    Penny Tile

Penny tile was a major thing in the 20th century and although you don’t find it in many homes now, it isn’t as retro as most people make it out to be. Used correctly, I think it can be very modern!

  • Happy Friday – eye candy!

    Happy Friday – eye candy!

I feel awful I’ve been so neglectful of Decorology lately!  Our settlement couldn’t come sooner, because I’m not going to feel like the house is really ours until I have the keys.  Now I’m just in countdown mode until May 28th!

Here are some gorgeous spaces to get your weekend started off right:

I might test out having white floors in my home office.  I love the look but would only want to commit to a small space in the beginning.

  • The home office/studio of one of my favorite graphic designers/bloggers

The home office/studio of one of my favorite graphic designers/bloggers

Designer Fabien Barral’s blog, Graphic Exchange, is always my go-to site for design inspiration when I’m starting a new project and feel a little bit of designer’s block. He has a way of finding the most stunning work being produced in the graphic design world – especially when it comes to typography. It was no surprise really that his home office, which he shares with his wife in the countryside of France, is as equally inspiring.

Separate work stations provide lots of work surfaces, and in my humble opinion, one can never have too much surface area…

The plants are a nice touch… I have three in my space

One day I’ll have space to have a separate table for pencil/ink/and paint, and a separate desk for my computer…

Make organizational tools like filing/storage that are out in the open pretty, and somehow visually cohesive – love these.

Lovely office right? I know I’m a bit jealous.  You may also know Barral from Harmonie-Intérieure, a home-decor stencil company that does some really unique wall stencils.  I did a post on them years ago.

  • Simply lovely living rooms from Domino

Simply lovely living rooms from Domino

Domino is gone, but not forgotten. It’s living rooms like these that keep the magazine’s spirit alive…

This living room is really unique – I like it.

  • A Divine house tour mixing elegance, peacefulness, livability, and vintage elements

A Divine house tour mixing elegance, peacefulness, livability, and vintage elements

These rooms blend so many nice elements and styles. Even though the feeling is luxury – I also get a sense of peacefulness. The colors are muted but not monotone.

What a great style mix – the tufted sofa with the retro dining set.

The bedroom has a rustic, country feel

The below are actually from another home I think..

    Great table…

I’m usually not a fan of something so modern as this bedroom, but the simple lines and clean design work really well in a bedroom.

    LOVE that window!

  • A little eye candy to brighten up your Monday

A little eye candy to brighten up your Monday

Mondays…blah. Especially when it’s getting so cold out! It makes it so tough for me to crawl out from under the covers when I’m toasty warm. Hopefully these chic homes with a nod to the traditional can help brighten it up a little?

The beam above the window adds a nice rustic touch without being too “look how rustic I am.”

Love the nooks for spices by the oven

    Cappuccino maker!

I like the look of raw linen and canvas like they’ve used on the bar stools

This kitchen has such a 17th century Dutch air to it – even without the Vermeer

The rooms below are from another house –

A home office with gobs of natural light! Looks nice and tucked away.

Love the retro classic chair. I also like that this room, though it has modern retro elements is still most obviously lived in. Nothing is too precious. Evidence of human, and canine, life can be seen on the shelves, the coat rack, etc.

In this room I like the large prints on every wall, and of course, the lounge. I’m a sucker for a reading nook!
