Beautiful and Classic interiors: Interior design by Kate Marker

Kate Marker Interiors blends the old and the new

I’m having a serious designer crush on Kate Marker Interiors.  As I’m sure many of you know, raising a toddler adds serious chaos to your life, both mentally and physically.  The constant picking up of toys on top of being there 24/7 to tend to your little one’s beck and call can be draining.  While there are many moments of joy to fill you back up, you also need an environment that decompresses, and for me nothing does that like a soothing, clean and serene space.  I think Kate Marker’s interiors do just that.

Having a sleek and functional entryway helps you leave the day’s stresses at the door and helps prevent it when you’re trying to leave for the day! I LOVE the built-n cupboards and drawers

As an order and organization junkie these bookshelves are such a sigh of relief.  I love the overhead lighting via the gold sconces too.  Using the shelves as a sort of gallery space for art is clever too!

Nothing like a crisp white bathroom

Peppering you house with meaningful vignettes is a beautiful way to decorate.

Normally I don’t go for monochrome spaces but this dusty blue is so beautiful

There is a soothing Shaker quality to this hall

An intimate and light-filled seating area in the bedroom is a happy refuge

Ali Cayne’s light-filled family friendly NYC townhouse

I was pretty darn excited to run across this house tour on Domino magazine because I’ve seen and featured rooms from it individually in previous posts (her bathroom is one of my favorites)! Ali Cayne is a restauranteur who moved to a downtown Manhattan townhouse and took the opportunity to update it to be a warm and inviting family home for her and her five children.

Ali really made her subway tiles pop by using a dark grout (darker grout also hides stains better than white).

    What an oven!
Open shelves full of beautiful dishes looks like a chef’s delight!
I love the light gray cabinets with the brass cup pulls.
Not only would I be thrilled to have a dressing room, but a dressing room white built ins and herringbone hardwood floors?
The Greenwich Village townhouse has amazing bones, and the renovations really are a breath of fresh air.
I don’t usually love accent walls, but I love a dark accent wall in a master bedroom.
This dining room is heaven.  A white gallery wall, and beautiful dining table and chairs.
I like the glam version of a sawhorse desk.  The giant inspiration board is great too.
Ali’s workspace is also light filled and features built in bookshelves.
This is the bathroom I’ve posted before.  It is an all time favorite.

Light-filled rooms to brighten your Monday

    Beautiful rooms to inspire

We had quite a busy (though fun-filled) weekend so I’m feeling a bit lethargic this morning.  I needed a bit of eye-candy to perk me up and thought I’d share my best Pinterest finds with you.

A traditional dining room with a country twist.  The simple table and chairs tone down the ornate chandelier and mirror frame.

Nothing like a gorgeous antique piece or beautiful oriental rug to adorn your entryway.

A delicious clawfoot tub, ornate crown moulding, and those shutters!

Another beautiful entryway.  I think the round mirrors are really interesting and a nice change of pace from commonly-used rectangle mirrors.

Did you notice the bright white subway tile walk-in shower?  I didn’t at first. But WOW.  Looks amazing.

That gold chandelier is so elegant in it’s simplicity. I think there is a whole separate room for the shower too!

  • A bright Brooklyn home filled with light and airy layers

Fashion designer Ulla Johnson’s Brooklyn home tour

Ulla Johnson’s Brooklyn home is sure to inspire you to rethink the way you use textiles and texture. Similar to the garment’s that she designs, every piece in her home needs to be globally minded, comfortable, and chic.

White paint and neutral colored furnishings create a peaceful environment throughout the entire home.

I’m really crushing on the vintage Swiss midcentury leather and chrome chairs!

Johnson is well traveled and lived in various countries growing up with her archaeologist parents. Souvenirs abound everywhere, including on the shelves.  I love this bookcase because it doesn’t take itself too seriously!

Macrame curtains, muted pinks, and a basket full of stuffed animals make for a sweet little girl’s room.

Even her son’s room is decorated with artifacts from around the world.  I can’t get over how light-filled the spaces are.

The master bedroom follows the theme of serene by utilizing white paint and neutral textiles.

The fireplace in the master bedroom. Even the master artwork is calming.

Quietly stunning: Dining rooms with glowing repose

I’ve been having a huge dining room crush lately, and I think it’s because I don’t have one, and it’s not likely that our first home will have one either. These dining rooms also reflect the style I’ve been loving lately – not too shabby, not too chic, but a lovely mix of clean, sensible design with a touch or two of glamor.

This dining room is quiet and peaceful, but the pink sofa adds a little wink.

A sunny spot to eat breakfast is the best!

I want those chairs so bad!!! Anyone know of something similar thats affordable?

The white “leather” bench is actually faux leather vinyl – great for kids (or me!).  This owner recommends Grain de Cuir by Nobillis.

    what great light!

For the chair cushions, the owner actually had them upholstered with the wrong side of the fabric up, for a more muted effect.
