten your day

I found the home of this talented lady on Flickr, and I just can’t get enough. She lives in Malaysia with her sons and husband – and is obviously a very talented cook and decorator. Enjoy!

I really like this mirror. Vivaterra has a similar one from recycled boat wood.
