  • Pattern Happy: Inspiration for using pattern to breathe fresh air into your home

I confess I do get a little afraid of patterns, and I imagine there are a few of you out there who feel the same way.  However, I almost always love a space that masterfully mixes patterns.  Start introducing pattern into your home by finding a few images and/or examples that you think are successful, pinpoint the “guidelines” that created success, and then apply them to your own space.

In this home pattern is even cohesively mixed throughout the home – and the exterior!  Red – in both large and small doses is the “thread” that creates the cohesion.

Sticking to a color palette (green, red, and black), and varying pattern scales are two guidelines that are help successfully mix patterns.

Bedding is a good way to get your feet wet with mixing patterns because it’s not as drastic as patterned carpet or wallpaper, though this bedroom beautifully mixes wallpaper pattern, upholstery, drapery, and bedding patterns!

If you’re still afraid, mix patterns on a smaller scale – pretty books and trays in a bookshelf or coffee table vignette can help build your pattern-mixing confidence!
  • Sofas that are anything but neutral – couches with color

Sofas that are anything but neutral – couches with color

Our walls are close to this color – I just assumed we would get a gray sofa. All though I’d prefer white or cream, with an active young dog and a baby on the way, I’m afraid I’d be constantly fretting over stains. I would never have thought to use a light blue couch against an aqua wall, but I don’t mind it here.

I love navy, but I’m so afraid of it making our already small living room seem smaller.

  • A no-fuss beach house that’s relaxing and beautiful

A no-fuss beach house that’s relaxing and beautiful

The beach is my favorite place, and I haven’t been to one in over two years. If I had any beach house I’d be there now, but this one would be especially nice. It’s not your typical blue and white, seashell adorned coastal dwelling, but a chic and modern take that is still laid back.

White walls with the gorgeous glossy floors is so refreshing and pretty.  Gloss floors are easy to clean, too!

The owner chose pink and turquoise over the traditional blue and white.  I think turquoise and pink are a refreshing change.

I imagine the owner has reasons, but I would hang some artwork or a pretty chandelier in the bedroom, and use the same hardwood floors as seen in the dining room.

  • A Glamorous apartment in a historic art nouveau building

A Glamorous apartment in a historic art nouveau building

A Glamorous apartment full of feminine touches

This glamorous apartment belongs to decorator and TV presenter Ana Antunes, and is located in Chiado, Lisbon’s fashion district. I feel like this apartment speaks to the girly girl in all of us who wants to feel luxurious and pampered in every room of your house. Tiffany blues, mirrored furnishings, pastels, and opulent decor are found throughout this stunning space.

The deep, tall windows in this room are to-die-for.

If you couldn’t tell, Ana loves all things Tiffany blue.

I always try to use decor that has special meaning to me, just like Ana has showcased one of her mother’s paintings here.

So true and so simple “Always believe your instincts and emotions.  If you love something a lot, stick with it because you won’t get tired of it easily”

I’ve made the mistake of really liking something “of the moment.”  Even though I might sincerely like the look, I don’t always wait to see if I like it for an extended period, enough to make the commitment to it in my home.

Love all the artwork throughout her home.

A gorgeous home tour to brighten up your Monday

I’m not always a fan of florals but I just had to share this one with you. The floral pattern used throughout this house is so beautiful.

I love the color coded book look but my books are never colorful enough.

    Love the turquoise console

I would never think to put a brown quilt with these florals but I really like the look.
