    Considering the Open Concept Layout

An oldie but a goodie for you on this Thursday!
Now that hubby and I are not longer spending every spare moment wedding planning, we are finally thinking about improvements that we’d like to make to our home.  Our house it a 50s rambler, and while it doesn’t have the bones these amazing spaces do, we are still thinking about knocking down some walls to create a more open and modern space.
Has anyone here remodeled for a more open layout?  Were you happy with the results?

House Tour!  An 1850s  New York City townhouse!

Architect Ambler had grown out of his apartment when the 400 sq ft. studio next door came up for sale.  It seemed like fate so he bought it and worked to combine the two into a unified New York City townhouse perfect for displaying his collection of vintage and modern art and furnishings.  Combine that with subtle renovations in line with strict landmark district regulations, you end up with a beautiful classic modern contrast.

What attracted me most to this space is the beautiful arched window.  It acts as a frame out to the street.  In New York City you often have to be willing to welcome street life into your home as art through your windows!

So much natural light is a blessing on street level.  I love the modern furniture, like these black leather chairs, combined with classical elements like the arched windows.

The townhouse feels like a museum with all of the modern art and interesting furniture.

How beautiful are the antique mirror closet doors.new york city townhouse den

The den and the chandelier in the office are one of my favorite parts of the house.  The technique of leaving the top 12 inches of the wall unpainted really create an illusion of height.

The real showstopper in the townhouse are the gleaming herringbone hardwood floors.

  • Style the perfect bed for Fall

Style the perfect bed for Fall

Now that the temperatures are dropping (*tear), it means I’ve been pulling out heavier blankets for warmth during the cool nights.  I thought it would be a good time to dig up some inspiration for dressing your bed for fall.

Just because you’re piling on layers doesn’t meed your be can’t be tailored.  Go for crisp sheets and graphic patterns.

I like the mix of elegance from the velvet stools and headboard mixed with the preppier pattern and color of the pillows.

Folding over your flat sheet, topping it with a thin quilt, and then topping it with a warm duvet is a great way to have the warmth you need but ability to cool off a bit if you need to.

Good bones in this bedroom and bold graphic bedding is the perfect combination in this black and white bedroom.

Lots of pattern in pretty shades of blue make even this small bedroom welcoming.

Even a modern black and white bedroom can look cozy with high contrast bedding.

  • Fall Anthropologie that we love

    Fall Anthropologie that we love

Fall 2016 is about nature, layering textures, and pattern

Pink dining room chairs?  Don’t mind if I do!  And out that window?  That’s beautiful Idaho.

The new catalog features a bohemian mid-century modern fusion, which I like

While I like a lot of Anthropologie’s furniture, I’m just as excited to see the locations they shoot in – they always find places with amazing bones!

Wow that molding!  And the herringbone floors!

Anthorpologie is also really into florals and patterns in both there wallpapers and upholstery.  While I like it, I don’t know if I could live with it long term in my house…

    Yes, please.

Love the velvet pink sofa with the neutral textured rug.

This tapestry headboard is pretty amazing.

More from Idaho.  Whatever cabin or lodge they found to stage in looks absolutely beautiful.

What do you think of Anthropologie’s offerings for Fall?

All of our love to Paris

My thoughts have really been with Paris this week.  I’ve had the pleasure of visiting twice, and cannot wait to return.  Keep them in your hearts!

Here are some gorgeous spaces done in the way only Parisians can!

Super clean lines in the furnishings allow the amazing bones of this place to really shine.
