    Stylish living rooms

With Pinterest and a plethora of online inspiration these days, it’s easier than ever to find inspiration and guidance to make your home pretty and cohesive.  But a truly stylish room really requires an instinct, talent, and eye for that particular “something” to add the unexpected “wow” factor.  I think the stylish living rooms below really achieve that.

I’m loving navy velvet these days.  And the gray walls with that artwork is amazing.

A bookcase as a whole should be a well-composed design.

This living room is set up like a den with different areas for intimate conversation or reading.  I love this idea.

This living room is stylish, but the comfortable couch and heavy wood tables makes everything feel very anchored and cozy.

    Beautiful Dining Room Inspiration

Dining Room Inspiration just in time for Thanksgiving!

Whether your hosting this year or not, I figured it would still be nice to indulge in a little dining room eye candy.

Black ceiling and a rich rust colored carpet…I’m a fan. You?

Loving the contrasts here between white and navy blue.

This one might be my favorite from the round up.  It’s family friendly but still sophisticated.  And that blue wall is so pretty!

  • A New Jersey Victorian goes from dark and stuffy to bright and bold in this house tour

A house tour that shows historic homes can be fresh and modern

It’s hard not to be distracted by the fun and colorful approach BHDM design took when designing the 128 year old Victorian that was once stuffy and dark.  What really caught my eye were the amazing suzani upholstered chairs in bright blues and pinks.

I’m really liking the colorful decorative pillows.

I love this wingback chair – the colors and floral pattern is so pretty.

The sunroom offers a nice break from the pinks and reds throughout the rest of the home.

Talk about a brave commitment.  Navy lacquered walls really make jaws drop in this sitting room.  I feel like no color was left unused in this jewel toned room.

The dining room is probably my least favorite.  The wallpaper is too busy for me.  But I thought it was worth sharing.

I’m sure painting the old hardwood floors a glossy chevron wasn’t an easy choice either.  Do you think it was a good decision?

  • Reading nooks perfect for a cloudy day

Reading nooks perfect for a cloudy day

This weekend we saw some sun, but the DC area has been under a cloak of clouds for about 15 days now.  Usually I’ll try to post uplifting sunny gardens or light and bright house tours on rainy days, but I’ve decided to embrace it today.  So I’m coming to you today from the chaise of my sectional cuddled up with a faux fur throw.  If you can, I encourage you to enjoy the following photos in a similar fashion.

One day I will have a gorgeous antique leather arm chair.

Love the wood beams, most likely repurposed specifically for the creation of this charming reading nooks.

I love that this nook makes use of what would otherwise be underutilized hall space.

I’d either be reading or just staring out the gorgeous window.

  • Sofas that are anything but neutral – couches with color

Sofas that are anything but neutral – couches with color

Our walls are close to this color – I just assumed we would get a gray sofa. All though I’d prefer white or cream, with an active young dog and a baby on the way, I’m afraid I’d be constantly fretting over stains. I would never have thought to use a light blue couch against an aqua wall, but I don’t mind it here.

I love navy, but I’m so afraid of it making our already small living room seem smaller.
