Chip and Joanna’s Fixer Upper Magnolia House

Fixer Upper’s B&B The Magnolia House

I’ve only caught a few episodes of Fixer Upper but the ones I saw I really liked. Then a photo of the Magnolia House caught my attention, and that’s what led me to discover that it’s a bed and breakfast owned by the couple.

Loving the shiplap – as we featured in a post last week!  The chandelier in the living room is a nice touch too.
Shiplap abounds!  And those teal cabinets! I really like them.
Iron canopy beds are so romantic.
I really love this space, which I imagine is the lobby.

  • Beautiful bedrooms in shades of gray

    Gray bedrooms

Today we are sharing two of our favorite things.  Beautiful bedrooms, and the color gray.  You’ll also notice in a lot of these pictures of bedrooms an accent color of pink being used.  Turns out that pink and gray make a beautiful color palette for the bedroom.  And no, we weren’t talking about that Shades of Gray in the bedroom!

Beautiful bedroom #1 – I would never think to combine cream, gray, and bright pink, but I love how fresh and warm this bedroom looks at the same time. I wouldn’t change a thing, and the upholstered headboard is very to the tufted headboard we have in our bedroom.

Beautiful bedroom #2. Wowza. I love this one.  The velvet headboard is so elegant.  The crisp white bedding is perfectly chic.  The floral sham is the perfect accent to keep the bedroom from being too sterile. The tufted bench is what we’ve been looking for for our bedroom.

Beautiful bedroom #3: This bedroom has some great architectural details.  The chandelier over the bed makes for great impact lighting.  The bright pink in the floral curtains takes it a bit over the top for me, but over all I like this space.

Beautiful bedroom #4:  This gray bedroom, or neutral bedroom, is so serene.  The white bedding and painted ceiling mix casual with luxe.

Beautiful bedroom #5: This French bedroom is all ease and elegance.  The chandelier and high ceilings are luxe, and the casual sheets and bedding are comfortable.  And how about those hardwood floors?

Beautiful bedroom #6:  This bedroom is sweet and comfortable.  And all about those decorative pillows. The white leather Moroccan pouf is a nice eclectic touch to an otherwise contemporary bedroom.

Beautiful bedroom #7:  This pink and gray bedroom is feminine and simple.  I love the decorative pillows, the picture ledge, and the accent wall.  It also has a mid century modern style too.

  • You have to see this hip grand Chicago townhouse

This townhouse really evokes an unusual blend of old world grandeur and a modern, hip lifestyle.

A plush comfy armchair in the dining room – love it.

Tiled barrel vault ceiling?  Amazing.  This kitchen really evokes kitchens of the past.

The red carpet on the stairs and black and white contrasting tiles adds so much drama to the foyer.  I love that chandelier too.

The master bedroom is full of drama and glamour.  I love the deco lighting, dark walls, and canopy bed.

You can’t go wrong with silk drapes either.

  • Buy the items you love and make them work in your existing decor!

Buy the items you love and make them work in your existing decor!

I’m always finding furnishings, light fixtures, etc. that I love, but I worry about reconciling them to my existing decor.  Lately though, after a few impulse buys that have tied in beautifully in my space, I’ve realized that if you truly love a piece enough, you can make it work in your existing decor.

    Here are some examples below:

    You love…

    Boldy colored or painted furniture

Make it the star, or one of many.  Colorful furniture is going to get attention.  So either put it in the spotlight by surrounding it with more muted accessories and furnishings, or make it look like it fits in with the rest by surrounding it with other colored furnishings and accessories.

    Above, it’s the star.

    Impact lighting

    Get it here

    Use it in the bedroom.

In a dining room, you have to worry too much about how the chandelier or light fixture in question will fit in with already existing lighting and the dining room table and chairs.  In the bedroom you double the impact by A. Having an amazing light fixture, and B. Having an amazing light fixture hanging above your bed!

    You love…

    Midcentury modern

Don’t make your house look like the set of Mad Men.  As cool as it may be, you will get tired of seeing a whole room of furniture in the same period style.  The good news is that if you pick pieces in a neutral color or finish, like these amazing chairs (white and metal), you can integrate them successfully with your existing furniture.

Also, if you get something that you can buy in a set, ie, dining chairs, lamps, end tables, it will add to the “intention” of mixing mid century modern with your existing decor.

Is there a piece that you just had to have?  How did you make it work in your existing decor?

  • New Year – New Furniture

    New Year – New Furniture

Well, we can dream right?  I don’t know why I peruse flash sale sites for new furniture, because it only teases me.  I’m in love with our new open layout great room, but the renovation left little room for furnishings, and we pretty much have all we need anyway…

    It’s harmless to look, right?

    Loving nailhead trim these days.

  • A Beautiful Mix of Classic and Contemporary

A Beautiful Mix of Classic and Contemporary

At first thought, mixing a classic style with contemporary would not be my first choice. This pictures prove me wrong! There is a sort of elegance in it that stuns me.
It really brings out a luxurious side to decor. I am really impressed with the mixture of these two styles. Are you?
  • Dusting Off The Dining Room Table

As the cooler weather is settling in and fall brings us indoors, I can’t help but think of all the holiday events and dinner parties that are coming soon! In preparation I am dusting off the dining room table and finding some inspiration to make it shine this year:

Keep in mind that changing out your dining room doesn’t have to be a pricey event. A few candles, a cheap centerpiece, and maybe a few stunning linen chair covers can really change the ambiance of a room.
Another option might be some fresh flowers and throw pillows to add a little color and life!
Even just changing out the lighting can really make a room stand out. This chandelier screams for attention!
    Have some fun with it!
  • Gold Accents and Accessories

I love the look of luxury and a touch of gold can really give you feeling if used in the right way. I love a hint of gold furniture or some great glamorous throw pillows. Here’s a little inspiration if you are considering adding gold to your color scheme:

    Chic and beautiful living spaces

In my house, the living room is the center of our house. Not only is it the first room you see when you walk in, it’s the place where we spend the most time.  When our wedding is over and we have our lives back – the living room is second on my makeover list after my office.

LOVE the wall treatment in this space.  The crown molding and chandeliers mixed with the modern decor is really cool too.

Gold is very trendy right now, but I have to admit I’m smitten!
