    Things to love about fall

There are so many things to love about fall! It always seems to come right when we have had enough of the blazing hot weather. It’s like a gentle reminder that the world is always changing but also that each day brings something new and amazing.
Branding - I want the site to feel comfortable, not stiff or *too* professional. It has to be fun & homey.:
I love snuggling up in blankets, the neutral colors mixed in with the bright oranges, reds, and yellows.

  • Away from Home Office

    Away from Home Office

Since I work from home, I tend to love posting pictures of inspiration for home offices. A few of my friends have rented space or work in a shared office setting and were struggling with ideas to make it feel more like home!
Hang a piece of gridded wire above your desk to keep pictures and inspiration visible.:

So what’s my advice for making it feel more like home? Find great additions that aren’t permanent that create the ambiance of home. Pictures and desk accessories are an easy budget friendly addition.
    Estacoes de trabalho fantasticos:
If you can add some plants and a couch. Bring home to you! An area rug, a lamp, pretty much anything can make you feel more at home.
Think outside the box! Get a desk that suits you instead of just using something more traditional or what the office already has. Bringing small pieces of furniture of your own for shelving, storage, or just simply decoration can make it unique to you.
Work it Out: Using Feng Shui in the Office Because we spend so many hours at the office, it’s important to incorporate feng shui health tips (not just productivity tips) into the office layout and décor. Here are some other ideas to complete your successful feng shui office space.:

If you are bound to what’s available, get away from the wall! Put your desk in the center of the room so you don’t feel like you are boxed in.
Make it inviting! Add some curtains, a blanket, a throw pillow! Anything to give the room some comfort and charm.
What would you do if you had your own office space away from home?
  • Filling in Spaces

    Filling in Spaces

When decorating a home, sometimes there’s a wall that just stumps you. It’s either an awkward size, a really large wall, a corner, or just a space you’d like to give a little more character. Either way, there are a few tricks I use to fill up a space that needs some love:

You can never go wrong with a large wall print, a plant, and a console. Extra storage and something pretty to look at it are my first attempt at filling an empty wall.

Corner’s can be more difficult! A collage of pictures is a great idea, a ladder with blankets, a corner table with a plant, or maybe even a beautiful basket could be a great solution to a corner problem.
For an entry way, I love a bench seat where you can sit down and take off your shoes, and there are some great ways to fill up a wall with DIY wall art that won’t break the bank!
I love the look of shelving as a wall filler on your way or in a kitchen. Using things you already have around the house and fresh flowers is a great filler.

  • Easy outdoor upgrade

    Easy outdoor upgrade

Outdoor space can be tricky when it comes to design. In most cases, to upgrade your exterior space can be quite a costly adventure. There’s one that I always keep in mind when being budget conscious and that’s a pergola!
They aren’t too expensive, they are easy to DIY, and they can add so much more to your outdoor space.
They create a great space for some partial shade, and some privacy if you’d like it!
You can dress them up or keep them simple but making them look stunning is not difficult!
Making it an addition to a preexisting deck our outdoor space really makes your usable outdoor space double!

  • A Little Luxury Goes A Long Way

A Little Luxury Goes A Long Way

Taking a room to the next level of luxury isn’t all about high priced items. It’s about making it stand out from the rest and feel glamorous.
Highlighting the great points of your room are key. These lights really stand out and make you look at the height of the room. It helps that they are gorgeous as well.
Although this room looks huge, it’s deceiving. The way it’s painted features the height and the view takes away from the fact that this is an average room size.
Be smart about the materials you choose. Great tile work does not have to be costly. A cheaper version of it can still look like a million bucks.
Looking to take your office up the next notch? Clear out all the clutter and keep it organized. A clean office looks more expensive and taken care of. A fun chandelier wouldn’t hurt either.
Updating a kitchen but don’t have teh budget for all the bells and whistles? Concentrate on the things you’ll notice the most. Cabinetry and counter top! The rest will be fine.
What would you do to make your room more luxurious looking?

  • The Art of Buying Original Art

The Art of Buying Original Art

Buying art can be a little more complicated than just falling in love with a piece and hanging it up! You may find that when you bring home that “gotta have it” piece that it doesn’t fit in the space you want it in or it isn’t great standing on it’s own.
Here are a few hints to help with the buying process:

    via houzz

If you can, visualize it before you buy it. Go shopping knowing what size wall you are trying to fill so you can get a feel for what size of piece of art you are looking for. Pick out a few colors that you know will work great in the room and if you have a specific color you are looking for bring an item that matches it so you can tie it all together.

    Add Color with Art

    via bhg

Buy local to support your local artists! Not only does this give the art you bring into your home a story worth telling but you are supporting your neighbors. It will give you another reason to love it!

    via apartmenttherapy

Remove the anxiety around pricing and realize that you can find a great, good size piece of art for under $1,000 but even for $100. If you have a budget you need to stick to then keeping within that price is important but finding that perfect piece could be as simple as $50 and be priceless to you.

    via housebeautiful

Use the tools you have! Now with the power of mobility we can take a picture of our space and bring it with us art shopping or take a picture of that piece and bring the picture home to see it works where you want it (not all places will allow that). There are also places online that will take a photo of you room and place pieces of art in it to see if it’s a perfect match.

    via hometalk

There is no better way to make your own than an original piece of art that provides originality and a great story when hosting your friends. If you are looking for ideas of places to shop there’s an awesome place called Vango that makes this process so much easier! When in doubt, remember the golden rule: buy what you like

  • Small Spaces: Defining a space

    Small Spaces: Defining a space

More and more people are choosing smaller spaces to call home. They tend to be more efficient and don’t take as much time to clean ( a big perk for me), and are easier to maintain. Sometimes it’s hard to define a certain area or space as it’s own but all of my tiny NYC apartments have allowed me to try out almost all of these ideas. Here are some of my favorites.

400 square foot area with a Bedroom Nook designed by Fitzhugh Karol for a tiny Brooklyn, NY apartment. This is similar to the bedroom in the closet pinned earlier. It is airy and bright and using a captain's bed with drawers for storage.
For me, feeling like I had a little privacy while sleeping was crucial. Creating a foot board that creates some privacy for the bed is a great way to define the bedroom space. I also love the entryway table they used against to the foot board to create a real wall look.
Several things I like: a) Curtain as a room divider b) Curtain isn't completely drawn so you can still see a bit of the bed, but still have some privacy c) dining/social area so close to the bed = great use of a small space d) rug under the table & chairs also defines the two spaces design is mine : isn't it lovely?: INTERIOR INSPIRATION : AT HOME IN NYC.
Looking for a not so permanent solution? A rod with a curtain can do the trick. You can keep it open and airy or close it off for privacy. A sheer or semi-sheer curtain is important to help filter light through though.
On the topic of light, it’s important to choose window treatments that will allow for maximum light to come through.  Make sure when you open the curtains you’ll be able to pull them completely to the edges of the windows.  Also make sure you have proper ambient lighting to prevent dark shadows which will make the room seem smaller.
great way to break up a space
A very budget friendly solution is to purchase an open bookshelf like the one above to use as a wall space. The fact that it doubles as storage is really important since small spaces tend to lack storage space. This is one of my favorite tips and I’ve used it in the past.  You can find similar, inexpensive modular shelving at Ikea.  Mine has held up well over the years.

Consider raising up a space! This creates a ton of storage space and puts one part of your space above the rest. This is a great solution if there’s not enough square footage to create storage otherwise.
