Balancing Bold and Neutral in the Bedroom

Life is a balancing act! Especially when you start sharing your bedroom with your significant other. Sometimes there’s a time to compromise, or find a happy balance. How do you find a happy balance between neutral and bold in the bedroom?
Neutral colors can be light or dark! First find out which one you each prefer. You can go bold with a neutral color by picking a darker shade, or added a pop of color.
Keep the neutral color scheme but go with a bold pattern! It could even be as simple as an accent wall.
Pastels and neutrals go hand in hand! Although pastels may not seem like a bold move, you might be surprised how much a little pastel can do!
Do you think you could find a happy balance between neutral and bold?

  • Chairs That Make A Statement

I appreciate a room that is well thought out. Even a great color scheme can get me excited to see more! Other times, I just want to see something that I’ll swoon over, like a statement piece that isn’t just for looks, but usable too. Check out these chairs that are definitely doing that:

Sophistication and elegance come to mind for me with these. They are the perfect pair, yet they look so comfortable at the same time!
You may just see vintage style when you look at this, but in it’s setting it’s a perfect fit that stands out at the same time. This chair becomes a talking piece!
Struggling with a simple color palette and what something a little bold? Grab a pattern and a bright color and this space becomes desirable!

    Wallpaper I Wouldn’t Mind Having

The trends of wallpaper come and go but there are some styles that I feel like stick around really well and I could imagine having in my own home:

If the pattern is busy, I’d say go with a neutral color way or only one wall.

Classic patterns, like the diamonds above or the stripes below, are a surefire and chic way to go.

Going with neutral colors or a simple print like stripes is a great choice for something that can last a a long time in a home and potentially resell just fine!

Prints that seem to stick around are another option. There are always those few that don’t seem to ever go out of style. Floral trellises are one example.

If you know you are going to be in the home you are in go with something you love! My suggestion would be to pick something you know you will still love years down the road, like a print you’ve always adored, since changing up wallpaper isn’t as easy.

  • Inspiring ways to use a neutral palette

Inspiring ways to use a neutral palette

It’s no secret I’m a fan of grays, whites, and other cool neutrals.  Using neutrals really allows me to experiment with different accent colors via pillows, throws, and accent colors.  That means if I end up not being able to live with a green or purple I loved last month, it’s not like I wasted a ton of money on a sofa I no longer like.  However, done right – with layering textures and patterns, neutrals can stand all on their own as a gorgeous palette.

Inspiration for mixing and matching bedding

I love mix and match bedding, and can’t wait to pick out the linens for our bed once our wedding is over and we have time to focus on decorating.

I love unexpected mixes like the leopard pillows with the ikat pillow.

If you doubt your ability to mix patterns, start off with one color in different patterns, and add one accent pillow in another color. A monochrome palette will be foolproof.

If you have an upholstered headboard in a non-neutral color, you will need to consider it when selecting your bedding.

New bedding and linens is probably one of the easier ways to make a big impact if you are looking for a change.

  • Ideas for using pattern in your decor (especially if you’re afraid of it)

Ideas for using pattern in your decor (especially if you’re afraid of it)

While I’m transitioning my house from winter to spring, I keep seeing all these fun prints I want to incorporate in my home decor. Here’s a few that have caught my eye:

I love to mix and match accent pillows and since these are the easiest and most budget friendly way to change up the colors in your home, they are on the top of my list.

A pattern in neutral colors like the checkers on the floor means you don’t have to be married to one color palette. You can swap out different accent colors through out the year.

Don’t be afraid to go bold! This rug is eye catching and I like that it stands out a little since rugs tend to hide behind the rest of the home decor.

I love the look of these chairs. Between the studs and pattern only being on the back side. It give sit a glamorous yet fun look to it.

The entryway is a great place to try a little pattern because there isn’t a lot of space to be overwhelmed.  It also creates impact right from the start since it’s usually the first area of your home someone sees.

  • Rugs Rugs Rugs

    Rugs Rugs Rugs

Keeping the focus on floors these days, I’m pretty excited to show off a favorite of mine today. Antique and vintage rugs are a great way to add a little pattern and eye candy to the floor!

If you aren’t sure of what type of rug to look for, Scandinavian rugs are great for pastel rooms. They tend to have lighter colors in them and the designs are beautiful!
Mixing and matching rugs are a great way to bring two spaces together. Using the same color options but getting different patterns or styles can help define a space but keep the natural flow of the room.

For those who love a lot of color and mixed patterns, using a rug with like colors can tie in a space. Moroccan rugs would be a great choice for this situation as they tend to have bright lively colors.

For those of you who love the simplicity and neutral colors, this is a great way to step out of your box and add a great pattern to the view! There are some amazing places that sell vintage rugs for great prices and they are great quality.
